I think we should get back to the practice of cutting off a thief’s hand.

yup, and so long as you use the
computer, burner, and blank CD's legally, you're completely within your rights. you're just using them illegally, that's all. but i've made my point and my husband is home from work and i think i'm going to head downstairs and spend some time with my family.

actually, as far as i know, borrowing and burning cd's is still legal. or what else are we supposed to do with cd BURNERS? its legal to buy a cd burner, so its gotta still be legal to USE them, right?

You can legally copy a CD you purchased as a back-up or to use in your car or wherever. You can back-up data or take a file home from work. There are plenty of legal uses for them. Stealing is not one of them.

Honestly no. I regularly drive over the speed limit and don't eat five servings of fruits and vegatables daily though, if that makes you feel any better.

You have missed the point of my original post. Basically, you're thinking like Ed Meese did a few years back, when he wanted to go after internet porn, only to realize that the internet was designed to withstand W W III, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it (even the all-powerful US government). Peer-to-peer sharing will go on its practice. It will increase in its use. It is here to stay.

By "playing the heavy" (the RIAA's own description of their most recent tactics), the RIAA has set themselves up as a target for every hacker, would-be hacker, and hacker wannabe on the planet.

The RIAA is as good as dead. Good riddance.

As for the previous post about G/P and marketing, the numbers I quoted INCLUDED such expenditures. Like I said, member companies of the RIAA (but NOT the artists they "represent") enjoy PHENOMENAL profit margins that even the oil industry would envy.
