I'm off to the store to pick up a 12 pack and then paint the dinning room. I wonder how it will turn out? I can see the wife coming home from her night out to find me passed out in the middle of the floor with no pants on covered in paint and none of the walls painted!

I'll be back in a few hours...we'll have some fun!

I was actually thinking about this today and was going to email him Thur about it. The hike along the side creek is doable with crutches. Once you hit Quillen and turn upstream there are places where all 4's are needed to get around. That leaves going up stream in the water. I was going to suggest some type of waterproof wrap on your feet and legs. This would be for maybe 2 different stretches of 100 yards. It's about a 10 minutes normal hike upstream to the actual campsite. On my hike in I was really rushing and had left my hiking shoes at home. I was hiking in Merrell type shoes and I fell at least half a dozen times. This was on the edge of the stream. The water is shallow though.

aren't you kinda injured...or have a prob that will be aggrevated by hiking...i would think he's just looking out for you....1 mile an hour sounds like a serious prob to me

Just How Far Are You Going With Your Disability?
I doubt if chili was trying to get rid of you for the trip. "You don't have to go." sounds to me like he was just trying to let you let yourself to opt out if you had any doubt on going.

Sounds to me like he was simply looking out for your best interest.

No kidding. Here is someone who can't even get up to pee without pain. She isn't supposed to walk an inch without crutches. She can't sleep all night without discomfort. The few times we have been out somewhere and she had to move along on crutches, she has to stop every 100 feet to rest because using the crutches makes her more tired.

Yes, my advice is she doesn't need to go and I don't think she should.

Yes, divinity, needs and wants are separate.

Furthermore, this isn't hardly the forum for this and thus, these are my last public words on the subject.

Cottonsocks, if you have hopes of getting back on the trail again some day, listen very closely:

If you keep aggravating that injury, you are going to get yourself permanently disabled and spend the rest of your life a miserable wretch with a thousand and one regrets.

Your one and only job at this point is to follow the doctor's orders faithfully and religiously, realizing that doing so is your only ticket to get back on the trail.

I know exactly how you feel. I was laid up in the fall of 2002 with a broken leg. Took forever to get back on the trail, and when I finally did I had to monitor my condition to keep from aggravating the leg.

Bottom line: it takes what it takes.

So quit trying to force the issue and get yourself onto the road to recovery.

I wish you well, but you have to do what needs to be done, and that trail does not go through Sipsey at this particular time.

Ditto to what Geobeet said; good words, oh great newspaper dude!

We all want you well and back on the trail, Cottonsocks. I mean, *WE* still have our promised "catfight" to get all the men worked up over. :-)

Even though it's gonna kill ya -- I know, cuz it would kill me, too, and everyone on here -- do what the doc says. Sipsey sounds rugged and beautiful, the key word being rugged.

Try to get outside to the ability that you can. Maybe that means a bunch of car camping trips?

And wasn't there talk of a swimming pool providing good therapy? You can't beat that>> a suntan, plus your personal cabana boy Chili getting you margaritas. Si, Senorita!!! LOL! ;-)

cottonsocks, you had better get yourself well instead of worrying about a hike you have no business doing right now. There will be plenty other Sipsey trips when you get well.

Chili would rather have you on the hike than not. He is just concerned about your well being and you know it.

Get well and come back strong. I want to hike with you again. I don't want to see you laid up in a bed or be on crutches forever.

Hey Cotton! Stick around! When I was laid up this was a great place to hike vicariously... Let somebody ELSE lug all that junk up and down those hills! LOL I'd sit here with a cool beer reading and chuckling... and dreaming about those wondrous and far off places, like.... North Georgia, <GRIN>

Cottonsocks.
Not being privy to your private conversations but knowing what I know about Chili36. Let me break it down for you.

Chili doesn't want you to go hiking because he loves and cares for you. Don't read anything into it more than that. If you do, well IMHO, you would be wrong to do so.

Stick around and and enjoy the virtual campfire without the physical hike for now.

I hope y'all didn't take what I said wrong...I did not mean for her to not listen to her Drs advice.....

I meant for her to prove them wrong and hike AFTER she recovers........

Baby...you need to do what you have to do to recover right now....THAT is what is important right now....

lol...
never ends...Dawn...things like this happen all the time...its just your turn this time...this isn't the end of life, although you might feel it is.

You might feel that you don't deserve this, and you don't. But its what we say and do during these times that stands the person out amongst all the others. We all need to make sacrifice and choice along the way. your choice now is to let this deepen your mood and dispair or fight and remain yourself.

Leaving TT is silly. What are you leaving for? cause you can't hike or back pack, so therefore you can't post on TT...I laugh at that philosophy. Look at 97% of the threads...they aren't about backpacking...only 3% are truely BP related. so, again, I caution you on your decision...is it sympathy your looking for...well you got it, in spades, is it understanding...you have that too. I'm sure we can all feel your pain and empathize with your position...but to abandon TT because you can't hike is rediculously funny.

and please, as I've stated before on other threads...leave personal home things off this forum...it don't belong here...if ya need to talk to someone...pick up the phone and make it private.

I'm saddened that we won't see you on the trail in the near future....BUT floating season is JUST around the corner...so heal thyself and get beyond this present condition, so that you can mobilate around a bit, and then we'll see about gettin ya back out into the woods...in the meantime...quit somkin...read some great books, listen to great music and be at ease...this is only a test...pass or fail...that is up to you...we are all here to cheer you on.

Sorry, But The Rules State...
Wow! You know what? If you don't or can't hike, it's against the rules and Terms Of Participation to read, post or even be in this forum. So, unfortunatly, it looks like you, Cottonsocks, will have to leave anyway.

Sorry, but it's the rules.
