Yes, there is something to be learned here
Today I used Sassafrass's photo of Isle Royale shelter graffitti from the "Sweet 16 Expedition" as the starting point for a lesson on self concept and self esteem in my interpersonal communication class. It was a very vivid example to offer my students about self reflection and meeting challenges.

And it was fun to bring up TT and then the photo link through the classroom computer and project it about five feet across for everyone to read.

My thanks to Sass for helping me with my classroom media resources.

Had me worried there, Pekka. It's been an emotional day on TT.

No, but maybe I'll refer it to the Outdoor Adventure program coordinator.

I took a class in interpersonal communication many moons ago. It was quite enjoyable... taught by a lady in the Drama Dept. for some reason, <G>. I still use the active listening methods 20 years later.

I must confess, when I saw the title of this thread it reminded me of this quote:

"Whatever was required to be done, the Circumlocution Office was beforehand with all the public departments in the art of perceiving HOW NOT TO DO IT."

Charles Dickens
Little Dorrit. Book ii. Chap x.

(and are we about to be inundated with a deluge of Backpacking Coeds? Please say 'Yes,' LOL)

We should all try to incorporate TT into our jobs.

Cool Pekka.

Does it fit under the category of "academic freedom"?

Pathman, I have pretty free rein in the classroom -- yes, academic freedom does exist within a framework. As the discussion progressed, students even brought up what in someone's self-concept would bring a person to be a suicide bomber -- a somber, but telling moment for this date. And I have to say, that part of the discussion was handled very maturely by the students who commented -- no jingoism or bigotry, they actually applied the concepts we've been studying about the cultural and social influences on self-conceptualization.

On a lighter note, perhaps I can pull in the IR encounter with Ranger Fish when we get to frustration and conflict resolution.
