just regular brandy

don't recall all the measurements from memory, but it's like this:

water
sugar
black tea
frozen orange juice
frozen lemonade
bottle of brandy

boil it all and then freeze (as much as it will freeze)
scoop some into a glass and add some sour mix (or any soda you like except for cola) and enjoy. many times.

So I got this bottle of Crown Royal for christmas. I haven't tried it yet but I'm thinking I'll not be too impressed with it. I got a bottle of Apple Pucker so I'm gonna make me some Washington Apples for new years and see how that is.

I wouldn't really say Crown Royal is a manly drink. Besides, I've never been one to base my machismo on what I drink. I drink scotch, bourbon and Irish whiskey neat but that doesn't make me a man.

I'm now drinking milk with the candy.

I have a serious problem to solve.

1. Should I go to GSMNP, walk in circles in the cold and drink coffee in the fast food places? Then I can return and brag about how the cold fails to bother healthy men like me. Previously, I have been to Mt. leConte for a Christmas Eve Night. It was cold and windy.

2. Should I continue with my original plan and go to the Floida Everglades? I've been there twice previously for New Year's Eve.

3. Or should I just go 100 miles to Ocala Nat. Forest? It would be easier on my wallet to stay closer to home.

I figure to be gone for about 11 days (10 nights).

I will be in NY!
mapleleaf - I'm planning to hike the Finger Lakes Trail in NY. My plan is to start early in the Spring and do the 563 miles at 5 miles per day. Then in mid August I'll return to Florida to get back in the swim. Then, the second weekend in September I would like to swim across Provincetown Harbor at the end of Cape Cod in the 21st annual charity swim. In route I hope to visit with you, your husband and family.

Avoiding hangover requires a strategy

ASHEVILLE — The one surefire way to avoid a hangover is not to drink at all.

But if your New Year’s Eve plans do involve imbibing, there are ways to avoid — or at least mitigate — that queasy stomach and splitting headache as the New Year dawns.

Some tricks are pretty basic, like drinking plenty of water in between alcoholic drinks and before bed to avoid dehydration. The water will hydrate the body and give it more time to process the toxins in alcohol.

It’s essential to eat before and during the party hours, preferably starchy carbohydrates like bread and pasta that will slow absorption of alcohol.

“Eat vitamin B-rich and fiber-rich foods,’’ said Melissa Fryar, health and beauty care manager at the French Broad Food Co-op downtown. “Brown rice, oatmeal, anything with a lot of fiber will soak up some of the alcohol. Also, crackers and honey at bedtime or the next morning. Honey is rich in B vitamins, and the fructose helps burn the alcohol.â€

When the party’s over and it’s bedtime, consider another trick or two.

“Alcohol is quite toxic at high levels, so take buffered vitamin C before you drink, before you go to bed and the next morning,’’ local nutritionist Elizabeth Pavka said. “It’s buffered, so it’s gentle on the stomach, and it’s an antioxidant.â€

You can also take aspirin or ibuprofen with a full glass of water before going to bed to decrease the severity of a headache, but avoid acetaminophen, according to WebMD.com. Do the same thing the next morning if you awake with a headache, along with a multivitamin or an electrolyte replacer such as Emergen-C or Gatorade.
