Hey Sacramento - time for a drink!

“I've missed all the happy hours because I was (GASP!) backpacking! BUT...I was just introduced to another couple Sac area bp'ers through other boards, so I'm thinkin' we need to schedule another get-together so everyone can meet everyone.

Davis Sudwerks OK? What day(s) of the week are best for all?

“That time of year again? OK! Weekends are best for me. Sunday would be great if we can find a great big TV/sports bar. I gotta have my football. I'm busy the next two Sundays though.”

“Hey, do either of you guys know if Madison Bear Garden is still in operation in Chico??? That was a GREAT place to hang.”

“I think I can make that! Gives me an excuse to go to REI. Hey, REI is having their annual garage sale (used/returned gear)! Still looking for a lightweight afordable tent. Yeah, I've been reading the reviews just haven't got out to one of the outfitters in a while.”

“pepperDog checking in. I've been around but not doing much posting these days. Catching a drink sounds fun - I also like the idea of hiking on Saturday and drinking on Sunday. We could do a little backpacking Saturday night and come out in time to meet the non-hikers on Sunday. Any ideas?”

“I'd love to, but my work schedule prevents it. I'm off Sunday through Wednesday.

I'd take the day off, but it's near the end of the month that we do Capitation, which is my area.”

“Which trailhead are you contemplating going in on? The Desolation sounds great, and it would be cool to meet up with you again. I doubt that I could make the beer on Sunday, but on Friday I could adjust my schedule around and make it work.

“I couldn't get Friday off but I could maybe camp at the trailhead Friday night and hike up to meet people on Saturday and spend the night Saturday night. Where are you thinking of going? The Chevy's thing sound perfect. I think they have TVs so Rockman could watch football. It would be a blast to meet some more trailtalkers and remind people that I do more than just meet people in bars!”

“Been exchanging emails with Tahoe, so at least one other BP'er interested in maybe meeting up Friday nite, 9/26, hiking on Sat., returning on Sunday in time to drink in the afternoon.

Who else is interested? Maybe enter Desolation from East side around one of the Lake Tahoe trailheads, come out at Echo Lake or somewhere on West side.

Or... if y'all want to do a little fishing, maybe enter & exit Eagle Falls or somewhee over there, hike in to Velma Lakes, Dick's Lake or Susie Lake for some trout fishing, & then just loop back out west side. A number of trailheads over there, we could car-jockey on Fri nite, camp at Sugar Pines Pt or somewhee so as to get on the trail early Sat.

“I'm gonna try and make this work, at least for the Sunday gathering. I want to make the Friday trip as well, but I havent been home much in the last 5/6 weeks...too many play trips between my 10 days. I leave tomorrow for 10 days, I will check in on the 24th.”

“wanderer - it is a possibility. I would have to bail on a friend's party Friday night and I have to work till 4 so I might prefer to stay home Friday night and drive up early on Saturday. “I haven't met most of you, but I've been hanging around TT for awhile and met Rockman, Geologyguy and jvz on the Northern Yosemite loop and some others on the Sierrapalooza.

Landscaper and I and at least two other people will be in Desolation at Island Lake Fri - Sun on Sept 26 - 28 AND Oct 10 - 12. We are hiking out of Wrights Lake to Island Lake (never been there before) and then will day hike Sat, maybe summitting Little Pyramid, the unnamed triangle on the topo north of Island.

I'd love to get to know some more of you.”

What do you think, guys - how about Desolation Island lake to meet with wannabp? It would be nice to be a little closer to Sacto so we can get to Chevy's before the others are too drunk.”

“Trying to figure out how to make this all work.

Tahoe is coming from Reno, so it would be easiest for him to enter over on the West side of Desolation, may be Eagle Falls,, Fallen Leaf Lake, etc., whereas I'm coming from the East (Sacramento) so if I'm going to hook up with him I either drive over to west side (which I don't mind doing), or, enter the Wilderness on the East side, meet him somewhere 1/2 way, then hike back out in time to DRINK. So....

Thinking about different scenario's:

1. If I leave my car somewhere along Rte 50 on Friday, can I hitch a ride with one of you from Wrights Lake TH down to Rte. 50 to pick my car up on Sunday A.M.? This would be assuming that Tahoe picks me up & we enter somewhere together & then split up & head separate directions sometime so that e goes home & I head to Wright's Lake.

2. WannaBP, when are you headed to Wright's Lake? Can I possibly hitch a ride up with you? When are you planning on coming back? Maybe I'll head up Rockbound Trail and meet Tahoe somewhere down in the valley, Clyde or Aloha lakes, then hike back out.

3. Pepper-- when are YOU headed up? Can I possibly catch a ride with you up, or back on Sunday A.M.?

“I am having big problems with a tendon in my left ankle. My doc says I shouldn't do anything too strenuous until the physical therapy starts to reduce the swelling and my orthotics come in. I am thinking that a 3-4 mile backpack wouldn't be too strenuous, right? I'm sure my doctor would say that I shouldn't backpack at all. So if anyone wants a wimpy hike with me, give me the word.”

“Hey! I cant make it hiking, I work weekends. However I can make the drinking! Just let me know the time and date you'll decide.”

“Wanderer - I will probably go up early Saturday morning. I'm sure we can work out some kind of carpool but I don't particularly want to go all the way around to Lake Tahoe. I would prefer somewhere part way up either 50 or 80.”

“Wanderer, we're going up early Friday morning and out after breakfast Sunday morning. Also, my friend, Theresa, lives in the Sacto area and will be coming, either riding with us or driving with some other friends. I'm sure we can work out a ride for you either both ways or back to your car on Sunday.

Pepper, I think this would be the perfect not-to-strenuos hike,not that I've ever done it, but it's 3.3 miles and 1200 foot elevation gain. I'd love to meet you.”

“After a little map research it looks like there is not a trail coming into Island Lake from the east side. The Wrights Lake trailhead is the best one for me.
Wanderer, what time do you think you will be arriving at the trailhead?”

“Still emailing back & forth with Tahoe, but I'd like to know that an option would be to catch up with you out of Sac Friday A.M., leave my car somewhere along Rte 50, and have you drop me off at the Wright's Lake TH. Would that be OK for you?

Just tentative, but I'm thinking of heading up the Rockbound Trail to Lake Schmidell, meeting Tahoe there, who would be coming across Velma Lakes Trail from Eagle Falls, then on Sat / Sun we'd make our way thru the valley & out over Mt. Tallac.

What time do you plan on leaving Sacramento area on Friday?”
