Goals for 2004.View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 31 of 31 messages posted.
What do you want to do for 2004? “For me my goals are. To make as many new friends that I can while backpacking. To backpack over 800 miles. To have over 80 bag nights. To stop buying new gear...8) To see new places that I have never backpacked before. To do my part with the trails in the midwest by doing more work and giveing more money to hiking causes. And most of all being able to be me and calling the trail my home. 8)” 8:17:10 PM 9/12/03 “Mine is "the thing".” 8:18:43 PM 9/12/03 “See ya at Yellow River, Mike, for trail work! :-)” 8:20:07 PM 9/12/03 “Oh and to backpack with TT'ers that I have never backpacked with. Like you ARTEX!!!! 8)” 8:20:29 PM 9/12/03 “Ha Ha LIZS! 8p” 8:20:48 PM 9/12/03 “To backpack more miles than ever before. To hike with TT'ers that I haven't met yet and more with those that I have met. Do some trail work, I guess. Buy more new gear. (Do you like that tarp CMB? I think it would go good with my MicroZoid when it's raining.) Finish the NH 48. Put a bigger dent in the NE 100 list.” 8:41:44 PM 9/12/03 “The tarp is pimp! 8)” 8:46:10 PM 9/12/03 “my goal is to be like mike” 9:04:26 PM 9/12/03 “I don't really have goals, I have plans. Not much different really but in my mind I view goals as a "someday" kinda thing. Plans are a "I am going here and doing this" thing. But same difference I guess. So in 2004: Boundary waters canoe trek with my Scouts (NorthernTier for you BSA aware folks) Another week long Smokies trip (also Scouts) Canoe the Okeefenokee After hiking the HST this summer I'm kinda laying off the huge epic trips for a year but I would like to get Treebait and I up to Isle Royale soon. I owe her big time. Now the year after (2005) I'm thinking of Alaska or the Yukon.” 9:08:02 PM 9/12/03 8)   8)   8) “8) Mine is to get all those little emoticons out of my head! 8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)   8)  ” 9:53:34 PM 9/12/03 “HMP - I lost out on a trip not too long ago. You wanna go next year?” 10:16:56 PM 9/12/03 “hpm you're talkin my area, the boundary waters is in my back yard, isle royale is just down the road and a short ferry ride away. my goals... we'll see” 10:32:31 PM 9/12/03 “to spend more time on the trail and less time on Trail Talk.” 10:40:51 PM 9/12/03 hpm “If you can get the crew to Quetico, it's nicer, IMHO, and not as crowded as the Boundry Waters.” 10:41:33 PM 9/12/03 “Emoticons? I just though Mike was having a hard time counting... 7) 8) 9) Seemed like he had gotten stuck...” 10:43:28 PM 9/12/03 “Lighten my pack & Gear up even more. Finish up the AT sections in GA. & NC that I've not done yet. Make a BPing trip out west. Try to buy a Kayak by next Summer. Go back and hike places (locally) I've not not hiked in several years. Keep Rockin'! & Keep enjoying life.” 11:10:09 PM 9/12/03 “I wanna be like Walkindude Nuf said” 8:33:43 AM 9/13/03 “Some good ideas so far... I'm aiming to: Celebrate the birth of baby #2 Take a 4 night trip in the late summer early fall in the mountains somewhere (GA AT? - Maine AT? - Whites?) Do more dayhiking around Central Florida. Introduce my daughter to camping. Spend less $ and time on gear. Waste less time on the net.” 8:45:55 AM 9/13/03 “Some good ideas so far... I really want to drive and just take my time, stop in all the spots that I think are pretty. That's my biggest goal, hope I can do it. I really wonder how you guys all are doing it. It's not so easy for me just to get out and stay out for a week or so. Seams like a lot of you just go! I wish I could!” 9:49:30 AM 9/13/03 “I haven't really looked at 2004 yet. Right now I want to get through the rest of this year and see how my life is going to change esp with me getting a divorce. That is going to take some getting use to.” 12:31:34 PM 9/13/03 “HPM - one man's week in the Smokies is another man's epic adventure. :) Ewker - sorry to hear about that. I hope everything goes as well as it can.” 12:53:55 PM 9/13/03 Backpacking/hiking goals “Like CMB, I want: To see new places that I have never backpacked before, but 30 bag nights and 400 miles would be more realistic (and still tough) goals. Like Pepsi, I want to: To backpack more miles than ever before. To hike with TT'ers that I haven't met yet and more with those that I have met. Finish the NH 48 (I've got 8 left, and would have done one today as part of flags on the 48, but I got sick). Put a bigger dent in the NE 100 list (not a priority, but something to start thinking about when I'm done with the NH 48, although I'd probably start with the Vermont and ME 4,000 footers). Also: Do more winter hiking and backpacking. Hike the Vermont AT. Hike Abol Bridge to Katahdin (maybe the 100 mile wilderness again)” 1:38:45 PM 9/13/03 “Q- Sure, watcha got in mind? Stump- I've heard that Quetico was nicer. The BSA has an "Official" camp up there that has three parts. One in Ely, one in Quetico (Atikokan, Ontario) and one in Bisset, Manitoba. My intention was to hit the base in Ely and get a feel for the area and pick up as much info as possible to allow us to plan our own gigs in the future. Right now we have reservations fot the Ely base but definately thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it. Very true Coop, very true. It's been the worst year of my life in some respects but its been the best year of my life in many others. I'm concentrating on the best stuff.” 2:00:02 PM 9/13/03 “HMP - Not sure, really, only that I wanna/need to go since I missed out last year. Let's keep the idea out there and talk details soon. The MMer's over here just got back and they're full of great info and suggestions. It's early enough!” 2:07:01 PM 9/13/03 “Oh, Isle Royale. Sure. I'd love to. For some odd reason I was thinking you might be referring to the Alaska/Yukon thing.” 2:11:29 PM 9/13/03 HPM “I went out of Ely ONCE with a church group. Having to paddle Moose Lake in good weather is a pain (it's So-o-o-o long) in wind and rain it's not the least bit fun. It's also easy to lose track of all the canoes in your group on that lake because so many people go through Ely. (For a while I lost track of a canoe on a church trip and it was a bit frightening especially as they were the youngest in the group! So I suggest have some clothing, hat, kerchief that everyone in the group must wear on the water, so the group leaders have an easier time keeping track of everyone. (my $0.02) Two or three times I've gone out of Atikokan--used an outfitter. Staff were great and so was their knowledge of the wilderness.” 2:24:10 PM 9/13/03 “I want to meet more TT'ers! 8)” 3:10:32 PM 9/13/03 “Ewker, I thought you were single at the time we met in Nashville. Then I found out you're married. And now you're getting a divorce. I really must work on keeping up better. Sorry bout the divorce. Hope you're on the end wanting it. Whether or not that's the case, life goes on. (says lizs, 15 years later and still single after hers. LOL)” 3:16:42 PM 9/13/03 “Ewker - thats a tough one. Remember, its better to have loved and lost than to have spent your whole damned life with her.” 3:54:34 PM 9/13/03 “Well put Ped! 8\” 3:58:28 PM 9/13/03
