What is your set-up?View MessagesSo what is it? “I use the following. Bibler Bipod Bivy. Equnox 8x10 Sil Nilon Tarp. Weight around 3 pounds. 8)” 8:23:48 PM 9/12/03 “Ive been using A Peak1 Cobra and a Small, about 6x8' tarp I made from an old WAl-Mart special pup tent so I can sit outside the tent to cook and such. soon Im gonna order some sil-nylon and make a lighter version of the tarp. total weight about 4lbs 12 ozs Streamweaver” 8:35:49 PM 9/12/03 “Hilleberg Akto - Non bug season = 2 lbs bug season = 3.5 lbs.” 8:39:36 PM 9/12/03 “Black Diamond Megamid, 3.6 pounds.” 8:46:43 PM 9/12/03 “Homemade sil-nylon tent weight about 28 oz including stakes and rope. I use my trekking pole to hold it upright. It's 5'wide 7'long and about 55" high.” 8:48:37 PM 9/12/03 “you hang that 'Mid from a tree, bp?” 8:52:24 PM 9/12/03 “I think it is so cool to see what eveyone uses. Keep posting. 8)” 8:55:15 PM 9/12/03 “I’ve been using a peak 1 cobra about 4 lbs. I just picked a Trekker Tarp mesh insert to use under an 8x10 sil-nylon tarp, about 2.5 pounds.” 8:58:24 PM 9/12/03 “I have lots of shelters. All depends on the bugs. Q - The weight bacpac gives includes the pole. But, can be hung by a tree. I believe it's 3lbs w/out the pole. Pretty light for a 3-4 person shelter. It's my favorite shelter.” 9:01:43 PM 9/12/03 “Well lately it's been: Tarptent w/sewn in floor, 29oz or Tyvek tarp, 30oz Just got a silnylon 8X10 tarp, 15.40z” 9:02:27 PM 9/12/03 “I have hung it from a tree. I always carry the pole and eight stakes.” 9:06:15 PM 9/12/03 “Dang! I didn't think it was that light. That is good for the Big Top.” 9:07:00 PM 9/12/03 “Walrus Zoid for solo. Very Happy with it.” 9:10:18 PM 9/12/03 “SD Divine Lightning ~3” 9:17:15 PM 9/12/03 “The tent alone weighs 2 pounds 11 ounces. Pole is 11 ounces and stakes about 4 ounces. Lots of room, I take a space blanket for a ground cloth so add six ounces for that, but it can double as a tarp.” 9:33:55 PM 9/12/03 “yep, bp. That's a nice ditty. Good choice.” 10:17:53 PM 9/12/03 “I get in a Big trash bag then crawl under a tree or rock Weight = 1 oz.” 10:35:34 PM 9/12/03 “1 pound siltarp, 6 ounce ground cloth, four aluminum stakes at 1 ounce each, and my trekking poles.” 10:45:46 PM 9/12/03 “LOL @ WD!” 10:47:45 PM 9/12/03 “Stephenson's Warmlite 2R w/poles & Ti stakes = 2 lb 13 oz tyvek = 7 oz 2 person/4 season” 11:13:43 PM 9/12/03 “i live in a vaaaaaaaaaan down by the river” 11:44:16 PM 9/12/03 “when we take the baby along and when we don't 10x10 silnylon tarp, 18 ounces. stakes & cord add another 10 or so ounces.” 12:02:16 AM 9/13/03 “I could be considered either the lightest or the heaviest I guess. I haven't been able to afford a tent yet, so my rig is 0 oz. making me the lightest, lol. When I go overnight I use my brother's MH Thru Hiker, 5lb 12 oz. making me the heaviest. I'm looking at one of the Zoids, I wish the 1.5, but will probably have to be the 2 for the times my wife goes.” 1:44:08 AM 9/13/03 Everybody Is Surfin'....................Surfin USA “The 57" Ed Economy Surf Rider should be arriving w/in a few days. Soon I hope to get a pair of 180mm Randall R-II Speet Truckss and a set of 76mm 78a Gumballs.” 5:08:31 AM 9/13/03 “you sleep under that? lol” 7:15:39 AM 9/13/03 “I think he sleeps with it.” 7:20:44 AM 9/13/03 “I think he sleeps with it.” 7:22:12 AM 9/13/03 “My buddy bought me a SD Clip Flashlight last year and I really like it. Something like 4 lbs, 3 oz. I use it mustly only in winter or just when I get an itch to use it. The rest of the time it's the good old siltarp.” 8:28:16 AM 9/13/03 “unless it is winter, i use either a tarp or the shell from my akto for solo trips. both are very light, the akto shell is more weather proof. solo winter is the akto. very light, large vestibule (holds my pack and boots with mucho space left over), and enough space inside the tent for anything you want. i have an old ll bean double cross tent i use when my wife is with me. it weighs a little over 6 lbs. and has a HUGE vestibule. i have a mountain hardwear muir trail for two person winter, but have only used it one time (that was to test it in snow, alone). seems like i only need a one person shelter in the winter. this weighs somewhere in the vicintity of 6 lbs i think, can't really remeber. i have a slumberjack bivy that works great for bug protection if the weather is going to be clear. i have only used that twice. it has aluminum poles and it is very light. i have a hennesy hammock i have used twice and my boy uses it everytime he's with me. it is light also make an offer, they're all for sale.” 11:55:28 AM 9/13/03 “Clip Flashlight CD with the groundcloth that can be used with the fly, or with the tent. With bugs, I like the tent.” 11:57:26 AM 9/13/03 “MSR Zoid 1 (3lb6oz) or 8'x10' Campmor SilNy Tarp (23 oz. with stakes, guys & ground cloth).” 2:45:37 PM 9/13/03 “Eureka 1-person Zeus exo-skelton. Around 3.8 pounds. But, depending on weather, bad condensation problems. Single wall. Use SD Nightwatch 2-person if 2 people along... or when car camping.” 3:12:12 PM 9/13/03 “Car camping????????? OMG!!!!!!!!!! 8o” 3:17:59 PM 9/13/03 “HENNESSY HENNESSY HENNESSY HAMMOCK!!!!” 4:20:40 PM 9/13/03 Clark Jungle Hammock “I use the deluxe model with the XL fly when i go solo. Zeus 2exo when with company. Im saving up to get a nomad 2-4-2.” 4:36:46 PM 9/13/03 “13oz Sil Tarp with a 13oz OR bug Bivy in the Summer. Clip Flashlight in the Spring/Fall, I am thinking about a Bibler Bipod or Tripod for Colder/Extreme weather.” 4:09:28 PM 9/14/03 “Hey LtHiker Gforce has that OR Bug Bivy and I am thinking about getting it. I think it is real cool and I think it is by far the best one on the backpack market! 8)” 4:13:49 PM 9/14/03 “I like it! I love the fact that it acts as my ground cloth and I am total sealed from bugs and crawly things. At first I didn't trust the Hydroseal floor and used a poly ground cloth but now I don't bother with it and have had no problems. I now have my three season big 3 down to 1lb 5oz sleeping bag 1lb 14oz shelter and 2lb 8oz backpack total 4lbs 13oz! This is good down to 30*” 8:34:12 PM 9/14/03 “Dude the more I hear about this gear I want to but it!!!! I just might do that??? 8)” 9:46:50 PM 9/14/03 “I gave the OR Bug Bivy a try and it was just too tight for my size. I am 6'6" and 250lbs. It was long enough to fit into but I toss and turn so much that it just isn't condusive to a comfortable nights' sleep. Mike - if you groove on a bivy then this is sweet. It has the little support aboe your head so you can use it alone or with the tarp - I think it is a great three season set-up - just too restrictive for me.” 10:08:14 PM 9/14/03 ok, ok “eurika mountain pass 1XT. bout 4.5 lbs i think. it's perfect for me, even if it's a little heavy by gears snob standards.” 10:20:27 PM 9/14/03 “TOO HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8p” 10:22:41 PM 9/14/03 “SNOB!” 10:33:24 PM 9/14/03 “13oz Sil Tarp with a 13oz OR bug Bivy in the Summer, and probably the fall too. I want a 4 season tent” 10:55:01 PM 9/14/03 “well LAA TEE FREEKIN DAHHHH ! ! ! !” 11:03:35 PM 9/14/03 “CMB, I think strats tent weighs so much because its got NRA approved armor plating.” 11:09:21 PM 9/14/03 “naw.... i didn't even use the fly last time. it's just cuz it's a real tent, that you can sit up in and that has vestibules and that is freestanding and that doesn't cost 8 billion bucks....” 11:12:20 PM 9/14/03 “That's a nice tent Strat. My brother has one and we used in the BWCA for a week. It has double doors, double vestibules, enough room to sit up in and enough room to sleep two big bruisers. I'd call it closer to 5.5 pounds but what's a pound? The only real beef I had with it is the fiberglass poles but still, a great tent for a great price. 4.5 for a tent is reasonable.” 11:17:48 PM 9/14/03 “mine has aluminum poles and i was diggin them. all you do is flip them and every single joint snaps into place. it's a trip. i didn't take stakes so i saved a litle weight. i think you;re right though. prolly more l;ike 5 lbs.” 11:26:27 PM 9/14/03 “I have the Kelty Zen, The Bat Ray, The Eureka Gossamer and a silnylon tarp 8'x10' I take the Eureka to the Smokies, the Zen for the winter and the Bat Ray the rest of the time. I do need to try out the tarp sometime.” 11:27:12 PM 9/14/03
