and a Small, about 6x8' tarp I made from an old WAl-Mart special pup tent so I can sit outside the tent to cook and such. soon Im gonna order some sil-nylon and make a lighter version of the tarp.

Q - The weight bacpac gives includes the pole. But, can be hung by a tree. I believe it's 3lbs w/out the pole. Pretty light for a 3-4 person shelter.

It's my favorite shelter.”

Lots of room, I take a space blanket for a ground cloth so add six ounces for that, but it can double as a tarp.”

“I could be considered either the lightest or the heaviest I guess. I haven't been able to afford a tent yet, so my rig is 0 oz. making me the lightest, lol. When I go overnight I use my brother's MH Thru Hiker, 5lb 12 oz. making me the heaviest. I'm looking at one of the Zoids, I wish the 1.5, but will probably have to be the 2 for the times my wife goes.”

“My buddy bought me a SD Clip Flashlight last year and I really like it. Something like 4 lbs, 3 oz. I use it mustly only in winter or just when I get an itch to use it. The rest of the time it's the good old siltarp.”

“unless it is winter, i use either a tarp or the shell from my akto for solo trips. both are very light, the akto shell is more weather proof.

solo winter is the akto. very light, large vestibule (holds my pack and boots with mucho space left over), and enough space inside the tent for anything you want.

i have an old ll bean double cross tent i use when my wife is with me. it weighs a little over 6 lbs. and has a HUGE vestibule.

i have a mountain hardwear muir trail for two person winter, but have only used it one time (that was to test it in snow, alone). seems like i only need a one person shelter in the winter. this weighs somewhere in the vicintity of 6 lbs i think, can't really remeber.

i have a slumberjack bivy that works great for bug protection if the weather is going to be clear. i have only used that twice. it has aluminum poles and it is very light.

i have a hennesy hammock i have used twice and my boy uses it everytime he's with me. it is light also

“I like it! I love the fact that it acts as my ground cloth and I am total sealed from bugs and crawly things. At first I didn't trust the Hydroseal floor and used a poly ground cloth but now I don't bother with it and have had no problems.
I now have my three season big 3 down to 1lb 5oz sleeping bag 1lb 14oz shelter and 2lb 8oz backpack total 4lbs 13oz! This is good down to 30*”

“I gave the OR Bug Bivy a try and it was just too tight for my size. I am 6'6" and 250lbs. It was long enough to fit into but I toss and turn so much that it just isn't condusive to a comfortable nights' sleep. Mike - if you groove on a bivy then this is sweet. It has the little support aboe your head so you can use it alone or with the tarp - I think it is a great three season set-up - just too restrictive for me.”

“That's a nice tent Strat. My brother has one and we used in the BWCA for a week. It has double doors, double vestibules, enough room to sit up in and enough room to sleep two big bruisers. I'd call it closer to 5.5 pounds but what's a pound? The only real beef I had with it is the fiberglass poles but still, a great tent for a great price.

4.5 for a tent is reasonable.”

“mine has aluminum poles and i was diggin them. all you do is flip them and every single joint snaps into place. it's a trip. i didn't take stakes so i saved a litle weight. i think you;re right though. prolly more l;ike 5 lbs.”

“I have the Kelty Zen, The Bat Ray, The Eureka Gossamer and a silnylon tarp 8'x10'
I take the Eureka to the Smokies, the Zen for the winter and the Bat Ray the rest of the time. I do need to try out the tarp sometime.”
