It's been quite windy and the surfers are loving it.” 7:42:33 AM 9/17/03 “I bet there's a truant officer hanging out at the beach today. He'll be nabbing teachers along with the students!” 8:14:56 AM 9/17/03 “The latest track takes in across NC into Virginia. It will affect the GW and Mon NFs. Richmond will be hit with high winds. It looks like central and western Pa will get lots of rain. Philly may get off lightly, but they are forecasting 60 MPH gusts here, so I will have to take the plants in tonight. I have plenty of food, water, and supplies in case the power goes. Car camping has a payoff in storms. To those in the path of this thing, stay safe.” 8:22:42 AM 9/17/03 Geobeet “See my post about trip to Sylvania Wilderness (car-camping). Winds like to scare car-campers and their tents. BEST to all of you in the storm's path.” 8:32:19 AM 9/17/03 “Last I heard it was a very strong 2 almost 3 and had "organized" itself. Not showing any signs of lessening. From the weather.com site: "Isabel has been looking a bit healthier the past few hours as a more definitive eye than has been apparent for the past day or so has appeared. Whether this presages strengthening or not is open to question. At any rate, the hurricane is not weakening." ![]() Be careful.” 12:36:48 PM 9/17/03 National Hurricane Center track “ ”12:43:07 PM 9/17/03 “Looks like it's drawing a bead on Minnesott Beach..... IHwy - I'm about 200 ft above mean sea level on the side of a hill 140 miles inland from the Atlantic, upriver from Savannah, Georgia.” 6:11:01 PM 9/17/03 “What do you think...will streams have subsided enough by saturday in the GWNF for a trip? I'm deciding on a trip to Saint Mary's Wilderness, and crossing the river at 4' doesn't sound fun!” 8:23:55 PM 9/17/03 10:01:53 AM 9/18/03 “According to the National Hurricane Center, the eyewall is coming ashore on the OBX. It's a large eye.” 10:33:19 AM 9/18/03 “In N.C. the people who are riding out the storm were asked to use a waterproof marker to write their names on their arms for easier body identification. Just incase.” 10:42:45 AM 9/18/03 “That is for those who do not become shark snacks.” 10:49:44 AM 9/18/03 “Be safe people! Glad twiggy's group on the island will be OK!” 10:49:44 AM 9/18/03 “It really isn't safe to be unprepared: Woman, 70, hurls knife at husband who wouldn't prepare for hurricane By Will Greenlee Port St. Lucie News Port St. Lucie · With Hurricane Isabel churning in the west Atlantic on Sunday, a 70-year-old woman hurled a knife at her husband because he chose to watch football instead of preparing for the storm, police said Monday. Joan W. Harris faces a felony aggravated-battery charge in connection with the Sunday-afternoon incident, according to an arrest affidavit. "Apparently, the argument began while the husband was watching football, and the wife was insisting he make hurricane preparations for Hurricane Isabel," said police spokesman Officer Kacey Donnell. "He refused and said that he'd get to it at halftime." The couple could not be reached for comment, despite an attempt by phone and a visit to their home. The home is owned by Robert M. and Joan W. Harris, according to property records. When officers arrived Sunday, they discovered a "large pool" of blood on the bathroom floor, hack marks on bedroom doors and Harris' 71-year-old husband sitting on a bathroom sink with a "large laceration" to his right leg. Donnell said the husband had tried to "discuss the matter at more length with her" at halftime. Meanwhile, Harris grabbed an 8-inch butcher knife and chased her husband of 51 years into the bedroom, he said. She allegedly began "stabbing at the door before gaining entry and flinging the knife at him, catching him in the lower leg," Donnell said. Harris told police she argued with her spouse about hurricane preparations before she got the knife, which she was going to use to slice meatloaf. According to the police report, Harris told the 911 dispatcher that "she threw a knife at her husband, and now he is bleeding." Harris was being held Monday in the St. Lucie County jail.” 10:59:19 AM 9/18/03 “Another violent attack on a spouse, caused by football...” 11:02:05 AM 9/18/03 “hmmm?” 11:03:38 AM 9/18/03 Car Camping Question “I'm heading down to VaTech in Blacksburg For the weekend. Hopefully the rain will be over by Sat night. Can anybody reccommend a good place to car camp around Blacksburg?” 11:18:06 AM 9/18/03 “Man, the wind is picking up now. About 40 mph. Branches are falling on the roof, the oak trees are bending and the wind is howling. I think I will make the kids go downstairs. Should get to 80 mph overnight. My parents are in New Bern, NC, somewhat inland, but not much. I wish they had left the area. Be safe everyone. Talk to you tomorrow.” 11:18:08 AM 9/18/03 “You be safe, Creek! You are getting the brunt of this thing, it seems. I am on the 37th floor and the wind out my window is kicking up pretty good and the thing isn't even near here yet. I had forgot about him till I looked at the radar pic.” 11:59:51 AM 9/18/03 “The latest on the hurricane: Isabel is Category 2 with 100 mph winds. Eye crossed North Carolina's Outer Banks. Flooding is expected, and the hurricane may also trigger tornadoes. Storm has knocked out power to thousands. Airlines have canceled more than 1,500 flights. In Washington, D.C., federal and city government offices are closed.” 3:19:49 PM 9/18/03 Isabel Hits Land “ ”3:39:06 PM 9/18/03
