I think it will turn more to the East.
Twigeater's group on the island may be in for a pounding. Hope not!

As long as it goes ahead and comes ashore before the weekend after next, that'll be okay...lol...

See if you can find a big inverter, Violin. Then you can use your car as a generator.

They had reports on the news this morning from Sea Bright, NJ, bracing for the potential storm there. Funny thing about Sea Bright; whenever there is a storm like this brewing, it heads for Sea Bright. That town must be to hurricanes what trailer parks are to tornados...

I grew up in Lower Alabama. You think something like a hurricane is going to stop an afternoon of power drinking ?

I think not!

I have a Smokies trip weekend after next. On Friday we have 16 creek crossings on Eagle Creek. All of this water that's about to hit the area should make it fun.

hmm, never lived so close to the ocean... We in Columbia SC don't have to worry too much do we??

I sure hope it will miss most of the coast, doesn't look too good though.

when do you guys have a TT meeting in DC??

Gemini - You are far enough inland you shouldn't have much wind, just a lot of rain if it goes your way.

That’s a great idea bitpusher! Thanks.

Treebeard – My father used to dock his boat in Sea Bright. That town wouldn’t even exist if not for a 10’ high sea wall. It was breached in one storm and they had 40’ cabin cruisers floating down the main drag running into things.

My backyard is next to salt water so I track these storms pretty carefully.
The only thing I know for sure is the forecasts are useless more than a couple of days ahead.

If it rains like a "frog-strangler" in Baltimore the Inner Harbor will fill up with trash.

All the accumulated trash will be flushed from the streets and storm drains.

It makes for a lovely sight!

Weather Channel Analysis
Isabel powers west-northwestward
9/15/2003 9:10 A.M.
Buzz Bernard, Sr. Meteorologist, The Weather Channel

Isabel, still an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane, continues to track inexorably in the general direction of the U. S. Isabel, currently located about 500 miles east of Nassau, Bahamas, is churning toward the WNW but is forecast to shift to a more northwesterly track today. It remains likely that Isabel, as a major hurricane (winds in excess of 110 mph) and possibly still as a category 4 monster, will thunder ashore sometime Thursday along the Mid-Atlantic coast. No location from North Carolina to Long Island is off the hook. The exact location of Isabel's landfall will be very difficult to predict due to the extreme angle at which the storm will be approaching the coast. A very tiny change in the hurricane's direction of movement could shift its landfall by a hundred miles or more. Although Isabel is not a particularly large hurricane (its eye is quite large, however), its wind field will expand dramatically as it nears the U. S. and encounters a building high pressure area over the Northeast. Thus, even though the strongest winds will probably occur someplace along the Mid-Atlantic coast (wherever Isabel comes ashore), gales could pound beaches as far north as Maine. In the meantime, the first harbingers of Isabel's fury will be building surf along the Eastern Seaboard. No high surf warnings have yet been issued, but it shouldn't be long before some are. Today, large swells and dangerous surf are battering portions of the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands and the Greater and Lesser Antilles.

Dang it!

I do not want this fargin' storm to get in the way of my trip!!!

Also, after having survived Hurrican Andrew....I feel very bad for those who are going to get slammed by this monster.

My advice to any and all in its path - take it seriously - get your windows boarded, get lots of water, have batteries, have food for a week or more, have garbage canisters inside to collect water once it comes in through the roof (and to possibly pee in during the storm), have a safe spot in the house, have money - important documents - important medication and toilettries - extra change of cloths on your person in water proof bags/container, have on a pair of shoes that can handle walking through rubble, and don't forget about your pets(our birds got nose bleeds during Andrew!), and you might want to have rope(we had to tie the doors together because the pressure was trying to rip them open).

It's scary as hell but be smart and you can always rebuild.

Oh yeah, if they tell you to evacuate - listen and go - Andrew was a nightmare and we were not in the evacuation zone - it's scary as hell inside a storm of this magnatude: windows exploding/imploding, flooding, the machine gun sounds of flying debris, trees falling, etc....

Anyway - you get the picture - I'm not trying to sound screechy - have just experienced this before and want you all to be safe :)

It's just another typical September in the subtropics for us.

If it comes ashore as a class 5 everyone in it's path better worry. Ya gotta remember that Andrew wiped clean a few towns that were very much inland.

It did? Which ones?

I thought that all they suffered were a few tiles blow off the roof and some downed trees?

Hmmm...learn something new everyday...we didn't have power a long time and didn't really know what was going on in the rest of the world

The storm has been losing its punch the past few days. Although it could reintensify, I would doubt that happening. Still, a Cat IV storm is powerful.

Both tracks take it pretty much up the coast. As it moves northward it should continue to lose power.

Biggest threat would be rain. With the remnants of Henri this past weekend, the ground is soaked and there is flooding to the west of Philly.
