Too darn bad" Response: Actually that was an incredible "dirty politician" trick. He spent his money on ensuring that the stronger candidate (Riordan) from the OTHER party didn't win the nomination, because he was (justifiably) concerned that he couldn't win the governors seat against a strong candidate. So he made sure that a weaker candidate from the opposite party ran against him. What he was SUPPOSED to be doing is running for the Democratic Party nomination, but since they are so lock-step, that was unnecessary, so he spent his $$$ trashing Riordan, on behalf of the Repubs, and to great effect. Wanderer - there isn't a politician alive in either party who wouldn't have done the same thing. Let's see - no competition from his own party - heaps of money in his war chest - one member of the opposite party who could give him a run for his money and one who didn't stand a chance. It is a no-brainer.” 8:38:03 PM 9/15/03 “So that makes it OK?” 8:45:09 PM 9/15/03 Pepper “When will we, the public, demand some ethical behaviour from our elected officials? When will we stop asking "well there isn't a politician alive in either party who wouldn't have done the same thing", rather than, "Is this the ethical, morally correct thing to do?" Respond to that, please.” 8:48:16 PM 9/15/03 “California Dreamin', I think not......Nightmare I believe.........Hotel California” 8:57:06 PM 9/15/03 “You had your choice between the Unethical or the Unethical. And unethical is not a reason for a recall IMHO. When they put "none of the above" on the ballot then the winner would know he has to rethink his positions.” 11:23:52 PM 9/15/03 OH NO, NAVI IS RIGHT! “Hate to admit it, I get carried away with my idealism sometimes. Navi you're 100% correct, all the choices were bad ones. In the national election I like to think I voted fot "nobody" by voting in just about every category except President. Couldn't bring myself to cast a vote for anyone, for any reason. At the gov level, I thought anything would be better than Greyout, you could write in Mickey Mouse for goodness sakes.” 11:33:39 PM 9/15/03 “you're depressing me, guys. couldn't somebody run for office that i like? i don't even have to agree with their politics, provided they're not a Nazi, but to find an honest, respectable candidate? when McCain lost the primary last time around, i knew i'd cast a throwaway vote for president. and i did.” 11:36:49 PM 9/15/03 “"Oh mortal man, is there anything you can not be made to believe?" Adam Weishophf” 11:42:36 PM 9/15/03 “Okay - here's another one. "Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?" King Solomon” 11:45:30 PM 9/15/03 Yea Tarbuble! “McCain was the last politician I have wanted to vote for as well. I put character above idealogy. One of the reasons I have such a problem with Bush is the way he spent his $$ to trash McCain. I believe he knew he couldn't beat him by being honest, so took the low road. I will never support Bush because of the underhanded, slimy tactics he used against McCain, and I'm a Repub.” 11:46:48 PM 9/15/03 “i found a faithful man. and i married him lickety-split!” 11:49:34 PM 9/15/03 “Okay - yet another one. "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." Same dude.” 11:50:01 PM 9/15/03 “i wanted to put my trust in Bush, i really did. but it became painfully obvious, very quickly, that he's almost completely untrustworthy as a leader. i started the same way with Clinton. i reckon i'm in for a lifetime of disappointment.” 11:51:58 PM 9/15/03 “All men fail those they love. No exceptions. What is the purpose of a marriage covenant, if that weren't true?” 11:53:11 PM 9/15/03 “The thing with Davis is of no surprise. With McClintock, or Schwarzenegger, either. The gravity of error is less with McClintock. It's a successive approximation sort of thing. Towards the center, you work the Congress, then the Presidency, the Judiciary, Academia, then the Media. In that order.” 12:05:20 AM 9/16/03 “Justice, to grease the wheels of commmerce.” 12:09:09 AM 9/16/03 “The bottom line is, do you really want a guy who has run a state into the ground so bad that their deficit is worse than all other states combined? If you answered "yes" it seems blatently obviouse that you are putting your party lines before the welfare of your state. You would rather go down in flames with a democrat at the helm than take even the slightest chance your party might lose control in Cali. Please pick up your stupid sticker at the door on your way out.” 7:57:05 AM 9/16/03 “wanderer - darn good question. When are we going to demand honesty from our politicians? I have a feeling that we are a lot closer in ideology than you might think. I am a Democrat just because of lack of options. I rarely find someone I want to vote for. For years I have wanted the "none of the above" option to count for something. I am tired of being told that I "have" to vote for the lesser of two evils. My feeling about the recall is that we have a flawed election system that we kinda have to agree to accept. Just as I thought Gore should have gracefully accepted the flaws in the system that got Bush the presidency. For a sore loser to rally a bunch of non-voters into a costly election just sticks in my craw.” 10:14:22 AM 9/16/03 “For a sore loser to rally a bunch of non-voters into a costly election just sticks in my craw." Is that the weenie who dropped out, Issa?” 10:18:14 AM 9/16/03 “Yes, that would be the weenie. With tears in his eyes declaring that with Arnie running Californians now had a viable candidate.” 10:43:39 AM 9/16/03 “My best wishes to Arnie, or which ever ding-a-ling gets the job.” 10:51:07 AM 9/16/03 “Hearing Arnold's political commercials makes me think of him as some naive puppet who, if elected, will be manipulated by those behind the scenes. I think billionaire Warren Buffet is on Arnold's team of advisors. I'd be very wary of putting any faith in Arnold - he personally sounds politically clueless (although he manages to mouth centrist platitudes).” 3:07:58 PM 9/16/03 “I think there are better candidates than Arnold but still...a puppet? Come on man! What, he'll wake up in the govener's mansion every morning and read his report from the Republicans on what to do for the day? Gafawhahahahaha!” 3:28:13 PM 9/16/03 “Yeah it's not like the RNC puts out official talking points or anything. There sure is a lot of whining from the right wing about this little delay in the name of voting rights (the foundation of democracy) - even from those who live a loooong way from California.” 3:46:23 PM 9/16/03 Hey Pepper! “Just saw your post, I have to confide something, BUT THIS IS JUST FOR YOU) (SHHH, don't tell anyone!) While I usualy come across as a hard-core right-winger, the truth is, I am a moderate, and on social issues, a liberal!! I don't want people to know that though, it would ruin my image.” 4:12:27 PM 9/16/03 “Hey Pepper watch out for that Wanderer guy. From everything he's posted, I think he's a fascist!” 6:07:05 PM 9/16/03 “Thanks for the heads-up, navi. I almost bought into that warm and fuzzy image he was trying to project. It's nice to have you watching my back (quit eyeing my butt!).” 7:43:30 PM 9/16/03 “Why don't they just have a special reality TV show - survivor style with every declared candidate and whoever is the last one on the Island gets to be governor?” 8:02:29 PM 9/16/03 “HMMMMMmmmmmmmm.... LOL!! If nothing else, the electorate would get a window into the candidates' true natures.” 8:49:13 PM 9/16/03 “"Republics...fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them." --Joseph Story the 9th circus court of appeals is trying to disinfranchise the voters by this ruling...which dubiously came a day after bill clinton visited the state. this is truely mazing and i cannot believe any honest person would see it as anything other than a judicial power grab for the democratic party, just as gore tried to do in FL. even if you hate the whole recall thing, which is california law, this decision is incredibly rediculous. the whole basic for their ruling is bogus. the voting machines wer good enough to vote in davis, and electronic machines have a simular error rate as punch cards(MIT did a study)” 10:15:24 PM 9/16/03 “Live by the chad -- die by the chad.... Dewd.” 10:31:23 PM 9/16/03 “no way tilt. be honest man. you know it's crap. i would feel the same if davis was republican. FL was totally different. gore took it to the courts and gore tried to change the rules by having different standards for different precints(SP?) and by only counting heavily democratic areas. why was it ok to elect davis by the same standards? it's bogus dood. aadmit it...” 10:38:31 PM 9/16/03 “Yep, it's probably a political reason that brought Davis to sue for the new machines. I seriously doubt that the judgement would have been different had they brought this suit before the court in October of last year, though.” 10:48:09 PM 9/16/03 “thank you phaeddy. very good critical thinking of you...” 10:50:00 PM 9/16/03 “Doesn't change a thing. The machines should be replaced, and the statement that the ninth is trying to disenfranchise voters is ludicrous.” 10:54:08 PM 9/16/03 “Trying to have it both ways, Dewd? Nothing new about THAT, LOL! Why are the Republicans in California in such a hurry? Are they afraid that their recall momentum is slipping away?” 10:55:19 PM 9/16/03 “Me again, folks! Just checkink out all of ze sreads about me. Hallo!” 9:22:21 PM 9/17/03 “Hey, Arnie! Gary Coleman is going to whip yo buns in this election. You know you are scared.” 9:25:42 PM 9/17/03 “Ha, ha!! No I am very scared of Larry Flynt!” 9:29:35 PM 9/17/03 “The Republicans are in a big hurry, because it's common knowledge that they can't keep it up for very long.” 9:42:52 PM 9/17/03 “Zzzzing!” 10:13:03 PM 9/17/03 “I'm a Republican, and I'm in a hurry so we won't have to hear about it 23 1/2 hours a day. Ahhnold, bustamante, mary carey, who cares. Just get it over with.” 11:54:47 PM 9/17/03 “Lots less coverage of Arnold and Gary and more of Mary! (sorry guys) Actually..... more reporting of less coverage on Mary...” 12:02:16 AM 9/18/03 “There you go. We need to see her...platforms” 12:09:11 AM 9/18/03 “Talking Points....” 12:37:31 AM 9/18/03 “Does she have perky talking points?” 7:41:13 AM 9/18/03 “I vould luff to haff Mary Carey for my Lieutenant Governor except that they don't do ziss office as a ticket in California - it iss elected separately. Vat a bummer!” 8:44:31 AM 9/18/03 “You'd think Mary Carey would be able to mount a credible campaign.” 8:52:46 AM 9/18/03 “I understand she is going to organize a whistlestop tour of California...” 8:54:24 AM 9/18/03 “I liked Mary Carey's earlier work before she went and got a boob job, considered herself a diva and made that sucka$$ Butterfly album.” 8:59:06 AM 9/18/03
