Appropriate for Family Hike?
I'm having to go down Ashville way and am taking the family. We thought about doing some light hiking for few days on the AT at the GSM but I came across the Lost Cover Wilderness Area. It is rated moderate. If I don't put pack on 8 year old, how appropriate would this moderate be? How's the fishing? Anyone had the pleasure?

It's a few miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The turn off is VERY hard to find. It's not marked. When you get near Linville, Stop at a store and ask directions. The locals should be able to help you.
IMO, I'd take a hike up at Shining Rock Wilderness instead.

I suspect the fishing is good there since I have seen a number of fishermen there - for kid access I think the Hunt-Fish trail dropping into the area by the falls is a good choice - a bit of elevation drop / climb but short enough that a kid would probably have no problem with it.
