There should be one!
If there isn't. College is hard when it involves algebra, probability and statistics, histology, anatomy and physiology, etc. It can be rather dry.
Just think how much fun it would be if there were such thing as college to learn skills/sports we WANT to learn cause they're cool.
Climbing 101, 202,.. 900.
Mountaineering, backpacking, hiking, orienteering, kayaking and canoeing, outdoor photography, ....
We'd all want to go and we'd all get PhD's in one or more! No more abscences, tardys, or drop outs.
No more complaining about the cost of tuition, books/gear.
I'd be dreaming of backpacking instead of dreaming about tissue samples, cells and equations.
I think it would be heavenly.

I agree. There are some courses to be had out there. I've been toying with the idea myself, as I've got to find something to get into for college. I don't have anything offered, that I can find, in my area.

It couldn't be any more useless than a degree in French Literature...hell, you might actually be able to make some money...

It all depends on the teachers. If the teachers suck, then it doesn't matter what the curriculum is, they'll ruin it for the students.

If you want actual college credit, you can check out NOLS (http://www.nols.edu), they offer these types of classes.

Stikmon!
You make me blush! goodness.
what got me thinking about all that is the promise I made myself that when this stint of college is completed that I'd take courses that are fun which I've wanted to take.
Climbing courses, kayak techniques, and Whitewater Rescue.
TWSRA offers several of them.
I'm serious about it and would rather pay to take a class and know what I'm getting. Someone, who shall remain nameless, once told me "oh go on down to any crag. Guys will always want to help and teach a pretty blonde gal." I'd rather not chance it. I've been taught before by dudes who nearly got me killed and upset me in ways I couldn't understand!

love the site. Thanks Matt
For the info. It is truly amazing. I never even knew such a think existed! It might be just what I need. I didn't know for example that they could take a person thru one course to complete EMT/WEMT. What a great thing that would be. Finish both at once if I understood correctly. I always figured I'd have to do the EMT to WEMT thing. They offer that as well. Stikmon, you're looking more and more like you're real bad injured. C'mere, this won't hurt.. much. What do you MEAN you're not a practice dummy?!

I know a few people who have taken courses there. One guy I know took his first semester of college there. All report high quality staff and a very favorable experience (Lander, WY location). Expensive though.

Bringham Young has probably the best outdoor leadship degree program around.

Ow. Yes that will make you slurry-headed for awhile.

I had to teach a class yesterday afternoon, and I was good for bupkus yesterday evening.

If you are in the Upper Great Lakes region (or would be happy studying on the shores of Lake Superior), check into Northland College in Ashland, WI, where the whole college has an natural resources/outdoor emphasis - my ACA canoeing instructor course was taught by one of Northland's faculty.

A little farther east on the shore, in Marquette in "da U.P.," take a look at Northern Michigan University's outdoor recreation/education program offered through its Phy. Ed. department. Get credits in all the things you mentioned, danababy. One of NMU's exercise physiologists is a mountaineer who studies high altitude endurance of his fellow mountaineers.
