Miss 'ya, Jim
9/20/73, a truly sad day...

TIME IN A BOTTLE
JIM CROCE

If I could save Time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
'Til Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

CHORUS:
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

He wrote some really good stuff. I wonder what More classics we'd have if he had stayed around.

Wasn't aware of this anniversary, but Jim Croce was a true talent of the time. Wow, 30 years! I was definitely one of his fans. 'Operator' was a fav of mine...

Great post. One of my favorite songs, but one I seldom remember until something like this reminds me.

I actually remember when he died. His song "Time in the Bottle" made me cry the first time I heard it.

I remember that day too, and I was only 10. I remember when Harry Chapin died too.

Croce was not only a great artist himself but he also supported the work of other young artists. A good egg.

Bit, when I was younger, I played basketball with Steve Chapin a couple of times. A good ball player and a real nice guy. Harry came by the schoolyard once when I was there. He was such a nice dude. Just a regular guy stopping in to say hi to people in the neighborhood. Man, there seems to be no justice when things like that happen to folks like him and Croce...

It was eerie. I took the wife to work Saturday morning and when I returned my son had some drivel (what passes for music these days) blaring on the hi-fi. I turned the selector to "phono" and flipped through the collection. Buried there in the Cs was something I hadn't heard in a long time so I threw it on. Just as the first notes started to fill the room, I perused the liner notes. There, referenced, was his deathday. "Hey, wait a minute, isn't today the 20th," I asked myself. Looking at the top of the newspaper, I confirmed that it'd been thirty years. I had to sit down.
Just thought I'd share...

croce's grandparents lived up the street from me..
in Willingboro NJ. I used to ride my bike and see him and his large mustache sitting out front of the house and he waved to every kid in the neighborhood. I never knew who he was till years later. My fav song is "walkin back to Georgia", but there isn't one song that I couldn't sing by heart.
