Om, Southwest is pretty much $99 each way going into Salt Lake City from anywhere. It also seems likely people will be working out car pools to and from the airport when the time gets closer.

I'm thinking of flying in July 31 to Denver and doing a hike beforehand (Teton Crest? Or getting my spoon back, It's at Pine Island Lake), Renting a car for two weeks sucks but it'll end up being cheaper than driving, and I'll maximize my time. If anyone else is thinking of doing the same let me know.

I expect to be flying from Seattle - to SLC I guess. Not exactly sure if I'll get in a day or two earlier - I'd like to be getting the time off work might be tricky. I'd be interested in sharing costs of a rental car or carpooling if the timing works out.

I just read about a local school group getting back from the winds. They were saying how cold it was and they could never stop moving for fear of frostbite. I am getting tired of cold. I want warm. If summer does not get here soon, I am going to jump in my car, drive to florida, thaw out ( however long that takes) and then come home.

Predicted high today here is 85. Sunching and lollipops all around. And this climate has been here all my life, even the parts of it I lived where it gets twenty below and snows.

Out of commission
I have to drop out of this trip. To say I'm bummed/disappointed/upset doesn't even come close.

I managed to give my self a stress fracture in my sacrum (lower back) in December while towards the end of a long hike/snowshoe. Took abotu 7 weeks to get it diagnosed (exacerbated by my refusal - and knowing now what I know, I can't believe I did this - to believe the sometimes agonising pain was nothing more than a bad muscle strain).

My latest visit to the doctor is pessimistic in terms of recvoery time - he says not to expect to be back to my normal activities until the autumn.

I can't even go for a walk - got to stick to no impact activities - cycling and swimming. I'm going to miss the mountains so badly.

For those I know who are on this trip I'm going to miss backpacking with you again, for those I don't know, I'm sorry I'm not going to meet you, at least not this summer.

Bummer to hear that.

How do they expect you to get better if you can't go to the mountains?

Take care of your self lady, and keep an eye on next year.

Bummer, sorry to hear that. I was looking forward to hiking with you and all the other TT'ers I have yet to meet.

aussie - I can't imagine how bummed out you are!! I suppose that cramps your style in a lot of activities. Are you still rowing and such?

Please keep us posted.

Thanks for your support.

I'm pretty constrained in what I can do in the short term - in addition to any kind of impact I have to avoid any stress to my lower back, so will be skipping dragon boat paddling practice for a little while just because getting in and out of the boats can be tricky. I gave up paddling a couple of years ago due to shoulder and hip problems and now exercise my voice as the team's drummer/caller (equiv to a coxswain). Hopefully by the time the paddling competitive season hots up in June I'll be healed enough so that the boats aren't a problem.

Enjoy those mountains !

Ah man,

Aussie, we were suppose to do some off trail stuff together. I am so bummed about your back. I wonder if we can make some TT brace for you to wear.

Oh well, you will be missed. Do what the doctor says to do I will plan a trip next year with some off trail stuff. Good luck and send me some coffee in you new spare time.
