The trips page does not allow an "anonymous" trip organizer, unless of course someone changed their log on information.

However, that sounds great to me. No organizer, just show up and go. Promotes independence and self reliance and all that good stuff.

Self-directed teams?
Wasn't that the management fad de jour a few years ago?

wingdingo!
Save me from looking back into this thread and tell me what book you are looking at. Just what I need, another trail guide for an area I will only go to once. I tell you, I am an addict!

Hiking isn't an addiction - is a perfectly acceptable alternative lifestyle.

Buying trail guides is an addiction.

I can do self-directed just as long as someone tells me what to do. :)

So this 6 feet of shelf space full of hiking books is addiction? How about the drawers full of maps? Maybe those are obsessions?

If someone would tell me when it is, I will make the trip page. Did we come to a consensus? I vote anytime in August.

AH heck. I am just going to do make the page and fill in the blanks later. That way we can start getting a feel for who is coming and build a consensus as to where we want to hike and when. I will put August 8th for a starting dated, but will assume that we will confirm a date later.

Good for you, a man of action. I'm in, regardless of the date.

Last time I was there the bugs were bad. I were sleeping soundly one night but was awakend by two mosquitoes who had opened the tent to look me over. In my fright I heard them talking. One asked the other if they should eat us right there or take me down by the stream. The other replied that I should be eaten in the tent, if they took me down to the stream, the big mosquitoes would steal me from them.

those are the books and maps you need. There are sketchy maps in the book without topo info . . . but the map set is excellent and worth having.

I'm down as a strong maybe on this one. I just need to settle on a date for finishing the Long Trail before I know for sure.

I had a trip planned on the west side of the Winds in 2000, but the fires just to the east of Pinedale forced me to switch to RMNP instead. So I'm hoping to use this book and maps this year.

bigpoppa, me as the leader? Yeah, right!

Is the date for 8/8-8/16 a "for sure" date? Unless I missed something, it didn't look like it was a for sure thing.

No, that is not a firm date. I just started reading the recommending book "Hiking and Climbing Wind River" and just looking at the weather and other envirmental factors, I think I would be leaning towards the last two weeks of August.

I will be sending out emails Dec 15 to the people who are comfirmed ( not the maybe's). The route and trails will be decided through majority consensus.

I am also looking at some entrance and exit plans so people can choose the length of the trip they can make. I know I can not be away from home for 10 days like I did last summer. At most I will gone 7 total.

Someone emailed me and asked what is the best airport to fly in. I did not know at this time, but if anyone knows, I am sure a few people like myself will appreciate the answer.

Bigpoppa: I'm in if the date is at least a week after that listed on the trips page. The date for the trip is really what needs to be decided first . . . at least for me. So you should keep the "maybes" on the email list too. IF it is the last two weeks of Aug. (or later) then I'm in for sure.

I was in RMNP the last week in Sept. - no bugs, no crowds, and not a drop of rain for 5 days! I talked to one of the locals while there, and they said mid - late Sept. was the best time to go.

My 2 cents on dates
I'm not a definite, but a very strong maybe. It might be a good idea to keep the dates prior to the start of most schools which is generally late/end of August.

Bigpoppa, please include the "Maybes" on the e-mails. I can't be a "For Sure" until I know the trip and dates.

If you all don't mind me following along then I will see if I can get the vacation time. I would hope to confirm dates soon as we pick vacations days soon for the next year. If not I can get a trade shift I hope.

It still looks like Aug 8-14 is probably best for the 'back to schoolers' as well as the majority of others. If it has to be August, that's probably gonna be best for me too.

Gotta get that vacation schedule done in the next week or two....

I will put something together by the end of the week. Friday I will send the emails. That is the best I can do. I just got my two books about the area a few days ago. I am reading them. Once I get the lay of the land, I can then understand the routes that everyone has suggested.
Bigpoppa

We could set the dates and then fine tune the route.

I got the WY Topo software. I have Fridays off. I'll install it and check out the routes then.

I send a email out with dates and itineary. Let me know if you like August 7 - 14.

We can then dissect the trip after the date.

There were some people who could not make later in the month. So lets not worry about the weather and bugs, just let me know if you can make that date.

Got the e-mail - thank you.

My date preference is either the first or last week in August, but I guess I'll just skip the dragon boat races if its abutting the 14th/15th.

I need to dig out my books and maps to chekc out proposed routes - just moved so need to find the box they're in.....

Rockman, I tried sending you an email and it got kick back to me. What is your email.

Just for the recored. I am trying the route the trip with my book and my Megellan software. It is driving me crazy. The book has these names of lakes that are different then my software. Secondly the software has unnamed lakes that my books names like Victor Lake. I can find Victor Mt, but no lake. It is crazy.

I am know going through the two trips and looking at elevation. What is going to keep us on the ridge the most.
