Pioneer Basin
While on the road Friday I wimped out on my trip over Taboose Pass to Bench Lake. I needed to come up with a new destination, so I decided to go check out Pioneer Basin. I guess it must have been those pictures davidkiene posted last week on our Socalhikers site (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/socalhikers/).

I started hiking around noon on Friday and camped at 4th Recess lake that night. On Saturday I headed into Pioneer Basin and camped at Lake 6 just below the ridge (Stanford Col is the low point on the ridge I believe) that separates Pioneer Basin from the McGee Creek drainage. It was beautiful out there. On Sunday I hiked up to the ridge near Mount Crocker and checked out the beautiful Red & White views. After I packed up camp I was planning to hike up to Trail Lake and camp, but it when I arrived at Trail Lakes I decided to head
back to the trailhead.

After a couple of days at higher elevations it gets a lot easier to breath.

Here are some of the pictures I took:

Awesome pics wingding! That's a really beautiful area you were hiking in. Where on the Sierra Range is Pioneer Basin? I see from your pictures that the aspens are starting to change, at about what elevations are the changes happening?

Yep. Another round of fantastic photos.

People here and there might say we're lost. Losing ourselves in the mountains. You know, in the wilderness and all that. Looking for something. Not realizing that all that time, we've actually found it.

Ever have your family say you're not all there? That you're looking for something? I have.

And they're right!

But it's also about numbing the pain of what you're handed way too often. Somehow, when you're in the mountains all seems right. Just you and that empty canvas to make of it what you want.
