“After many lawyers telling me I have no rights as a grandparent, I finally found a lawyer who said I had a case...

The day of our intial hearing, the mom "wasn't feeling well" and agreed to everything I wanted with only one negotiation.

She and my son still share custody and parental rights and responsibilities, but now I'm included in the visitation schedule.

“My daughter's really close friend, 14 yo, just had her mother die from cancer. Her mother is from Germany and she was there visiting her grandparents when her mother died. I am sure her mother planned it that way. The girl does not want to live with her father so she is refusing to come back to the States. Her father is threatening to bring her back by force. I doubt that is going to happen, but the girl didn't come back for her mothers funeral in fear that her dad would be there to get her. She calls my daughter every couple mornings to cry on her shoulder.

It is a tough thing but doesn't have to be as bad as some people make it. I hope your divorce process is smooth. Use a mediator if you can. Divorce sucks even more when you spend years and thousands of $ letting lawyers fight over every little detail. Just get it done and start your life over. Just my opinion.

But mostly....take care of your kids and yourself.

Thursday I'm meeting my daughter after (her) work and we're going to dinner, then seeing a conference and movie (Clandestine Tibet at the International Adventure Film Festival of Montreal.
