Hello!
Just a brief shout out to say I just got back from Istanbul and it was AMAZING!!

I'm running on fumes after an 11 hour flight - it's about 2am Istanbul time....

I will write all about the trip in the next day or so and will have pictures processed by this weekend.

What day is it? Thursday?

No hammam for me - the idea of getting naked and scrubbed down by a stranger in a totally foreign country freaked me out. My travel companion however went - twice - and loved it. Guess when I go back to visit some new friends I'll have to make it a must do on my list. :)

You'd think in a place called Turkey you'd be able to get great turkey - but nooooooo - all they had was lamb, lamb, lamb, and more stinky, nasty a$$ tasting lamb. Blech! I learned that I do not like lamb. Other then that the food is delicious!

Check it out - one of the nights there we had a terrific dinner in a 1,000+ year old cistern!

I stood on the edge of Europe - took a ferry across to Asia - wandered so many streets - talked to many friendy Turks - exchanged backpacking laughs with a couple from Frankfurt who are making their way to India via motorcycle! - learned many words and phrases in Turkish - watched The Simpsons with Turkish subtitles - walked along the crumbling battlements of a 500 year old fortress that was built in just 4 months while gazing at the Bosphorous - learned how to talk prices down to less than half of the opening quote - made some fabulous new friends - took so many pictures - saw Viking grafitti in the Haghia Sophia - ...oh, it was simply fantastic.... so much was seen and experienced - I'm still in the dream of it all....

Sometimes a bargain isn't such a bargain. Twinks, did you convert what you paid back to dollars when you bought things? I know it's easy to get caught up in the Mad Money thing.

I usually get the "monopoly" money line about foreign money when I complain about trying to strighten out my final one-dollar bill to try to get the vending machine to accept it.
