HPM! LMAO!

OPIE! ROFLMAO!

Mapleleaf - I suggest that you call your lawyer, sue the crap out of the people who took your treehouse, and post the results on the existant "Lost the Treehouse" thread, or one of those threehouse threads ya got out there. And don't think I don't know the only reason you're inviting me is to watch twinkle toes slap the #&%!$ outta me.

Geobeet is absolutely correct. I posted a trip report from this weekend's trip and 4 people responded.

Ya know, guys need to know what to do with leftover smegma at all times. So, that thread could count as "on topic".
Let's explore that. (See, exploration is on topic, also.)
The camera pans slowly back on two dudes sitting beside the camp fire. It's a beautiful, starlit night somewhere deep in the remote wilderness.
Joe, "Hey Bob, what Do you do with leftover smegma?"
Bob, "What's smegma?"

Not only did I read your TR, I immediately searched for your Osprey pack so I could view it's merits. I read every trip report posted, but somethimes think that I have nothing to add, nor any questions to ask. I wonder if this happens with others?

HPM - you have a cool, hottie for a wife, who lets you backpack at will, and a lovely daughter.

I have a jar of vasoline, a teddy bear, and now a mesh hat with a captains thread. Excuse me, I needed it more than you!

Existance - validated.

All this posturing and bowing is very unbecoming of TT.

Its like the mystical toothless poodles of the Serengeti have a Mexican standoff at a territorial line. Each fearing that any outburst of excessive gumming could jeopardize ones status within the extend pack.

Stop trying to take the fun out of dysfunctional.

I agree with BB...
The ratio of threads is way out of what a person would think as normal. I find myself abandoning searches for trip reports, because there is just to much garbage. I post 99% backpacking related threads. But do post on threads that appear interesting or insightful.
A 50% ratio would seem to be more in line for a backpacking website.
I enjoy reading threads that give some insight into the kind of people who post here. And because of that, I hope to go to the east coast and backpack with a few of the east coast backpackers. I also want to go to Montana and the northwest to meet all those folks too.
But, there are quite a few threads that, make me wonder why anyone would take the time to post them. I certainly would not want to infringe on someones right to speak or post. Nor would I want to make someone uncomfortable about posting something they find funny or insightful.
But where is the line between entertaining and stupid. And I wonder if they actually have a life outside of TT.
Consolidating threads is a good idea. If the top 20 threads are not something ridiculous. If I had a backpacking website, I would not want a new person seeing some of the hot topics that seem to go on and on. Burying useful information, good trip reports, and good honest insightful threads about peoples lives.
On the JMT when I met someone new. We discussed all kinds of things as well as backpacking and trail isssues. So that is sorta what I think would happen here.
As for the person who does not want to backpack with someone who only talks about backpacking. Geez, I think this is a backpacking site. Or so the name would incline me to believe. And I guess that is why God made a bunch of different trails. Since we probably would not want to backpack with you either.
BB thank you for bringing it up. Because, outside of the postings on this site. There has been a lot of discussion about TT becoming a wasted site. Dominated by non backpackers and Hikers. Other than that I like TT, but find I visit it less and less, due to this abnormal ratio.

and i dont really have a problem with all the frivolous threads. heaven knows ive started my share. its the phenomenon of how we become more important, more interesting, more lovable when we die. thats always bothered me, and has nothing to do with netiquette, which is what we're really arguing about here. and thats why i was a little snot on a couple of threads. that, and its just entertaining to stir the hornets nest.

Is TT so important in our lives that we have to start worrying about how bad it sucks these days? Why do we care if a website becomes crappy? Is it because there are only 1029375738945734908 other ones left or what? it's not like websites are an endangered species or limited resource.

who cares - just don't open the threads you don't want to.

If you don't like to see the trip and gear threads drop off the page so fast, then comment when you read them. A short post like "great report" acknowledges the effort and encourages more TTers to post their stuff.
