TT Topic Counter

“We always hear "TT is not what it used to be", "there are too many off topic threads", etc., etc. So, in the spirit of research, I am conducting a dialy thread topic experiment, so we can have hard core mathimatical data to back up any arguements waged here.

The criteria is as follows:

BP Related Threads
Non-BP Related Threads

Here is the count for 9/26/03:

BP-Related: 23
Non-BP Related: 60”

“Good idea, BB. I've contributed to my share of off-topic threads, but like to think I've started a lot of worthwhile on-topic ones as well. But really I don't mind off-topic threads at all, UNLESS they're the useless political threads or the ones that tell someone they have email. I think those really just clutter up the board, and bring it down.”

I realize I'm the new guy around here, but I thought this was a forum for backpackers to get together and "hang out" so to speak, not necessarily talk backpacking all the time. I'll go along with that sentiment.

But, like I said, I have no idea what this place was like 2 years ago. I just think it's funny that everyone wants to gripe about the political threads, but the ones about what color to paint your toenails don't even get mentioned.
I wasn't singling you out Artex, I just noticed several comments about the politics lately. Of course, if Alaska quit posting, you'd lose about 79% of your political threads right there.”

I do agree with the spirit of your research BB, in that perhaps it's a wakeup call to post more efficiently, but perhaps Matt could help out and somehow refine the topics list so you could for instance, ignore entire threads from individuals, or create a more stratified topic list...

“when i ignore someone, i want to really ignore someone. i DONT want to see their thread titles, and i DONT want to see "message from _______ is being ignored". i think the simplest solution would be to remove the chatter option to a separate forum so theyre not mixed with backpacking threads. because i like both, but i would like to see unrelated things unmixed.”

“I hung around this site a fair bit back in 98 to 2000.Seems to me back then there was alot of non-bp threads back then.We had Gentle Ben bragging about growing pot and mugging hikers in National Forests in Tennesse.We has wind dragon talking about druidism.We discussed Nigals love of motor sports,your favourite beer etc..We discussed religion,and many other things.Things really haven`t changed that much.Maybe a seperation would help.One area for serious bp talk,one for chatter andone for politics.??????”
