Found this site by surfing on the web.

Experience: Started BPing in 1999. I have hike in VA on the AT and on the shore line in Virgina Beach (Back Bay) and I have hiked the AT from West Virginia to Harrisburg PA. The longest trip I have taken is 3 days, 4 nights. I am not an ultralite hiker and don't wish to convert to one either. I have tried that route and I found that I enjoy my experience more without going ultralite.

Looking to take advantage of some hiking trips that I see go one at this site.

I am originally from Florence- Which is right on the coast of Oregon where the main sports are dune ridding and scubba-diving. I am 17 and have never backpacked but I have done some long day hikes and my longest was almost 20 miles in a day.

“Not to fan the fire at the welcome campfire. But I have tried ultralite, light sleeping bag, pepsi can stove, light backpack, tarp, lite beer (wink) .. ect. I was just not having the fun and comfort I enjoy at camp. Like the old addage goes.. your choice is simple, comfortable on the trail or in camp...

My pack weighs about 35 lbs with food and water and I am pretty happy with that. I can hike 10- 14 miles a day with that weight.

Thanks for the welcome and I too hope to meet some of you on some of these trips. Right now I am going for my Masters Degree in Business so I have find a way to balance that and hiking... But I need the BPing to stay sane!

“It just depends on your BPing style.
If your thing is to hike in a little bit then hang in camp then take a few luxuries.
If your thing is to do lots of miles then it's nice to have a lighter pack.

“I live in Southern California, but have not gotten out on the trails much this spring/summer/fall due to my wacky schedule as a consultant in this depressed economy. And I'm one of the few Californians who is NOT running for governor in the recall election/circus!.

Have been hiking locally for over 25 years, including climbing trips in South America & to Mt. McKinley. Those trips were great fun but I've tired of all the travel and stay in the US west these days (Cascades to N. Arizona). You might say these days I eat too much, drink too much, but don't backpack enough (can you b-pack too much?).”

Yeah, we jumped in uninvited a few months ago to TT. Met Sass, Birch, Q, Gonzo, Sunshine ... (we are very fortuante, they are great backpackers and great people & we appeciate their acceptance of us).. in Auguast. I began backpacking in middle school and continued thru college. I've missed it terribly (I spent my formative years on the AT mostly in GA, NC, VA, MD). Now I am city bound in Chicago. My husband decided he wanted the boys 12 & 8 to go camping...I took the oppurtuniy to push him towards backpacking...and I am so very happy.
He still wont sit on the ground but w/ the Thermarest chair he is willing to go anywhere. He's a gadget kind of guy so watches your threads about gear with envy. And trust me, he want to try every contrivence you can think of (he is also the fishing person of the family).
Our youngest still isn't ready for a big trip. And since hubby & I haven't planned a trip sans kids yet (although, I dream one day of tackling a trip similar to the White Mtns trip planned for next year) we are commited to making shorter trips. Next year we go to Yellowstone for backcountry camping then the Grand Tetons (not bad for us flatlanders?). I've never been W of Denver so I am very psyched & welcome your thoughts or experiences. So far we are staying flexible w/ our plans but if you have a must see...please let me know. NC, Linville area is are next small outing coming up...we are probably going to repeat it in March...think I should try to arrange a Family TT back packing trip for then???”

“Well I guess I somewhat managed sneak into TT unnoticed back in June. At lest I haven't been called a troll yet. I've been backpacking for 19 years, starting out with just one trip a year with my dad and friends. I live about 10 minutes from the southern border of the Adirondack Park so naturally they have become my playground. About three years ago I started hiking up mountains. After the first two years I only climbed two High Peaks (Dix and East Dix). Last year I have gotten a little more serious and have completed 18 as of today (hopefully 21 as of tomorrow).

I discovered TT this June. I was trying to get information on the Northville - Placid Trail. A 122 mile trail cut through the heart of the Adirondacks. Since I have become a member of this community I have gone on one trip (SYAO in the Adirondacks). At the trip I met Adventurist, Mrs. Adventurist, and Pennsy.”
