If they do, it would be almost impossible not to see the characters as portrayed in the movie. Gone would be all those beautiful scenes we each conjured up in our own mind. Each different from the next. For me, PJ caught a piece of my imagination in many ways, but in many others, I still have my own picture of what things should look like. I hope my daughter will have the chance to paint her own pictures of Middle Earth before she sees the movies.” 10:42:13 AM 12/22/03 “That would be great, but difficult to do in this visual oriented society, IJ. Unless you become blessed with a child that has an appreciation for the written word. I wish you well on that one.” 10:44:01 AM 12/22/03 Wow! “In it's first five days, LOTR netted 125 million dollars domestically. That is not a record, although close. However, they did set a worldwide release record by pulling in a quarter billion around the globe in its first five days...” 11:02:23 AM 12/22/03 “Saw it Friday night by mtself and went back with a date Sunday to see it again. Wicked Awesome great Fantastic movie. I loved the entire trilogy. I don't wanna say much, so I dont give anything away to those less fortunates who have yet to see it. Schmeegal (sp?) was cool. I laughed at all the pots and pans clanking on sames back... He needs to visit REI more often! LOL Now I'm looking forward to Indiana Jones part 4... I can't wait for Star Wars "Episode 3" that will bring the 2 trilogies together......” 11:38:41 AM 12/22/03 “I'm personally waiting for "Indiana Ring Wars" the movie that fuses all three stories into one HUGE BLOCKBUSTER!” 12:11:52 PM 12/22/03 “Just got done devouring six hours of the Two Towers extended edition. That 43 extra minutes makes a big difference in filling out some of the back story. A couple cool things I learned that I didn't know was that Aragorn was actually 87 years old and also that the actor that did Gimli also did the voice of Treebeard. This damn thing is LOADED with goodies!” 2:37:37 PM 12/22/03 “Nig - The extended edition DVD was a much more complete version. I'm shocked the bit with Farimor (spelling?) and his favored big brother's interaction with the father was not in the original version. Pretty important interplay.” 2:44:29 PM 12/22/03 “Oh, there’s also a great easter egg too. If you go to “scene selection” on disk one and choose the last section of scenes and go down passed the last scene a gold ring appears. Press enter and it plays Golem’s acceptance speech for winning an MTV award. Hilarious! You haven’t gotten the full scope of the character until you’ve heard him call someone a pincledik. Then he starts ageing with himself… Golum: Nobody likes YOU!” Smeagle: Dobby likes me!” Golum: “Dobby? Dobby’s a phucking fag!”” 2:53:17 PM 12/22/03 “I will return.” 3:18:44 PM 12/22/03 “Nigal, I just watched that award scene for the first time. That was hilarious!” 3:25:17 PM 12/22/03 3:31:09 PM 12/22/03 sheesh... “can you all leave NOTHING untouched...Maple...I'm not even gonna bother with your link... Smeagol Faramir comon get it right or don't bother. to some of us, this is as improtant as the bible is to others. I don't take pot shots at that so, please leave the not so funny crap to some other less important thread...and yes, I take my self way too seriously and am a huge tolkien @sshole. so, fukoff the nonsense. someone please smack bitpusher for me the next time you see him, if its before I do. good grief!!! I'm calling and telling your wife everything you said.” 4:07:48 PM 12/22/03 “WTF? did you just yell at me?” 4:11:59 PM 12/22/03 “Admit it, stikky... ...you've seen it every day since it came out, right?” 4:14:04 PM 12/22/03 “EAT IT! stikky ;)” 4:14:59 PM 12/22/03 eat THIS... “you sorry lame@ss lazy good for nothing peice of human excrement that squirted out of the hind end of a dead rat. and no, I didn't yell at YOU! I reprimanded you for participating in the debasement of THE most important peice of literature/film that has ever been worked on. and NO, I have NOT seen it everyday since it came out...I've READ it every year since 1978.” 4:18:25 PM 12/22/03 “Golum: Nobody likes YOU!” Stikky: Dobby likes me!” Golum: “Dobby? Dobby’s a phucking fag!”” 4:22:44 PM 12/22/03 “I missed the dialogue the first hour of the movie because the stupid woman sitting next to me felt it necessary to annotate every 5 seconds of the movie with some sort of (stupid) comment (Look at that! Precious) or Sound (mostly Hmpfhing, or clucking). Not to be prejudiced, but is this a black thing??? I have never sat next to someone so rude in all my life. I shushed her and told her I couldn't hear when she was talking...she didn't get the picture though. I was about to stand up and yell "shut the fucck UP" but I restrained myself. Luckily, the movie got louder so I couldn't hear her anymore. Of all the things that test my patience...” 4:24:15 PM 12/22/03 “The sad thing is the woman wasn't really following the movie at all (you could tell from her comments--and she left for 15 mintues to go get popcorn). Why even go???” 4:26:48 PM 12/22/03 “No biz, it's not a 'black thing'. A$$holes come in all colors.” 4:28:53 PM 12/22/03 “I was wondering if it was cultural to make a comment every 5 seconds. Like maybe some people just can't help it? She knew she was annoying me.” 5:15:16 PM 12/22/03 “I can not wait to see it..maybe I'll go tonight...wooohoooo” 5:47:50 PM 12/22/03 “why is a documentary on the making of the movie a debasement?” 6:02:37 PM 12/22/03 “I read the Hobbit (which kinda got me familiar with some of the characters) but didn't read Lord of the Rings. Even with not knowing what was going to happen next I still enjoyed it. I was still pretty lost by some of the things going on in the movie but I think by renting the first two again I'll better understand it. I know Radagast (from TT) got his name from Lord of the Rings but I don't remember hearing the name in the movie. Which one was he? I think they need to make a movie called "Lord of the Precious". It would be the deffenitive story of Golum. That dude is a hoot!” 6:18:28 PM 12/22/03 “Radagast is a minor character in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, he's Gandalf's brother. He's not in any of the movies.” 6:37:30 PM 12/22/03 “Radagast the Brown, he was another wizard mentioned in The Hobbit, he doesn't appear in LOTR trilogy.” 6:45:07 PM 12/22/03 “was anyone else reminded of the at-at battle on hoth when the oliphants joind the fray?” 6:54:50 PM 12/22/03 “yo, beeyatch, gandalf ain't my brutha. who'd be our momma? there were five of us istari... pallando, alatar, gandalf, saruman and i. git yo shiznit straight or stikmon is gonna have a heart attack!” 9:16:43 PM 12/22/03 Radagast in NOT Gandalf's brother... “he is a fellow wizard...a member of the same order. and yes...what Bitpusher said...small part in the Hobbit, and as for LOTR...the moth that Gandalf talks to when he is trapped up in Orthanc has been sent out to look for Gandalf by Radagast. Through the moth, Gandalf sends word to Radagast that he is being held captive in Orthanc and to send help...help arrives in the way of Gwaihir, the King of the Eagles. It is also Gwaihir that saves and rescues Gandalf from the top of Zirakzigil after he defeats the Balrog of Moria. Radagast is the one who gets word to Gwaihir, as Radagast is the Wizard who is most closly akin to all manner of beasts in Middle Earth. It is Gwaihir, his brother Landroval and Meneldor the Swift, who you see in the histories. They fought the Nazgul on their winged beasts and also were instrumental in the Battle of Five Armies, that has been formerly recounted in the Red Book of Westmarch (The Hobbit).” 9:37:35 PM 12/22/03 “Man, You guys are really into this stuff!” 9:53:40 PM 12/22/03 “Did Gwaihir also rescue Bilbo...in the Hobbit???” 10:15:20 PM 12/22/03 “Haldol.” 10:15:53 PM 12/22/03 “i really liked lotr: the return of the jedi. george lucas shore made those ewoks funny. especially chewbacca. and what about when gandalf fought darth vader with his magical light-saber? one wookie to bind them, one wookie to find them, one wookie to blindside them.” 10:32:07 PM 12/22/03 who the fuk is Haldol??? “I'm unfamiliar with Haldol, but I'm ancient and its hard to keep track of all the happenings of yesteryear. I shall have to go the Hall of Records to research Haldol...and yes...Gwaihir and kin rescue Bilbo and the Dwarves as told in the Red Book of Westmarch. This was the first time that the Eagles had lent aid of this sort in many ages...it was only thier hatred of the Orcs and curiosity that sent them to see what was up...sheer luck on the part of Bilbo and the Dwarves. and yes, walkindude...this is a fun passion, and is totally supportable by so many resources...I do remember most of what I talk about, but when in doubt I check up in my books and records. I have lots of crossreference materials that I have collected over the years, including maps from the books that I "acquired" many ages ago...they was my birthday presents they were my precious...yes...a birthday present. hehehe Radagast...I'm impressed, there are few who know of the 5 Istari and even less who can name them. The Istari came out of the Western Sea on an Elven ship, 1000 years after the 3rd Age of the Sun had begun. They came from Aman, the Undying Lands, and were Maiar, powerful spirits who were from a time older than the world itself. Before leaving Aman, for Middle Earth, Olorin or Gandalf, studied under many of the Valar, gaining wisdom and knowledge. But it was Nienna who he was most close with, learning her skill and compassion and the ability to endure beyond hope. In case you all didn't know it, Gandalf was a Ring Bearer himself. He wore Narya, the Ring of Fire. Narya's power was to aid in the enhancement of Bravery and resoluteness. Cirdan, the Shipwright, kept Narya safe until Gandalf needed it, after he destroyed the Balrog. It was through the weilding of Narya, that Gandalf, coupled with his natural abilities, was able to marshall the great spirit that drove the men to such amazing victories. Well done Radagast, well done...there were actually 6 wizards, but the records fail to recognize him...his name was Olftauron, but his tale does not come into play for these histories. His tale continues on to this day, and is accounted as a great wizard in his own right.” 10:44:32 PM 12/22/03 leave it to the children to make fun... “If only you had the same passion about SOMETHING!!! instead of always making snide and stupid comments about most everything...intellectual commentary continues to elude you, and probably will continue to do so.” 10:48:26 PM 12/22/03 “Thanks Stikmon...I watched #1 tonight...and will watch #2 when my kids get here from Ohio...and #3 Sunday eve....I can't wait....I really wish they would have done the Hobbit while they were at it......” 11:01:05 PM 12/22/03 it is always a possibility... “Jackson in moving on to do a new version of King Kong. but, I will enjoy this history, for a long time to come...enjoy, Davinity.” 11:22:25 PM 12/22/03 “Haldol is a powerful anti-psychotic. 'Nuff said.” 7:33:04 AM 12/23/03 “From what I read, Jackson wants to do the Hobbit, but the question of 'rights' to the material are still being ironed out. Along with that, New Line has to ok a budget for it...” 7:58:08 AM 12/23/03 “"Not to be prejudiced, but is this a black thing???" Yes, it is a black thing. Treebeard- I saw Elijah Woods on TV last night talking about them maybe doing the Hobbit. I was overjoyed! One of the documentaries on the new DVD was all about Tolken and his writing style and his influences. He was part of a small group that would meet twice a week and discuss literature and share what they were working on. He and C.S. Lewis were good friends and they said Treebeard was loosely based on his friend Lewis.” 8:09:47 AM 12/23/03 “Didn't know that Nigal. Interesting. Yeah I would love to see the Hobbit done. And along the same lines as the trilogy was done...” 8:14:19 AM 12/23/03 “OK, living in the South, with a high percentage of black people, yes, it is sort of a "black thing". Black people are a lot more likely to react verbally to what's going on in the movie. It's cultural, if you've ever been to a black church, then you know where it comes from. This reminds me of a story a friend of mine used to tell: He went to see "The Wiz" when it came out, you remember, the version of "The Wizard of Oz" with an all-black cast. Great music. Anyway, he's sitting in the theater, damn near the only white person in there. There is a row of young black men sitting in front of him. About halfway through, the music rises and Diana Ross is about to sing, and one of the young black guys in front of my friend says, "Dammit, is that #&%!$ gonna sing again?" Apparently they were unaware that it was a musical.” 8:21:58 AM 12/23/03 “When I went to see Brotherhood of the Wolf at the theaters it was in French with English subtitles. It was the best experience I ever had at the movies. Everyone was reading too much to be blabbering.” 8:28:03 AM 12/23/03 talkers... “that's what they invented popcorn for...a quick flick and boink! upside the head. cool on the hobbit...and newlines budget...what are they nuts...no matter what they spend, they will see it returned in spades!!! LOTR has proven that it is a viable franchise that will be making money from now till the end of days.” 8:39:03 AM 12/23/03 “True, I think it's just the rights issue now and then the budget and offer to Jackson should follow suit...” 8:45:35 AM 12/23/03 “I'm going to go see it again on Friday!! I liked the first two movies, but the third was definetly the best. I haven't read the books but now I'm inspired to read them. Tolkien was a genius, that's all I can say. I can't believe I missed reading them when I was younger. We need more literary geniuses like him.” 10:49:48 AM 12/24/03 did presents last night... “got the collectors two towers set...can't wait to get back from vacation to watch both extended versions and then go see Return a 2nd time...YES>..life is grand.” 1:13:15 PM 12/24/03 “Biz, the imagery this guy set through his words in the books was unparalleled, IMO...” 1:16:58 PM 12/24/03 “Just got a LOTR" Return of the King calendar as a present today. nice pix!!!” 1:17:31 PM 12/24/03 in all seriousness........ “just as lotr is one book in three volumes, not a three-book trilogy, i think the lotr movies need to be viewed as one major epic movie. i think once one does that, most would agree that it is the single greatest achievement in fantastical cinema, one that may never be surpassed. to me, its an interesting dichotomy, in that the BOOKS were the groundwork and the inspiration for modern 20th century fantasy, yet the MOVIES are the exact opposite. the movies are the crowning achievement of special effects and stuntwork and set-pieces and costume design and visual story-telling. truly a masterpiece. great job, pj! i regret never having finished the books, only made it about half-way thru. the action was too slow-moving for my impatient eyes. now that i have a better understanding of what the story really is all about, that you cant read it for straight adventure, that i really have to let the lyrical quality just sort of seep into my bones, i think im ready to start again, as soon as i finish "timeline". lotr will be going on the AT with me, which i believe is very fitting. stinkmon, we need to have a lotr party at your house when the extended rotk comes out on dvd. watch all three extended dvd's back to back to back! what does your heart tell you?” 1:34:37 PM 12/24/03 Jump to Page << prev
