I know what ya mean treebeard....I got a candle w/holder from one co-worker and a tree decoration from another, but didn't return anything. Well I say anything, after the co-worker gave me the deco, I gave her some money since she made this really killer seafood chowder(read that expensive)...I felt really bad I didn't get anyone anything though. Well I've only been here for four months...didn't feel that close, yet. Still that's no excuse...what a bah humbug. That'll change next year.

After seeing the movies, I'm ready to read the books again. I wonder if Peter Jackson knows of the Thomas Covenant, White Gold Weilder series by Stephen Donaldson. That would be an awesome project for him.

Will he go back and do "The Hobbit" now? I hope so.

But have any of you seen it on IMAX yet...HA!
WOW....that's all i gotta say....when the Rohan topped the ridgeline to join the battle...the massiveness of the armies in all the scenes was staggering on that large of a screen...and the surround sound of an imax screen...i heard a whistling of an arrow behind me and turned to look and duck!!!

Opie, by all means dive in then. They consumed me. Mirror of Her Dreams by the same auther, not part of the Thomas Covenant series, is also very good.

The Thomas Covenant trilogy was
great.I still think the author took the setting from middle earth
and put different twists in it.

Finally got to see Return of the King tonight. I'm so happy!

It was really great. My butt didn't fall asleep, and I managed to sit through the whole thing without getting up once. And I had most of a large (read: 55 gallon drum) of Coke.

While at Oxford, one of the poems Tolkien discovered in the course of his
Old English studies was the "Crist of Cynewulf." It included the cryptic
couplet: "Eálá Earendel engla beorhtast / Ofer middangeard monnum
sended" or "Hail Earendel brightest of angels, over Middle Earth sent to
men." ("Middangeard" was a ancient expression for the everyday world
between Heaven above and Hell below.) Much influenced by Icelandic,
Norse and Gothic mythology, Tolkien would develop characters and place
names taken from the ancient sagas. The forest of Mirkwood, which
played a prominent role in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings,
was borrowed from Icelandic mythology. The names of many of the
dwarves in The Hobbit were actual place names in the myths.

Some jackass pulled the fire alarm not once but twice while I was 1/3 the way into this movie. There was ONE projectionist in an 18 screen theater, and he had to reset every movie manually. He was about half way through this when the fire alarm was pulled the second time, forcing him to start over. A 3-1/2 hour flick was turned into about 5 hours. This made the last 15 min excruciatingly slow and unbearable.

Other than that it was awesome.

History? Someone needs to remind Sticky that this all fiction. I think he’s losing his grip on reality.

you all suffer greatly and are in need of deep therapy...ME!!! I get MY therapy EVERY weekend. you all need to get out more and visit the REAL world and trip into Middle Earth more. your mundane and small lives have left you vulnerable to the evils that visit you in the everyday world.

You certainly miss the potential of the invisible world that exists all around us. Its NOT fiction...its a reinterpretation of known historical mystical fact and history...Tolkien, just figured it out and put it all together, the rest is up to us, to believe. so sorry that you all don't believe in magic and laughter...I remember laughter, do you?

Stikmon, you've got serious mental problems if you think a work of fiction is reality. Then again, people believe the bible is reality, so you have plenty of company.

I saw the movie for the first time yesterday. It did not disappoint. Although, I was a little surprised they didn't have Samwise put on the ring.

there are many reasons to believe that...
JRRT uncovered a truthful history. I believe in King Arthur and Merlin...and dragons and such...In the universe of Robert Heinlien...fiction becomes reality, when it is written...why is that such a hard concept to grasp? How many universes are there??? How many realities???

Dimensional distortions are a regular experience and there are numerous catalogings that substantiate my beliefs. I don't need proof in order to believe, I just know that the realities that each of us lives on a dailly basis is our own little fantasy world. It belongs to us and only us. Oh sure, we share common elements of our realities with our friends, spouses, children, co workers, but in truth, the way each of us looks at our micro universe is unique to each of us. Only in the Natural world is ALL the same. Only in wilderness is the preservation of the human species. So...is Tolkiens world a fantasy world...maybe to you, cause your too wrapped up in your little microcosom, but to me, Tolkiens world IS the natural world, as it once was, and should still be...but "Progress" has squelched that notion and made it invisible. Too much "striving for success" "acquiring wealth" "reaching for the so called ""human dream""

These things keep us seperated from the truth...the more "things" we take as our own...the further we move from the truth. The rift becomes greater, and again..I ask...what is reality, and what is fantasy??? Mutt, your world is uniquely your own. Your rules may not work in my world and I may not understand the "game" in your world, and the same goes for mine to you. So what...You are you, I am me and universes do intersect and then spiral away in their own respective orbits. thats the way it has always been, and always shall be.

Were the mythologies of the norse and the greeks and the romans and the egyptians fantasy...sure seems like it was...some serious "fantasmagorical" stories emminate from those histories...What IF, in the course of Tolkiens research, he did stumble across some unknown and long forgotten mythology of britian? What IF Finn McCool really existed, what IF Zues and Odin truely did rule the other Gods. What IF??? thats the big question...or is it too hard for any of you out there to believe in something that is not substiantiable? There is too much completeness in the writings, too much thoroughness, too much detail...what IF its not a work of fiction...have you never walked through the woods and heard the whisperings of the trees...the moaning of the wind telling tales of bygone days? I have, cause I know that bygone days have happened and that memories of the past are not always forgotten...only hidden. maybe its YOU who have problems and are in need of help...maybe YOU've forgotten the past, but, I haven't. There are powers that are older than the world itself, they sleep, but are still there...they are waiting to be remembered and awoken.

hmmm...rant??? no, just thinking outloud and writing my thoughts...feels right, I think I'll make a peice of toast and have a cup of tea, maybe a bowl of soup...Namarie.

Just having some funnin at yer expense, Sticks. I understand where ya coming from. I used to be big into Pendragon and the boys. I even have a good idea where Excalibur is. Seems like a simpler time when all ya had to do to impress a chick was slaughter a Gold dragon and punch a dwarf in the face.
