It was the run of the mill Alien/Predator type movie and just what I expected. I'm watching Sky Captain tonight.” 8:10:43 AM 1/27/05 “I have to watch that movie.” 8:29:10 AM 1/27/05 “I watched part of Pauly Shore is Dead. frickin' hillarious! He pokes more fun at himself and his career than everyone else does. The plot is that Sam Kinison comes back and tells him to fake his own death so he will be remembered like Sam, Balushi, and Farly were. It has a lot of great cameos too like when Pauly drives by and Rico Suavai is selling oranges along side the road and after Pauly has to sell his house Carrot Top moves in acting like his career could never go down hill like Pauly's. LOL!” 8:32:58 AM 1/27/05 “I miss Kung Fu Theatre...” 8:56:52 AM 1/27/05 “Thinkbubelz & I recently picked up the 1st & 2nd season of "Northern Exposure"... after going to Alaska, we thought it would be fun to watch again (we loved it when it first came out on TV.) **** and yes, I know it wasn't filmed in Alaska **** What we noticed is that the shows seem considerably longer than the TV shows of today.... and, we still find it funny, even now... Although, they probably couldn't have made this show now-a-days, because everyone one of the characters would probably have a cell phone in hand and yakking at their buddies, vs. enjoying some of the solitude, peace and beauty of their surroundings....and being in kind of a time bubble in terms of how people treat each other...It's amazing, though, that Alaskans today are still pretty down-to-earth and super-friendly! We always liked the original cast-- once the originals started getting replaced, we stopped watching the show... It's amazing how few words that Marian would say during an episode, but just her body language and facial expression would say volumes.... BTW-- does anyone know if the Harold & Kumar DVD has any extras? Thinkbubelz & I went to see it in the Movie theaters and wondered how the director would pull off the story without getting ethnically offensive--however, I actually found the characters to be quite funny because they aren't supposed to be foreign, but just 2 American stoners who happen to be Asian American... It's one of those movies that surprises you by going beyond just being silly, to actually being quite insanely funny at times... last edited: 1/27/05 11:35:06 AM” 11:33:55 AM 1/27/05 “Pink - I rented the Unrated version of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. Pretty funny stuff. The DVD does have extra and deleted bits.” 12:23:50 PM 1/27/05 “Napolean Dynamite sweet” 12:32:51 PM 1/27/05 “pink, Northern Exposure was filmed in the town of Rosyln in WA state. They still have the same buildings that were in the movie like the Brick, which was the town's bar/restaurant hangout. I loved that show. The woman that ran their general store still lives here if she is still alive, and Grant Goodeve that played one of Maggie's boyfriend's lives here too and hosts a show called Northwest Backroads. I don't know if you have seen Grant and know why he isn't Maggie's boyfriend anymore. He did meet with a very pecular tragic end, but I won't tell you what it is.” 3:39:32 PM 1/27/05 “how cool... I'd love to go to the actual town and see it in person... Well, we've gone through the 1st season, when she dumped Rick because he had a "growth"... I don't know the actor's name. Are you talking about Ruthann? Was she a local? I understand that the girl that played Shelley was found as a waitress in a restaurant. Have you been to Roslyn? was it really as friendly as the show depicts? I think it would be neat to see what the town looks like today....” 4:32:34 PM 1/27/05 “i wish i couldve seen sky captain while it was at the theater but i was on the trail. nige, youll have to give a report (but no spoilers!)” 4:35:08 PM 1/27/05 4:35:53 PM 1/27/05 “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. On a scale of 1 to 10, a strong 8. From a perspective of the 30's, what will the world of the future look like. With a lot of fantasy thrown in. Gwyneth in the jungle in high heels cracked me up. I must warn you, it is rated PG13 because of "Brief Mild Language".” 11:58:19 PM 1/29/05 “pink, when I drove through Rosyln, everyone was looking at me and hubby and my third eye was hidden by my hair, so I don't know why we got all the stares, lol. Maybe they know each other and know strangers come through to see where Northern Exposure was filmed. The town is just as it was for filming. I hate to say it, but it is a lackluster town. They have some small houses that look like they could be in Alaska, but the real scenery is outside of town and all around WA where they filmed. Yes, RuthAnn is a local, but I'm not sure if she died. I remember her being hospitalized years ago. Rick is Grant Goodeve and he hosts the Northwest Backroads show in WA that is about the NW area. Now when you say Rick had a growth, do you mean the meteor that is now on top of his head, LMAO!!!???? I don't want to give anything away, but it seems like you may know something about Rick and his demise. I don't know any background on Shelly. She must have married and had kids, because you don't see her on tv anymore. I really enjoyed that show and it's quirky charactors. That is too funny that you found that link to their town. The town is just the shops bascially that you saw in the internet site. There is nothing else there to see. I just passed through on my way to somewhere else. I like the Indian woman that plays Joel's receptionist. She always comes out with pearls of wisdom.” 3:01:10 AM 1/30/05 “Hubby says Sky Captain was bland. I think it was interesting the way it was filmed in a weird color, not quite black and white, but not color. It was also a unique story, kind of campy. I would recommend renting it. I saw it in the theater. There is a feature to the film that I won't mention, because it will distract you from the movie itself. You will find out later. It's really unimportant to the movie or for watching it.” 3:05:23 AM 1/30/05 “It was very film niore. I liked it.” 6:07:23 AM 1/30/05 “My wife rented this and we watched it last night, with my kids and my nephew. It was too slow or too scary for the boys, after the big robots, they went to go do something else. I think my daughter and I were the only ones to finish the film.” 9:25:45 AM 1/30/05 “Just watched Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and it was awesome. Highly recommended. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a while.” 10:33:00 PM 2/05/05 “Watched "The Posiden Adventure and Carrie" yesterday. They were great in a campy kind of a way. When they first came out...everyone went to see them. Now they're so tame compared to what special effects can do to movies.” 2:17:27 AM 2/06/05 “just watched sky captain last night. very entertaining. would have liked to see it at the theater .pollys look in the closing frame of the movie is priceless. "lens cap" also watched matrix reloaded again recently. more entertaining the second time around, especially if you pretend that matrix revolutions never existed. what a let-down of a finale.” 7:19:45 AM 2/06/05 “the Grudge OMG i had to turn it off and wait till someone is willing to watch it with me :( it scary!” 7:28:29 AM 2/06/05 “i didnt care for the grudge. like "the ring", it had some truly creepy moments, but unlike the ring, the story didnt go anywhere” 7:41:27 AM 2/06/05 “I went to see The Grudge in the theater and left steaming mad. That movie had no plot. Also, I'm sick of the scenes, in horror films, where it builds up and then . . . THE CAT JUMPS INTO THE FRAME! Yeah, everybody jumped, so what. They couldn't actually scare me so they 'surprised' me. There's a big difference between surprise and scare, and I have no tolerance for movies that only want to surprise me.” 8:07:31 AM 2/06/05 “was there a cat in the grudge? i dont remember” 8:44:01 AM 2/06/05 “well twignut made me feel brave. i got to see all of the movie. I LOVED IT!! I am so tired of slasher movies with the chicks breat hanging out all the time. this was a refreshing movie. scared the bejeezers out of me when that girl came out from under the covers. I screamed LOL Looking forward to the Ring part 2 due out in March. hollywood better not f this up!!!” 10:55:09 AM 2/07/05 “We rented "Dodge Ball" this weekend. Funny, funny film. I watched it with my brother and his wife. At the scene where the Vince Vaughan character goes into the woman's house for the first time, I said, "Oh look, that's what my daughter's house will be like".” 10:58:24 AM 2/07/05 “Funny, Thinkbubelz & I bought the Poisiden Adventure as well, since it was in the bargain bin.... It must be where the director for The Titanic got his ideas--a lot of the water rushing through the ship scenese looked like those in The Titanic.... We recently picked up some old Vincent Price Movies-- The Last Man on Earth and some Edgar Allen Poe Movies.... Kind of funny to watch-- the dialogue is so "stage dramatic" (like in a play) and the special effects and music are just funny to see.... But they are fun to watch!” 11:01:27 AM 2/07/05 “Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!” 12:25:18 PM 2/07/05 “Yep, got The Posiden Adventure for 8 bucks Canadian...something like 4 bucks U.S.” 8:03:16 PM 2/07/05 “Cram it up your cram hole!!” 8:24:55 PM 2/07/05 “tried to watch underworld last night but crappy dvd player in bedroom wont play it. ill watch it sometime in other room. started watching jet li's "the one". the action sequences better be good, because so far its been a bad B movie with good stunts” 8:19:00 AM 2/09/05 “Silent J! You made a good point back there. They couldn't actually scare me so they 'surprised' me. There's a big difference between surprise and scare, and I have no tolerance for movies that only want to surprise me.” Silent J 9:07:31 AM This drives home the differences betwen someone like Alfred Hitchcock and someone who slaps together a horror film on a mass release scale these days. Suspense is not acheived by a single surprise moment...” 8:22:38 AM 2/09/05 “Hitchcock is suspenseful even when you know what's going to happen.” 8:27:33 AM 2/09/05 “True, the guy WAS the master! It was also his incredible perceptions of different camera angles that helped make him great! In Psycho, remember when Martin Balsam was getting stabbed on the staircase. That overhead camera shot was awesome. His use of light and shadow in the B & W photography, too. There was one other thing that was pointed out in a documentary about Hitchcock that I thought was pretty cool. In his last movie, Family Plot, there is a scene where Bruce Dern is driving a car with tampered brakes down a mountain road. They kept showing the road ahead. What Hitchcock was thinking was that, when we drive, we don't notice the front of the car consciously. In movies, you usually see the front of the car going over the road on the way down. In this, he eliminated the front of the car from the shot, giving it a more realistic effect. Now, that's putting thought into your movie! last edited: 2/09/05 8:41:29 AM” 8:34:32 AM 2/09/05 “My favorite Hitch is still Vertigo, even though there's almost no suspense in it.” 8:35:53 AM 2/09/05 “same goes for most so-called "horror" flicks produced in the last 20 years. they cant scare me, so they try to gross me out” 8:37:25 AM 2/09/05 “"They couldn't actually scare me so they 'surprised' me. There's a big difference between surprise and scare, and I have no tolerance for movies that only want to surprise me.” I agree 100%. There’s a big difference between, “OMG I just shlt my pants!”, and two straight hours of, “OMG, what would I do if this were me.”. When a film maker can put you in the frame of mind that you get invested in what’s going on up on the screen it improves the movies so much more than cheap thrills. This is one of the reasons I love M. Night Shamalan. His direction is great and he uses very little music. He makes things so suspenseful to the point you’re just waiting for something to jump out and then he hits ya all sly like. Like in Signs, the one about the aliens. Not really a scary movie but the greatest moment is when he steps away from the TV and you see the reflection of the alien in the screen standing across the room. Brilliant!” 8:41:57 AM 2/09/05 “stanlee, I wish the exchange rate was that good right now! If I'd bought that movie last weekend for $8 C with my credit card, I'dve paid ~$6.50 US.” 9:09:26 AM 2/09/05 “Did anyone enjoy Troy? I love history and found the movie better than I thought..Not a disappointment at all. Who's gonna see Hitch for Valentine's day..?” 9:16:14 AM 2/09/05 “if i see one more riff on how corny white guys are and how smooth black guys are im gonna barf on the rainbow coalition. so no, im not gonna see hitch” 11:12:14 AM 2/09/05 “oh I just see it as people having fun...actually the movie shows the black guy not being so smooth..” 11:16:07 AM 2/09/05 11:18:20 AM 2/09/05 “actually the movie shows the black guy not being so smooth..” true. he goes from being a real smoothie to being a real klutz when he meets a certain woman, so of course you know its true love. goes straight from one cliche to another last edited: 2/09/05 11:26:02 AM” 11:20:26 AM 2/09/05 “Rox1, I saw Troy....liked it so much, I went to the cinema to see it twice. Twigeater, I was exaggerating about the exchange rate. Last year, it would've been true. Talking about Norman Bates....one scene when Norman was walking up the stairs, and his mother was yelling at him from upstairs (his psycho personality coming out) ...notice how he was walking...he was swaying his hips like a woman....that's detail!!!!” 3:40:02 AM 2/10/05 “I finally got to see Shawn of the Dead. What a gas! I generally hate zombie movies because it’s been done to death [pun alert!]. Last night I watched Mr.3000. It was pretty good.” 9:36:24 AM 2/16/05 “I'm sorry.” 9:38:25 AM 2/16/05 “I just rented "Forgotten" it was pretty good.” 10:22:01 AM 2/16/05 “Saw “Miracle” the other night. I liked it.” 10:38:51 AM 2/16/05 “I watched Shaun of the Dead the other night as well. I love Brit movies. Did you watch the extras with the Coldplay "Zombaid" interview? Funny chit mang.” 11:43:41 AM 2/16/05 “renting "SAW" tonight but can only watch it with twignut :)” 11:47:37 AM 2/16/05 “Saw is an awseome movie! I rented it too this weekend. It really puts you in the "what would I do?" frame of mind.” 11:51:14 AM 2/16/05 Jump to Page << prev
