"One film, "Bourne Supremacy" (mostly filmed with a handheld camera) was enough for one year. Made me nauseous 90% of the film.”

I put off seeing this movie for that fact. It wasn't so bad on the TV but I can imagine what it was like on the big screen.

Meet Joe Black, the movie with Brad Pitt, is being shown over and over again on cable right now. It didn't get rave reviews, but I think it's one of the better movies of our time.

Also in the movie are Claire Forlani, Anthony Hopkins, Marcia Gay Harden and Jeffrey Tambor. Claire and Brad are magical together.

I saw the Notebook last weekend and enjoyed it.

I really didn't have a problem with Supremacy. My main complaint with the camera movement is that you couldn't actually see the judo. I really enjoyed the first one. If the idiot who has Supremacy from the library will ever return it then that's the next book I'll start. They're a week and a half overdue.

dayhiker, I can't believe one of the worker's in my library told me that the scanning machine you walk through to get into and out of the library does not work. Anyone can take a book out and not return it as long as they don't actually check it out.

Being the good person that I am, I wouldn't take advantage of that knowledge, even though it would make my library of hiking books considerably larger, lol:)

I just checked online and they finally returned the thing. I have a trip this weekend, so I'll wait until Monday to check it out. It'll probably take a month to read the dang thing.

LH - that almost sounds backwards. In college the books had a charge on them. When you checked them out the sticker was rubbed against something to discharge the magnet or static and you could walk through the gate. If it wasn't discharged then you'd get loud bells and whistles and flashing lights.

dayhiker, people in the library still have the librarians go through the process of scanning the books so they won't go off when you walk out with your book just so that people don't realize that the detecting machine you walk through does not work.

I take books out and scan them myself with the scanning machines that libraries have where you can scan your own book out, but there is no real purpose for me to do it since I can just walk out with the book without the gate (scanner) going off.

dayhiker, I use the library online system. I have a card with a code, so I can go online and put books on hold and have them taken from other libraries and brought to mine.

If you really want your book to be there when you get back, you can get online and reserve it or call the library and give them your info and they will reserve it. I think even if the book is in your library, they may still pull it off the shelves and put it on the holding shelf where books are that were put on hold, because they were taken from other libraries.

Every library is different, but mine gives you about 7 days or so to pick up a book you put on hold once you receive the notice via the mail or internet that the book is there. I get my notifications through the internet, it quicker.

dayhiker, so in your library, do you check out books or words written on stone tablets, lol?

I love using my libary card online. I check out when new books are coming out by my favorite authors by going to their homepages or I go to amazon.com to look up books, get reviews, then back to the library site for putting the books on hold.

I try to time the books I put on hold so that I have time to read them all. Old books will be brought to your library right away. You really have to find out when new books come out before they are in the library, because they put holds on them before the library gets them. If you don't, you will be so far back on the list if it's a popular author.

On one new book, I was 100 in line to get this book and it had 400 other holds on it.

bit, just tell them you don't mean nothin' by getting all this learnin'. You just use the books to prop open your doors in the summer and then you got this table that wobbles and a good paperback under it makes it stop wobblin'. Then that big War and Peace book really helps hold up the end of the bed where the leg came off:)

stanlee, that's cause you Canadian's are smoking too much of that B.C. bud:) This girl I know was visiting her father in FL and they smoked bud together in the backyard one day and I guess she smoked too much, because she fell into the backyard bushes and couldn't get up. I wonder if you can make money off of drug videos if you send them into Funniest Home Videos??? AND THE WINNER IS, girl smoking too much bud and falling into the bushes!!!!!!

There's another round of talks trying to legalize pot...4th one in the last 10 years?

Anyways, if/when we get it legalized....we'll see a whole bunch of American pot-heads roll into Canada for a puff.

Btw, I don't want it legalized....it's a slippery slope. What's next, coke, heroin, ecstacy, sex with children....?
stanlee
11:35:03 PM
2/24/05

stanlee, I think pot is like alcohol, so if a person is against alcohol, I can understand them being against pot. I see no difference. Kids can get alcohol and are smoking pot already. Legalize it and get the tax money. Like alcohol, I think there should be rules, like no smoking in public and no smoking while or before you drive and if you are underage.

I thought I heard that B.C. is opening up a heroin clinic where heroin users can get heroin. That is probably because heroin users will do ANYTHING to get money for heroin. I know there was someplace that opened up where they wanted users to come to so they didn't share needles or use dirty alley water to cook their stuff, but I can't remember if that was in Canada or the U.S. What ever happened to the methodone program?

I know someone that wanted to sell their methodone to my and my then boyfriend. They should make them take that stuff in the clinic where they get it.

I know there is some big pot advocate. He has a website. I'm not sure if he is based in B.C. or the U.S. I think there is an area in CA where you can legally be prescribed pot and buy it for medicinal purposes only. But it's a catch 22, you can prescribe it, maybe buy it and smoke it, but no one is allowed to grow it, not even for medicinal purposes.

You can bet your bippy that us Americans are going to head up to B.C. for bud if it's made legal. They doing it already, probably because the bud is better there. In WA state, a few months ago, they made smoking, buying or selling pot a lesser priority, because they want to go after bigger criminals.

Jeebus Cripes on a bicycle! I saw on CBS\' Sunday Morning Show how all these freakin\' yuppies who watched Sideways are flocking to the wine country to take the same rout as the guys in the movie, stop at all the same places, try all the same wines (\"No goddamn Merlot!!\"), and eat at the same places and feel oh so good about themselves. LOL!

I saw "The Missing" the other night.

(GIVING AWAY PART OF THE PLOT HERE...)

It was just ok. Didn't realize it was going to be an alien movie, so that was a disappointment, and there were a few holes in the plot.

Still, I cried when she got her son back. I am such a sap.

On another note...I liked Bourne Identity a lot, haven't seen Supremacy.

Nigal, I don't doubt that people are drinking certain wines, because of the movie Sideways. That was an excellent, funny movie. It only played in my indie movie theaters, then when it won a Golden Globe, it was in regular theaters and the indie theater brought it back or just never stopped playing it, because it's still there and I saw it months ago.

For anyone that has gone to wineries, it will bring back fond memories. I went to Napa and Sonoma and it was a lot of fun going to vineyards and having wine tastings.

i wouldnt say that mdb glorified euthanasia. it was one event at the end of a string of events. it was a choice that a character in a movie had to make, for right or wrong. remember, just because a character did something in a movie does not mean they (the moviemakers) endorse it.

watched an odd indie film last night called "The Last Wilderness" filmed in Scotland I believe. Not too bad. My wife is used to hollywood fair and was aghast over the brief male full frontal nudity. There were some other oddities too, but isn't that why we watch the independent movies, to get something else besides the stale stuff hollywood puts out?
