I'm hesitant to mention it again, but if you want to see something really cool, check out Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

The plot is sorta lame but the animation is just awesome. I’m hesitant to mention it because the last time I did, I got a couple of people who tried to suggest that Princess Mononoke was a comparable piece of awesome animation.

Now, I like the Japanimation stuff and all that, but the two movies aren’t remotely about the same kind of awesome animation. I haven’t seen the latest one, but I will. It gives me all sorts of bizarre ideas about the future of movies.




I haven’t seen much lately that really impressed me but there are two that I think are worthy of recommendations:

Mirrormask is just too cool. It’s like an acid trip put to film. Of course I’m just guessing here having never tripped my brains out on Orange Sunshine, Mr. Natural, Purple Microdot or anything like them.

Another movie would be Paradise Now. Munich was OK, but Paradise Now was a much more subtly powerful movie.”

“Princess Mononoke, while very good, doesn’t even come close to Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children looks even more spectacular.

Mirror Mask is one I have to see. Weird man. Very weird.

Two of my all time favorites is The 5th Element with Bruce Willis and Brotherhood of the Wolf.”

“This week I watch a movie called The Matador with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. Brosnan plays a drunken, burned out hit man and Kinnear plays a desperate business man. It was a good movie with a good plot.

I haven’t seen much else because my wife still has the Netflix que clogged with Gilmore Girls.”

Like how 4,000 Jews mysteriously didn’t show up for work on 911 in the towers. I thought this stuff was something the lunatic fringe believed but their were people from all walks of life and every social and political level that believe this stuff.”

“Man, I’m really digging this 30 Days show. it's done by the guy who made Supersize Me. I watched one where they sent a fundamentalist Christian from West Virginia to live with a Muslim family in Dearborn Michigan. They sent him into Howell (That’s where Dhutch lived) dressed as a Muslim to ask people for signatures for a petition against racial profiling. Hilarious! Another one sent a Christian from Michigan to live with a gay man in the Castro district of San Fran. And another one sent two suv driving, city slicker New Yorkers to spend 30 days on an environmental commune. This big bald dude from the Boogy Down Bronx was out there eating tofu and greens to the point he was out shooting rabbits with a pellet gun just to get some meat. LOL!

It’s really interesting to see how these people change and grow over the 30 days.”

“OMG!!! I am watching a movie my kids picked out called Mee-shee. Essentially a helicopter crashed in a very deep lake somewhere in canada and loses a drill head that an oil company must have in order to start drilling on some land somewhere or lose their rights to the land. A dude with a deep submersible is hired to find it. This dude is being helped by the local indians. A loony from greenpeace with an armed submersible is trying to stop them and actually tries to kill the "loch ness monster' type creature living in the lake (Mee-Shee).

((hahahaha) the greenpeace dude just shot a rocket launcher at the Meeshee and the ship the search sub is based on)

Anyhoo, the indians and mee-shee are all trying to help the dude find the drill bit for the oil company .”

“Ok, don't worry. the Meeshees killed two greenpeace workers and an innocent helicopter pilot in a huge explosion. Then the submersible dude decides to toss the drill bit back into the lake so the oil company loses its lease.

Another happy ending”

Because… in keeping with typical Hollywood tradition, I saw V.

As is almost everything created in Hollywood, it was mediocre.

I may have enjoyed V, but the stomach churning force feeding of Hollywood propaganda just keeps pissing me off. Who is the bad guy? He’s a “conservative” politician who also happens to be religious. OMG! NOW THAT’S AN ORIGINAL HOLLYWOOD STORYLINE.

Then there’s the totally unnecessary homosexual side issue, just in case we forgot that Hollywood represents homosexuals about 5 million times more than they are represented in society. We must be force fed the typical Hollywood agenda that homosexuals are loving individuals just like everyone except for evil “conservatives.”

Hollywood is a very sick, and mediocre place.”

“I enjoyed V much more than I thought I would. The advantage of low expectations. Because of the mask I kept expecting him to break out in song ala Phantom of the Opera. I'm glad he didn't, but he came close.
Portman's lack of acting skills almost made her character believable.
All in all, very watchable.

The logical extension of most “conservative” thought is anarchy. The logical extension of most “leftist” thought is totalitarianism. So how come, every time the folks in Hollywood create a totalitarian villain, he’s a “conservative”? In fact Hollywood keeps flipping it’s political phiolosophy so that almost every bad idea is “conservative” whether it’s “right-wing” or not.”

EVERY totalitarian regime in the 20th Century was "leftist." They all advocated abolition of private property for the collective good. They all believed in strong centralized government. Hitler's party was socialist.

Even religious fundamentalists advocate these ideals.

Although I find I am moved more by small budget independent type films, I like big budget hollywood movies for the sheer scale of the production, cool sets, huge explosions, etc, and don't really care what their political slant is. On the other hand, if an actor uses his hollywood personna to push a political agenda in his personal life that I don't agree with (ie: Sean Penn talking about WMD at the oscars, tim robbins and susan serandon stumping for kerry, etc), I do choose not to spend my money to see their film at the theaters. I'll just wait for it to come on cable where I am already paying for it whether I watch it or not.”

“There are so many great small films out there that never even get a chance. Lion’s Gate Films is a good production company that has a lot of good small films and films from over seas as well. But at the same time I loved Pirates of the Carabian II which is wall to wall eye candy.

I found a real gem of a film called Rory O’Shea Was Here(also known as Inside I’m Dancing). It’s about two wheelchair bound young guys who advocate for themselves and get out of the facility they are living in and it goes through what they have to go through in living on their own with disabilities.”
