I've been curious about Hidalgo. I heard the actor bought that horse after shooting was finished.

That's what the trivia page on IMDb says. But it also says they had five horses playing the role, so which one did he buy?

I wanted to see Hidalgo until I found out that the guy that the movie is based on, made all of that up. He claimed that the Oceans of fire race had taken place every year for a 1000 yrs. Yet there is no record of it. At the time of the race he was in there was a British fort at the starting point. You would think that a military commander in charge of a fort would make a note of a hundred Bedouin warriors showing up out side the walls peaceful or not.

techntrek, re 2ndhand Lions, why 8+???

to understand the plot?, just curious.

I saw Big Fish and LOVED it - great movie, cool story, good message, etc - things are not always as they seem.

I almost rented Hidalgo the other night, but opted on the Coen Brother's "The Man Who Wasn't There", starring Billy Bob Thornton. Great movie. Very dark and highly entertaining.

Secondhand Lions
There are some plot points that might be really disturbing to younger kids, like a mom basically abandoning her child, plus there are some moments that would scare a small child.

Roam - yes. I think there is a little too much in the plot for a 4-year-old to get much out of it, plus they probably shouldn't see the fighting.

William H. Macy is great. He played in that tv movie that I think was based on a true life story of a slightly mentally or physically disabled door to door salesperson.

I saw Cooler too, pretty good.

You want to see a great movie, well, sorry, I can't remember the name, but I do remember that it was a David Mamet movie with William H. Macy. If you like him, you will love this movie. It was great. It was basically a movie with him and this other girl, and to keep a movie going with just two people is pretty damn good. I would love to hear from anyone else that may have seen it.

If you look up David Mamet movies, you will find this William H. Macy movie.

Okay, I have nothing to do tonight, so I looked it up. The play/movie is Oleanna by Mamet. Then I found that Macy studied under Mamet.

If you go to IMDB.com, you can get movie star bios there amongst movie reviews.

Rented "Bubba Ho-Tep" last night. Anybody else see this? It was okay, not uproariously funny, but amusing nonetheless.

This weekend I saw Taking Lives, Laws of Attraction, and Twisted.

Taking Lives-

Great thriller even though I think Angilina Jolee is a skank of the highest order. Great plot twists.

Laws of Attraction-

A romantic comedy which I usually hate but it was good.

Twisted-

I’m tired of the Ashley Judd detective character. And generally sick of the tough girl cop characters all together but this movie has a good fairly good story even though the end is so predictable.

Bonus review from Mrs. Nigal:

Dogville w/ Nicole Kidman-

“There’s 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back.”

I saw Taking Lives also. I could've done without the pregnant scene at the end. I guess they had to do that, but it made me want to wretch. She is a skank fo shizzle, but the love scene wasn't half bad.

We also watched "Cold Mountain" and "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" about 8x. My son loves anything that resembles martial arts.

The Reckoning-

This was a cool movie that takes place in the 1360s in England. A fallen priest hooks up with a troupe of bards and find themselves in the middle of a murder mystery and they dig for the truth. It’s got Milam Defoe in it and he did very well. The plot was great. The acting great. And the props were great. If ya like this one get The Name of the Rose with Shawn Conerey. Another great one.

I just saw "Taking Lives". The first 15 minutes was good, then it took a big dive. The concept was good, but they didn't do anything with it. Hubby wondered if those were Jolie's real lips or if she had collegin injections, but those are her real lips. I've never seen her without them, lol. Really, she does have big lips.

I don't know if I would call her more a nut than a skank. Yeah, she wore Billy Bob's blood in a vile around her neck, but what made her a nut is that she was interviewed by B.Walters and admitted to cutting herself. You know, those people that like to make cuts into their skin.

Now that is pretty bad, and someone let her adopt a kid awhile back, but the child was Asian, so maybe she got the child directly from Asia. I can't imagine any agency here letting her have a child with her background.

I think even Barbara Walters looked upset when Jolie said she cut herself, because you want the actress to say things that will be big news, but at the same time, I think what she said was more of a private problem, not to be shared with the public.

Booked two days on the coast in a hotel, and it's going to rain, but I do have a portable dvd player.

I'd like to ask for suggestions, but I've seen practically everything mentioned here and then some.

I didn't see that "Fish" movie everyone mentions, but it sounds too mushy. Should I rent it?

I see most good movies in the theaters, then rent the half good half bad dvds.

Nigal, I'm kind of scared to ask what your wife meant by that statement she made. I almost rented Dogville, but when I saw what was going to happen to Nicole Kidman, I opted not to. What did your wife mean?

Then there was that "scared...." boy movie, but I'm not sure if it's in dvd to rent. It's foreign. The townspeople hide this kid in a bldg for ransom. It took place in Italy.

Big Fish
was pretty good. Definitely got a mystical feel to it. I didn't think of it as being "mushy"....

Nigal, Harold & Kumar was NOT like Dumb & Dumber (I hated that movie).

I guess the producers also made "Dude, Where's my car". Kind of a stoner funny movie.... gotta see it if you get a chance...

"Nigal, I'm kind of scared to ask what your wife meant by that statement she made. I almost rented Dogville, but when I saw what was going to happen to Nicole Kidman, I opted not to. What did your wife mean?"

She said it sucked bad. A lot of the indi films are hit or miss. It used to be if a big star was in a movie you could bet it'd be a good one. Not so now.

Big Fish was a great story. Have you seen Second Hand Lions? Great flick! I saw some nice trailers the other day. there's one with James Woods called Northfork (or something fork) where they are suite wearing thugs in charge of moving a whole town out of a valley the power company plans on flooding. It looked good.

Northfork was a very strange movie, and I like strange, but I don't think I can recomend it.

1/2 thumb up.

Now, Big Fish, that was strange AND really good.

2 thumbs.

Taking Lives, Ok thriller. My wife and had the killer picked in the first 5 minutes.

1 thumb.

Thanks Nigal/Nav/Pink.

I should really rent out Boondock Saints again for my trip. I really hate to do that since I rented it out already, never got around to watching it and even paid a late fee. I will check into second hand lions.

I did see the indie film "lost in translation". It got rave reviews, but it was mediocre.

Mediocre is being too kind. It sucked. The only reason it got great reviews is because of who directed it. the direction wasn't even that great IMHO.

I had trouble watching Hidalgo because I already knew the story was not historical and a sham. Let's see, what have I seen lately?

Alamo- Turd alert! Even Billy Bob couldn't save this one.

Walking Tall- Basic revenge movie but the fighting was raw and uncoriographed.

Saved- irreverant and funny as hell.

The Day After Tomorrow- Watched 1/2 hour and gave up.
