Best DVD Rentals

“The one bright spot of the movie was Javier Bardem. That guy was just spooky. I felt the movie got all dressed up to go somewhere and then it drops you off in the middle of nowhere scratching your damn head.

I did see that Javier Bardem is playing Pablo Escabar in Killing Pablo based on the book by Mark Bowden who also wrote Blackhawk Down.”

About half-way through no country for old men I got the feeling that the movie wasn't heading for Hollywood Blvd and it was probably going to end up badly for everyone lol.”

“Southland Tales. This was written by the guy who did Donnie Darko. This movie was even worse than Darko. Complete waste of time.

Twin Peaks is out on DVD now and I'm watching the first season. I never even saw the show when it was on TV. Very good IMHO and I generally hate David Lynch's stuff.”

“gotta new born at home so i've been watching lots of DVDs...let's see:

No Country for Old Men and American Gangster - Both great films with amazing casting.

Death at a Funeral - Normally I do not like British comedy but this one was pretty funny.

Martian Child - Very heartwarming. Was afraid it was going to be cliché but it turned out nicely.

Also picked up the 6th season of Scrubs. Aside from the current season my collection is complete.”

i didnt like american ganster though. i found it incredibly boring, and could not get involved in the story line whatsoever. but maybe i need to give it another chance.

and one more, because this was the longest winter EVER. across the universe. i dont know how i forgot about that but it was Excellent. AMAZING, in fact.”

“i'm a fan of the gangster genre...i think a lot of those films are boring and hard to follow if you don't like the genre...i also saw his true story on the history channel and that made it a little more interesting as well”

netflix is a good deal providing you keep your queue updated...i've wasted a little money in the summer...never wanted to watch DVDs

For me, Goodfellas is my favorite of the gangster movies. Donnie Broscoe is right up there too. I've watched all three Godfather movies and I wasn't all that impressed. The first one was good, the second one was OK but the third one sucked.

I also want the complete Sopranoes on dvd.”

“I just saw Harrison's Flowers. It was excellent. Anyone else seen this? About a woman (Andie McDowell who was great in it) who goes to look for her missing photojournalist husband during the Yugoslavia war. Has Adrian Brody in it also. It was pretty brutal but really gripping.”

“I saw Serenity at the movie theater before I knew about the firefly series. It was great and stood on its own just fine. Since then I have watched the entire firefly series, in the order it was supposed to air, several times. They are great too. My girls and are great fans of both shows. Their screensaver for the longest time was a Farewell to Wash memorial type thing.

Like I said above. I have watched Serenity many times.”

The first 2 were new releases, and the other 3 are movies I've seen but wanted.”

The reason I ask is because I ran into a guy in my home town who said he was part of that company too, and showed me a bunch of pictures, and some of his memorabilia. But after the movie, I'm sure there are lots of folks who "were in that exact company". I'm just wondering if this guy is full of it or not.”

“Yuma was pretty good. I had read a review that it was a bit depressing, but the acting was so superb that it made depressing good.

I likes No country for what it was. A shoot em up without much redeeming value :).

Inigo Montoya: [He falls on a table. Rugen attacks and Inigo blocks four times before he continues to advance on Rugen]

Count Rugen: [Now Rugen attacks five times and Inigo blocks every single one]

Inigo Montoya: [Rugen attacks and Inigo blocks it and then stabs Rugen in the shoulder. Then Rugen swings his sword. Inigo ducks and stabs Rugen in the other shoulder. Then he advances quickly and they fight] Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father prepare to die!

Count Rugen: [Rugen gets his sword knocked away and Inigo slices his cheek] No!

Inigo Montoya: Offer me money

Count Rugen: Yes

Inigo Montoya: Power too promise that!
[he slices Rugen's other cheek]

Count Rugen: All that I have and more. Please.

Inigo Montoya: Offer me everything I ask for.

Count Rugen: Anything you want. [Rugen attacks but Inigo grabs his arm and stabs Rugen in the stomach]

Inigo Montoya: I want my father back you son of a #&%!$.
[Inigo plunches the sword into Rugen's gut and he falls down dead]”

“is the Kite Runner appropriate for my worldly 12 and 14 year old daughters?”

“I haven't seen the movie but I wouldn't let them read the book yet. It's pretty brutal and sad.”

“My 14 yo is a freshman in high school. I would think a realistic representation (as opposed to gratuitous violence) of regimes like the taliban would be appropriate for her world view. The 12 yo is the one I was really concerned with. She probably wouldn't want to see it anyway.”

“Kite Runner was a great movie and is OK for 12-14 year olds. It has lots of subtitles but it was still good. Much better than No Country.”
