Last night I watched Before Sunrise with my daughters. We loved it. I've watched it many times, but i forget how funny it is.

This weekend was raining and dreary so we watched a lot of movies.

West Side Story - My daughter is a big Romeo & Juliet fan (not particularly that crap put out recently with DiCaprio, but the 1968 version by Zeffirelli). She has a book with the original play as well as the play for West Side story. So we rented it and watched it. I was surprised that my younger daughter watched the whole thing with us, too. We all enjoyed it and it was cool to hear them say from time to time, "Oh, thats where that song comes from" (ie, maria singing "I'm so pretty")

Night at the Roxbury - My daughters liked the superbowl commercial so much I thought I'd show them where it came from. They laughed, they groaned, they shuddered with revulsion to see Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan in thong speedoes. It was a fun movie.

Leatherheads - I didn't get into it more than 15 minutes before I had to take it out of the player. I am just not a clooney fan, I guess.

In the Valley of Elah - I knew this was an "anti-war" film but the main reason I waited so long to watch this is that it had Susan Seranden in it and I decided a while back that I wouldn't reward her highly visible political statements with my money. So I waited till it was on cable. Turns out she has a very minor role in this movie. I enjoyed the film. It was very well done and the acting was pretty good. I took it as an indictment of war in general rather than the anti-iraq statement they were going for. Every war we've ever taken part in has had callous behavior by the soldiers taking part in it. I imagine we were pretty bad to the English in our revolution as well as the germans in WWII. I would have liked it better if the movie hadn't tried to act as any returning Iraq veteran could have acted the way they do in this movie, but I like the way the plot unfolded and the guilty were discovered. All in all a good film.

We also went to see a current movie She's Just Not Into You since Slumdog Millionaire was sold out. As a man, I say this movie was slightly amusing with some very funny parts. Listening to the women in teh theater laughing their asses off I have to say it was probably much funnier for them.

We rented the two Chronicles of Narnia movies last weekend. I enjoyed them which surprised me because I despised the books when I read them a bunch of years ago.

I've not been a big Will Farrel fan, But Night at the Roxbury was on a few months ago..on TNT or something. It was the only thing on so we watched it. OMG!!! We rolled with laughter through the whole thing...I did about throw up with the thong scene...

I still want to see Step Brothers. I have heard it is funny as hell....

we went to see Slumdog Sat night. There were more people in the theater than we have seen in months...(movies have become our thing the last several months) really good movie. Can see why it won all the awards. Can't believe it didnt get more commercial play before the awards..

I watched Step brothers last weekend. I didn't laugh out loud once. There were some amusing parts, but I guess I have become immune to Will Ferrel. sad really, since I watched Night at the Roxsbury a few days before that and laughed my ass off (I'm still finding pieces of it in the couch).

A movie I did laugh very loudly to last night is Role Models. Two dudes have to serve community service in a group like Big Brothers. One kid is a precocious black boy with race issues and another is a LARPer who dresses in a medieval cape all the time and has no friends at school. this movie just kept getting funnier and funnier.

The late great Jimmy Valvano once asked a ref if he could call a penalty on him for what he was thinking. the ref said no. Jimmy said "well then, I think you stink". the ref called a penalty on him. You just can't trust those guys.

Its not a must see movie, but its not a steer away from at all cost film either. If you only watch a very few movies then I would say pick up something else. It is a bit long to watch at home. We saw it in the theater so the landscape shots on the big screen balanced the too long length of the movie.
hyway

It is long! And the story is just barely good enough to keep one's attention. I bet the theater screen made the film. Seems like it would've been a good one to see at the show.
All I know is I want more of King George and less of Mrs. Boss.

Just watched an Irish film called Once http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907657/

"A modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story"

I enjoyed watching this. I love when something you never heard of turns out to be well worth watching

Rory O'Shea is an awesome movie. It will leaving you laughing through your tears. Having a special needs son may make me a bit more biased, but I think its a must watch film.

Yes, she is gorgeous (not rory, the girl in Once). Almost angelic.

I finished Australia. It reminded me of an old movie, from the angles of the shots to the way the credits rolled.
It was pretty good, just moved too slow! It would've been better in the theater.

I was watching the Simpsons tonight. They were in Ireland and they had a scene they crafted from the movie Once. that reminded me that I had recorded the movie, so savannah (my daughter) and I just watched it. Right now she is downloading all the music and singing her heart out. Funny thing was that as she watched the credits she pointed out to me that the lead man and woman were just listed as Boy and Girl. I didn't even notice that they never used names in the movie. Before that I thought the music was the third main character in this film, but now I realize it is the leading role.

Watched MArley and Me, Seven Pounds, and Slumdog Millionaire last weekend.

Marley and Me- It was OK. I didn't think it was really all that.

Seven Pounds was a good story but it was poorly executed. I knew the story before hand so I knew there was a pay off at the end. Had I not known the story I would have turned it off half way through.

Slumdog Millionaire was everything everyone said it was and more. I want the sound track too because the music was great.

I saw an awesome documentary I downloaded for free at iTunes. Truth in 24. A film team followed the Audi teams at the 24 Hours at La Mans race. Jason Stathom narrated it. It was really well done and keeps you interested the whole time.

I have to say that from the second the DVD went into the player I was not excited about The Watchmen. The whole super hero genre is so f@cked out. But this movie turned out to be one of the best movies of the year. It's everything Crash said it was and then some. The fact that it was actually a movie for adults was great. The writing wasn't stupid simple and over linear and the direction was amazing. Great pay off at the end too.

I'm watching this one again if not buying it.
