I keep wanting to get a bluray player, but if streaming is the future, why not get something that streams really well and skip the player itself?”

From what I've heard Netflix is already preparing to go diskless and just stream content. My wife and I use the Wii to stream NF but have bought a Roku. It streams a ton of stuff including Pandora, UFC, Imax, Netflix, Amazon, NHL, UFC, NBA, MLB, Hulu Plus. We got it for the Hulu plus. Paid $99 for the Roku, $7.95/month for the Hulu Plus. Worth it IMHO. Eff you Time Warner! 8)

... speaking of ... Netflix has the V series.

I forgot about the Wii. I heard the resolution is bad though. How does it look on a HD TV?

I was originally enamored with Vudu because of $2 rentals for 2 days....but after looking through their catalog, that's only for certain movies.

It sort of sounds like I just need to get a Roku and wait for Netflix to do more streaming.

I wonder who will emerge as a competitor for Netflix when things go all out for streaming?

HPD - I've really enjoyed the current V series. When I watched the first one, my wife gave me the eye roll. This last one her main comment, was, "awww, we have to wait 2 wks for the next episode?" That's sort of how it all played out with Big Bang Theory too. She says she lives with 2 Sheldons.

I'm watching V: The Final Battle, the 3 part mini-series on Netflix. It's amazing how similar that is to this new show.

dayhiker - Wii is standard-def only. Netflix can't go all-streaming just yet, too many people out there that can't get high-speed net @ home. I'm one of them.

I'm a huge fan of V, the original mini-series and TV series. Somewhere I have a screen-play for one of the TV episodes that I bought in the early '90s, plus the comic book series. I own the DVDs for the original mini-series (both) and I've been slowly working through the old TV series through Netflix. I'm still not 100% sold on the new TV series, but as long as they don't go balls-out hokey and give the new "star child" magical powers I can live with it. That BS is my only major complaint about the old V.

At one of my homes, I have very fast cable internet.
At another, just dialup.

It really sucks to switch between the two. ;-)

I'd be interested in the Roku player if it had a dvd player as well. I have maybe 5 movies in my streaming que with Netflix and maybe 30 in the DVD que that are not available in streaming. Maybe streaming is the future, but the future is not quite here yet...I will buy a $30 walmart DVD player and wait on the streaming player for now...

roseymonster - lol, not so much. Those are the only comics I have ever purchased - and even though I've had them for nearly 20 years I've never read them! The rest of what I said? Yeah, ok, got some geek in me.

It looks fine to me but I'm not too picky.

We got the Roku hooked up and there is so much more than i thought on there. The Amazon streaming looks cool and the movie rentals are only $2.99.

I finally watched Amelie today. It's one of those movies that just kind of wanders around with little purpose and at the end you feel like you've had a pleasant walk.
