There were definately some key items missing. But I dunno, "the lord of the rings" shows it is possible if you get the right people on board.

30 minutes into Potter III they show the snow melting and it's spring. Sure sign that things are coming to a head. They didn't use the map enough. I did enjoy the time sequence where they exist in twice. Pretty cool. It's been probably 4 years since I read the book, so I was a bit hazy. That might be a good one to re-read.

other previous library dvds
whale rider: a good movie, quietly poetic, although i dont see what the fuss is about castle-hughes's performance. like lost in translation, you have to change your expectations of what you should get from a movie to be able to enjoy it.

triplets of belleville: that said, even my tastes dont run to the bizarre far enough to recommend this movie. im not saying i didnt like it. i liked certain sequences, especially the opening musical number, but as a whole it was defineitely an odd duck

monster: charlize theron earned every bit of praise she got for her performance, and christina ricci was dynamite also. its too bad the makeup artists did such a good job, otherwise the makeout scenes would have been HOT! i dont agree with a serial-killer being portrayed quite so sympathetically, especially since the actual truth probably did not agree with key events in her downward spiral, almost to the point where you feel the movie is almost trying to justify her actions. overall, a good movie despite minor quibbles

I with you guys on Harry Potter 3. I thought they cut way too much out.I also don't care for the guy that plays Dumbledore now. I think they should find someone else. I don't thiny anybody could do the part as good as Richard Harris but someone has to be better than that dude.

dayhiker-- thought the same of White Chicks--- thought it would be silly (and it was)... they did a decent job, though!

HP3--I haven't seen it yet, but I am guessing that since I haven't read the books yet, it should be good-- sometimes it really hurts to know the plot of the books BEFORE the movies....

I'll probably read it afterwards.

Saw The Day After Tomorrow last weekend. WTF was with the scene with the wolves? It had nothing to do with the plot and really didn't add anything to the movie.

Harry Potter III was good, but I didn't read the book. You people have to stop reading the books if you want to enjoy the movie, lol. I never saw a movie after I read the book, but I can only imagine the movie would not do a book justice.

Saw Lost in Translation. It was a let down. It had gotten rave reviews as an independent movie. Rent this when you have rented everything else in the store.

HPM... they could just do like they used to with Gone with the Wind... have an actual 15 minute intermission.....

Doh! I forgot-- they WANT you to leave the theatre and miss something, so that you will want to go back and see it again!!!

BTW-- I saw ROTK 2 times in the theatre and for some reason, I had to run to use the restroom at about the same place in the movie each time..... Must be some subliminal thing...LOL

I was about due for a reread of Lonesome Dove. HPIII might get the nod though. My only real problem with the movie is that they just didn't have time to develop the characters. The movie was 140 min, so there's not much else they could've done.

I wonder how it'll be with new characters? It won't be long and those kids will be too old. Heck, they're already too old. They look about 16, but HPIII takes place as they're supposed to be in about the 8th grade or so.

This weekend I saw...

I Robot- This one really surpirsed me. I didn't think I'd like it because I expected all action and no story. The story was great.

Colateral- I like Cruise and I like Fox. It was an ok movie but it's a Michael Mann film. Slow and a bit long.

Dodge Ball- Laughed my ASS off through the whole thing. Front to back funny as hell. The Ben Stiller character was too over the top and unlikable. I didn't find him funny in the least.

The Borne Supremecy- Loved it. I didn't care for the quick cut scenes but the camera work was not as bad as everyone said it was when it came out. TV's different than a big movie screen though.

I know I posted something about I Robot and Bourne Supremacy, but it's not here!!!

I Robot was pretty good, but I don't think it was great. I didn't care for Bourne Supremacy at all. I loved Bourne Identity.

Gee, Nigal, between my reviews and yours, I feel like Ebert and Roepper, lol:) Loved it, hated it, lol.

On a side note: I just saw Lemony Snicket and it got rave reviews from critics and yahoo users. I was falling asleep through it, and it seemed longer than it was and it was a short movie. I wished I had on what I call my movie watch. It has a face that can light up if you push in the dial. I would have been checking the time through the whole movie in disbelief thinking my battery was running down. The movie was slooooow.

I think it was pinkbubbles who asked if I'd been reading the dictionary when I used the word 'cabal'. Made that line in the movie all that much funnier. It was the little thing that made me laugh in that movie. Like when the geek raised his hand to ask a question and Patches said, "Queerbait?". LOL!

I'm getting ready to the video store now. Last week there was about 20 standing outside waiting. This being a holiday weekend coming up it'll be worse. I'm gonna be fighting, biting and scratching like a woman turned loose in the panty section the day after Thanksgiving. Wonder if I should wear the headgear?

Nigal, dude, you're not using your noggin.

When you get to the video store, if it's all full, just stand in the door and yell "There's a copy of The Bourne Supremacy in the parking lot!" and get out of the way. Then you should be able to browse the new videos at your leisure.

As Nowslimmer would say, "I pulled a real boner today.". I got there late and the line was already to the back of the store. I saw a buddy in line and I said, "Damn! Don't you people have jobs?". I felt bad because there might have been someone in line out of work. Sometimes I just can't controle my mouth. :(

I got King Arthur, Nepolian Dinamite, Surviving Christmas (groan), and Shaun of the Dead.

Nigal, I just ate at The Sizzler Restaurant. I love that place. I think it was $8.99 for the salad bar that has everything you can imagine, plus soup, fruit, dessert, and a taco bar with everything on it.

Back to movies. I just canceled my Netflix. For anyone that does not know what it is, you pay a flat fee of $17.00 and can have 3 dvds out at a time and order as many as you want each month.

I canceled it because I found that I only rent 2 movies a month, because there just aren't that many good movies to rent every month. For two movies, I can pay $1 or $2 in my grocery store or $3+ at Hollywood video. For $7., I can watch all the good movies out for the month. Paying the $17. for netflix just made me rent out movies that sucked just because I paid to rent out a lot of movies.

I saw "House of Flying Daggers" last Sunday...I was disappointed. It's more of a "Romeo and Julliet" movie than a martial arts movie.

The fight scenes were not as good as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or "Hero". I use these two films for comparison because all three of them use "wires" to make the actors "fly" around in some of their fight scenes.

Scenery and costumes were great, but the big battle between the government soldiers and rebels (last part of the movie) was not shown (they had the soldiers sneaking thru the forest into the rebels highout).

I'll give it a 6 out of 10.

And responding to above; I hated Bourne Supremacy (too much shaky movements), hated Collateral (the story was so simple), Liked Bourne Identity and I, Robot.
