Try one of those glare screens that go over the monitor..

Is there a lot of glare on the screen? If so, get some sort of glare shield.

If it seems to flicker, increasing the refresh rate should help.

Is it slightly out of focus? That can also make your eyes hurt, trying constantly to focus on something that's out of focus.

i think it might be glare related - the screen is quite bright and I have an overhead florescent at an angle to my right but shadow to my left - its really hurting my eyes

I don't know if adjusting the brightness will help...increasing the contrast some might though.

Just wait until your eyelids start twitching uncontrollably. That's a fun one.

Does your company have a policy against dating company lights?

Get it drunk and turn its lights down low for a romantic evening...

I sit in front of a computer all day writing software (ok, I only work about 2hrs a day but don't tell anyone) and I had a regular monitor for years...ya know...the kind with a tube. That dang thing killed my eyes. The glare was terrible.

I just recently lucked my way into a new computer here at the office and I got a flat screen monitor too.

WooHoo!!

It's about dang time...I've had a flat screen at home for a year now and it rocks.

First stop, the computer help desk. Odds are they can help out, either by adding a grid screen to your flourescent fixture (a half inch by half inch grid of plastic that eliminates all glare by directing the light straight down, or by tweaking your monitor, or else just replacing it. Remember, these guys are techies, and a little flirtin' will go a loooooong way.

Second stop, if need be, HR. If your eyes are hurting after only a single day with a new screen, something is seriously wrong.
