Sorry Twig! I just got back from the land of Mickey and it appears that i am not receiving e-mail. Hopefully I will get it later today.

I was getting nervous.

The weather looks great for the trip. Lows in the high 30's for Patten. do you think it will be much colder at Baxter?

I am going to bring 2 30* sleeping bags That will fit inside each other. That is unless I find a good deal at REI on a 0*.

Anything else special to bring? Liquid refreshments?

Baxter always seems to be a little colder. :)

Bring plenty of layers, depending on how cold you get, a hat and gloves/mittens, and some fleece. I like layers of microfleece.

I'm bringing either Peppermint schnapps or sambuca to drink.

Can't wait!

Yeah I think it will be Sambucca weather! Have you ever tried Cafe Negra? It is an espresso flavored Bucca.
Got plenty of layers to bring!

I can't Wait! I really want to see some Mooses!

I haven't tried cafe negra, sounds good!

I tried wintermint schnapps this weekend, but it was kinda lacking in schnapp, LOL...have you tried that yam?

Did you know when you add ice cubes to sambuca it causes little surgar crystals to form?

Wintermint schnapps?? I've never seen that.....the name reminds me of Dentyne. LOL!
Did you mix it with anything or drink it as a shot?

I've never seen it either, but thought I'd give it a try. Thought it might be close to wintergreen, which I prefer over peppermint, but it wasn't. I also bought Vanilla Liquer by the good doctor at the same store - never seen that before and haven't tried it yet.

I don't mix it with anything. Sometimes in winter I mix the peppermint with hot chocolate. Got any good drink recipes? Should start a thread on that, LOL...

Twig --

I wil use my email to you as the basis for a trip report.

To further clarify the snow situation.

Chimney got 4 inches. There was nothing onthe ground at Roaring Brook. As we climbed S. Turner there was some snow in the woods just before tree line, and between the rocks onthe way up the slide.

The next day (Friday) the snow had melted off significantly.

There were only trace amount and MUD until we ahd hikedd up the Saddle trail for about a half hour from CP. Plenty of snow had collected in the slide section of the Saddle trail. Some drifting to two feet or so. But the trail itself had been pounded out and was compressed snow and ice on slippery rocks.

The rain started at 12:00 noon on Friday . . .and it was raining at elevation. From the top of the slide on Saddle down it was hard rain. Ideal conditions . ..upper 30s and rain!!

NOt sure how much icing is actually left on the cake!

I started on this forum when I was trying to get back into backpacking and trying not to carry too much weight. Lt = Light. My first hike back this spring I carried about 45-50lbs for a three day weekend. My last hike I had it down to about 19lbs. I am hoping to be around 20-25lbs for this weekend.
Since we do not need a shelter, although I am thinking about throwing in my tarp just in case.

That's what I thought.
twigeater is what the Algonquin's called moose.

I have a really neat moose video if you want to see it Thursday night. I saw a very small part of it being made, and it's the best one I've seen. I showed it to the lovebirds and they enjoyed it.

I also saved ya some moose stew from the last batch, I gotta remember to get it out of the freezer. It has deer heart and liver in it as well.

LOL TT, Moose stew, that won't make them mad will it? Heck I'll eat anything once. Sounds good Twig.

Hey do you recomend a filter or chemical treatment for the water?? Are we going to be drinking out of ponds or springs?

I knew you'd get me on that one Mr Blue Long Johns! =D

LtHiker - I'll be using iodine tablets (I don't' have a filter) except where there are springs (if I can find 'em) and running water. I usully treat pond water. We are on water all the way, so that won't be an issue.

Cool I will just bring my drops, instead of carrying my filter. I like the drops for weight but I am more confident of the filter where the water is murky or really questionable.

Wahoo! finally a log-in by the Almighty himself! You will live without that exclamation point, that's just a chicken excuse and I know it.
PS - You know I love it when you talk dirty, LOL! ;)

Stider, I did find a recipe, but I was looking for your recipe in particular. Would you mind posting it again or e-mailing it to me, please?

That video is on my Christmas list! PBS showed parts of it during the pledge drive and it is very good. If you ever come to my bed and breakfast Bruce Almighty! (no breakfast, but I sometimes serve dinner, LOL) you can see the best moose video I've ever seen. I got to see a small part of it being made.
