LOL dave & mtn... I was just thinking I should have said... Californiais 7th dumbest and counting, since this data was probably collected before the recall.

It's got to be humiliating for both parties. What's more embarassing, that Arnie is the shining hope the Republicans - or that neither of the Democratic guys who figure in this (Davis or Bustamante) can inspire half as much confidence as the Hollywood groper does?

Interesting Florida ONLY placed 40th. The rankings include a variety of factors, but it's interesting to note that based soley on graduation rates, Florida is dead last.

i dont get it.....
when the people come up with the surveys covering the SAT and rank states on that does no one but me notice that yes even though GA is close to the bottom for average SAT score we have over 60% or HS seniors taking it...while there are quite a few states that only have not even 20% taking it...its not that GA is dumb its just that we actually encourage people to test themselves...

Estimated Pupil-Teacher Ratio in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools (Table 371) -
Average Class Size in Public Elementary Schools (Table 394) -
Average Class Size in Public Secondary Schools (Table 395) -

I could make up a similar survey and I guarantee the Southwestern States would be on-top and New England would suck.

e.g. Total box-office gross of your governor + Tax dollars saved by illegal immigrants + health care cost + Workman's Comp paid + number of bilingual residents.

In my survey the statistics would show acreage without trees. Average bushels of wheat produce each year.
Average weight of wife.
Per capita white foreheads at church as a result of wearing a cap that has a logo associated with seed brands.
Tractor horsepower.

Put that in your survey and smoke it!

Phil: You are absolutely right in pointing out that the stats need to be taken with a grain of salt. They are a mix of political spending factors and legitimate measures of educational acheivement.

This is why I posted the basic outline of the formula used and added: ""I'm not taking it too seriously - but I figured it was worth a few yucks (and besides it makes my state look good)."

Bobby: I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.
Waitress: A #2, chicken salad sand. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?
Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.
Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?
Bobby: I want you to hold it between your knees.
