Summary: Dogs on the trailView Messages“people suck! :P” 8:38:46 PM 5/13/05 “People who think dogs are people suck. Some people lack the social sophistication to compete/interact with other humans. They get a dog. A dog can love unconditionaly. Humans can not.” 8:50:22 PM 5/13/05 “I have a small Lab mix (3/4 lab, 1/4 border collie) and I have trained her over a gazillion patient hours to walk beside me on the trail, to not chase animals and to be very obedient. I never thought she would be this good. No doubt, the best I've ever had. Things I do not do with her... Take her on busy trails Take her on group hikes Let her bother anyone elses outdoor experience I treat her waste as I do my own. I make sure her impact on the resource is not seen and I respect other hikers. No harm, no foul.” 7:53:54 AM 5/14/05 “I don't mind dogs on the trail. But please keep them on a leash.” 7:56:24 AM 5/14/05 “Hey bacpac! Do you gave a dog? Your wrong about humans can not love unconditionaly. If and when you ever find you a companion in your life time and ever get to experience AGAPE love, you then will have upgraded yourself to us dog lovers. Agape----look it up!” 8:10:39 AM 5/14/05 “Dogs on the trail, are like kids on the trail. Some are well behaved, others are not. Should we ban kids from using any trail system if they have a negative impact on it? I enjoy seeing a well disciplined animal on the trail with its owner. I understand the joy the owner gets from having the dog along, and I know that dog is lovin life cause it's outside goofing around with its owner.” 8:31:54 AM 5/14/05 This Debate Will Go On Forever.....And Even Longer “To be quite frank... Humans do not belong on the trail. We are dangerous to the environment and wild life. We poop where we camp and dirty our drinking water more than any other animal. WE should be banned from any wilderness areas and parks...keep our dirty filthy selves at home in the living room, please! ;P last edited: 5/14/05 9:05:46 AM” 9:04:19 AM 5/14/05 “Yes, the debate will continue on because some people want the wilderness all to themselves and will complain until they get it. Luckily, I've begun training my dog to crap in peoples boots on command.” 10:11:14 AM 5/14/05 “A dog can love unconditionaly. Humans can not. - bacpac bacpac, I love you unconditionally.” 10:29:17 AM 5/14/05 “Summary: Some people like to have dogs on the trail, but I think the prep time is too long. Try freeze dried stuff from Mountain House or Enertia instead.” 3:27:14 PM 5/14/05 “I am almost to the point of not taking my dog on trails anymore. It just may not be practical for an inside dog. I don't mind giving him a bath when I get back, its expected, but the ticks have become an issue. He gets so many that I literally spent hours last night picking them off and still found them inside this morning. Granted most are dead and fall off from the frontline, but others that don't bite him fall off alive and can get on me and my daughter. I am torn though, because he has such a blast. Maybe I can find a less tick invested area to take him out? Anyone else havet this issue” 11:32:09 AM 5/16/05 “Maybe just take him during the winter? It's hard to find a place that doesn't have ticks in the summer.” 11:39:15 AM 5/16/05 “right now's a bad time of year for the ticks. mine will prolly stay home for a while. good reason to get out on a river.” 12:11:16 PM 5/16/05 “Just make sure the dog has his shots for lyme etc. TopSpot works pretty good for tick control...” 12:18:19 PM 5/16/05 frontline and topspot... “this from a full time year round user who takes his dog out all the time. If you use the topspot religiously each month every 30 days, it works best. the chemical is absorbed through the skin, but then transmitted to the haif folicals. So, if a tick even comes in contact with the hair, its dead meat. Even if they are on for a short period of time, it has contacted the hair, where the chemical is present from the base of the hair, to the tip. according to the mfr's..."no tick can survive which comes into contact with the dogs hair". I encourage Khatru to pick up as many ticks as possible. They all fall off dead. I've never seen a live tick in my house...lots of dead ones...no living.” 8:18:09 PM 5/16/05 “Stikmon, title confused me. Are you using topspot instead of frontline, or in conjunction? It sounds awesome. With frontline, my dog had lots of ticks latched on that died later. If its in the hair like that, how hazardous is it for humans? A 19-month old hugging the dog?” 9:19:31 PM 5/16/05
