Weather string
Use some string instead. Cheaper and more reliable.

If it casts a shadow, it's sunny.
If it's wet, it's raining.
If it's moving around, it's windy.
If it's stiff, it's cold out.

Well, my thinking is that $150 months gets about two months of DTV complete package, including College Football.

With that setup, the interactive Weather Channel is free.

Learn to read the clouds, sequence is clear and cold (low to expected), cool with feathers (climbing to too high), rainy and gray (climbing higher), storms (max elevation), clearing and windy (dropping), repeat.

In parenthesis are what your altimeter will read in each phase, as compared with your known altitude.

For tactical (short term and local) predictions, a cheap AM radio tuned to the bottom of the band (530 mhz) will signal all lightning within about 120 miles, and tuned to the upper end of the band (1710 khz) will signal all the lightning you'd be able to see if it were nighttime plus about 20 percent that's out of visual range. Precheck sensitivity during approaching storms at night before you leave to adjust for differing receiver sensitivities.

Save the hundred fifty for more beer.
