Arnold’s hands are tied. California’s constitution allows referendums (read tax dollars) to be voted on and enacted by the general populace. Any special interest group with enough money or marketing savvy can get a referendum passed. A Democracy works best when the elected representatives control the purse strings. I know that is not a popular concept among the idealistic pinheads who speak the loudest, but California is a perfect example of why allowing the people to handle the checkbook does not work.

California is the richest State in the richest country in the world, yet they cannot pay their bills. The State legislature should act as a transformer (sorry for the electrical reference). All the ideas and money come in one side and the best ideas and most cost effective (hopefully) come out the other side. The legislature has the resources to evaluate, investigate, and mitigate special interest requests. Joe Schmo says, “That sounds good and it does not cost me a dime.” Well it does cost a dime and much more.

Arnold’s greatest legacy would be to change the State constitution and put the checkbook back in the legislature.

Having said that, Tim McClintock was the obvious choice. Arnold and California are screwed.”

“bacpac, i agree tOm mcclintock was a better choice but i don't agree that people are not capable of running government. davis was corrupt. that's his provlem, that's cali's problem.

thomas jefferson once said he would rather be governed by farmers than by scholors and i agree. the founders had in mind that peopel from all walks of life would serve a couple terms and return to regular life.


the liberal press has predictably kept the pressure on arnold and , like in iraq, will only report the BAD news about cali from now on. they will stop at nothing to see him fail. they sat on bad stories about davis and tried to make arnold out to be a hitler lovin sex fiend. he'll never be able to work with the dems in the legislature, hes stupid, he's inexperienced....on and on

i liked what arnold said when asked how will you deal with this legislature. he said they heard the people today, loud and clear...the people voted for change, and they will do it again if hte dems don't do the people's work.....they voted for change...
