HPM,
Thanks for the tip. I removed a few some weeks back, but I just saw all the new ones.

Thanks for screwing up the thread tech ;)

I've contacted my advertising company to remove that ad, so it can still take a few hours to remove it from their system.

Matt, haven't seen that ad lately, thanks.

Something to look into when you are bored - the italicize button where you post a message is one pixel shorter than all the rest.

Which two? There were four names of which I was aware. And there could have been more. My guess is that he reached Matt's limit of names and needs to release two in order to get a couple of new ones.

I'm sure that he will work it out OK with an e-mail to Matt, if that is what he wants. I doubt that he needs our help.

Very correct. While I almost slipped a few times, resisting the urge to post can be accomplished. Once you make it through the first couple of months, the rest is gravy.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Hey matt, are you trying to discourage Fuego use by making TT where the Fuego Box will not stay checked?

If I go to another website and return to TT, Fuego is unchecked.

Matt - The Polaris ad at the top is delaying and preventing the rest of the screen from appearing. I have to stop the Internet communications and refresh the screen, sometimes several times until a different ad is at the top. Then TT finally arrives on the screen.

Matt - When I do a search on "GSMNP," only the first of the following set appears.

2002 GSMNP - 1. Index & Links
2002 GSMNP - 2. Introduction
2002 GSMNP - 3. Pre-GSMNP
2002 GSMNP - 4. Pre-AT Hikes
2002 GSMNP - 5. Backpack Contents
2002 GSMNP - 6. Food
2002 GSMNP - 7. AT Hike
2002 GSMNP - 8. Post-AT Hikes
2002 GSMNP - 9. Back in Florida
2002 GSMNP - 10. Summary
2002 GSMNP - 11. Photographs

The links in the first segment to the other segments do not seem to work. At least, I tried to get to segments 5 and 6. They will work, but only after I change the "999" to "-1" for the age in the url. Without the change I get error messages.

FOR THE SUGGESTION BOX
Since I work in the software industry and I know software companies are always looking for new ideas to improve their products and services...

Trip page enhancement requests for the coordinators of trips:

1. Provide for an optional "trip maximum" on each trip. Once a certain number of people sign up as "yes" people can then only sign up as "maybe" and can not change their status from "maybe" to "yes". This will help on trips where there is a group size on a permit, etc.

2. Provide functionality for a trip organizer to eject a person from the attendee list. This may be needed to clean up a list since people often sign up as "yes" but don't confirm.

3. Enable the email attendees functionality to permit attachments to be sent.

4. Provide a way for trip planners to upload larger images as maps. Right now I have to find a way to host my maps on separate web sites because the photos we can upload get shrunk to where they can't be read.

5. Provide way to email "yes" attendees, "maybe" attendees, and "all".

6. Provide a way for a trip organizer to "lock" a trip so people can't join up. This would provide something between a public trip and a private trip. Right now it's either totally secret or totally public and it would be nice to have an option that is mid-way between these two.

7. Add an "ask attendees to confirm" where they get sent an email and if they don't click on a link or return and confirm you can remove them from the list.

Just some ideas. These are not complaints. The trip page is one of my main reasons for hanging out on thebackpacker.com

:)

Why not just state the max number up front and say the trip's full after a that number signs up?

on the grand canyon trip last year, i made it very clear that there was a strict limit to the number that could be on the permit, and that preference would go by who confirmed with me first (they had to let me know they were sending their share of the permit fee to be considered confirmed). i had no problems

Exactly! A simple statement of the limitatiion in the trip plan seems to have worked well up to this point. Why change something that works, especially with so many alternatives?
