Louisiana Kisatchie Hills Trip
Short notice but if you don’t have any thing better to do on these days then come join. If you want to come then I will meet you at the Backbone Trailhead, on 10-17-03 around noon. I’m flexible so if you want to go then let me know and I will work with you on the time and place.

Above the bayou you'll find some of the most unique topography in Louisiana, unusually steep and rugged terrain with flat-topped mesas, sandstone bluffs and outcroppings, and distinct forest ecosystems. The Backbone Trail follows ridges above the bayou and gives access to three shorter trails. Along the southern border, the Longleaf Vista Recreation Area offers a scenic overlook of the Wilderness. Most of the Wilderness lies within Red Dirt National Wildlife Management Preserve.

Easiest Access: From Alexandria, LA, go north and west on Interstate 49 to the Derry exit; go south on State Highway 119 for 5.5 miles; turn west onto Forest Service Road 59 for 3.2 miles to Longleaf Vista Recreation Area; continue one mile past the recreation area to the Backbone Trailhead.

I have been told that this is a very nice place but I have never been there. I am looking forward to it.

A Louisiana Hike has been on my list of wannados for a while. This sounds interesting. I couldn't make it until late Friday (if at all).

I have to check mileage from Memphis. If I could swing another three day weekend, this would be one I would definitely do.

Put me down for a soft maybe until I can research this a little more.

Pumpkin I hope you can come. I'm looking forward to this trip. I need to get away for a few days and am hoping for some nice country. If you need more info you can email me. I'm not sure what time I will get to the trail head but it will be around noon. There are allot of TTrs around your area maybe you could get with one and share the trip. Just an idea.

In looking at my schedule for the remainder of the week, it is very doubtful that I can make it.

I look forward to the report. This sounds like a great winter hike opportunity.

BTW, pumpkin36 is the Halloween handle.
