Help! “Calling all the Florida TTers.... Birch, Abby and I are coming to Florida just after Xmas and want to see some of the everglades, dayhike style. We'll be in the FT Lauderdale area. Any suggestions?” 11:16:22 AM 10/15/03 “There is a really cool park in downtown Lauderdale where they have natural lagoons that you can canoe in, and trails all over the place. I forgot what it was called.... my ex and I went there often when I was in town. Abby would love it!” 11:22:24 AM 10/15/03 “Hmmmm. Maybe if I do a search on Ft. lauderdale parks....” 11:24:19 AM 10/15/03 “I'll ask around as I'm not up to speed on South Florida.” 11:31:08 AM 10/15/03 “My brother lives there. I will check with him.” 11:44:03 AM 10/15/03 “Thanks all! (I love TTer's)” 11:49:01 AM 10/15/03 “Hey Buddha, was it Snyder park?” 11:51:39 AM 10/15/03 “Cool you'll be in Ft. Lauderdale! My Grandma used to live there. Damn, I'd like to say I'd come down to meet up at some point, but that's quite a haul for me. The Everglades are beautiful. Don't know where exactly I could recommend you go.. I've only been there a couple of times, and it was a long time ago. If you've never seen gators before, you're guaranteed to see them there. Also, a good family friend SWEARS he saw a "Skunkape" there. A skunkape is basically a bigfoot that lives in Florida. He allegedly was sleeping in the back of his pickup (w/ topper) and in the middle of the night, he was awoken as his truck was being shaken violently. He looked out to see a large, hairy creature jumping up and down on the bumper. He said it was huge, like eight feet tall, and go a pretty good luck at it. He says he even looked it right in the eye, and didn't like what he saw. This guy is pretty level-headed also, he's not bullsh--ing when he tells the story.” 2:48:46 PM 10/15/03 “Sass - all I remember is that it had lagoons that you could canoe on. It also was practically in the middle of downtown, and the land of some former hot-shot in town. I guess the dude donated the land, and now it is the only preserve left in the Fort Lauderdale Area.” 4:23:32 PM 10/15/03 “Ooops, thought this was a thread about the World Series.” 10:44:51 PM 10/15/03 Alaska made a... “funny...haha” 10:51:32 PM 10/15/03 “BB, I bet it's snyder. It seems to be the biggest one and has some sort of canopy walk and lagoons to canoe in.” 11:24:29 PM 10/15/03 everglades nat'l park “need advice: i'll be in FL for a week to see the parents, i hope to do some camping. all sites in the keys are booked, but flamingo campground in the everglades is open. is it nice? worth camping there? which sites should i stay at? thanks for the info.” 5:28:18 PM 3/07/05 “Flamingo campground is a huge open area. Huge I say. Depending on the time you are working with, you may wish to hike from Flamingo allng hte Coastal prairie Trail to the Clubhouse Beach Campground. My map shows that it could be 6 or 7 miles to the west. If you wish to canoe... I think you've got to make reservations for canoes early in the morn. Take lots of bug juice, the stars twinkle only because there are so many mosquitos flying around.” 6:56:25 PM 3/07/05 “Birds, birds and more birds. You're many miles from any civilization, but in an interesting area. Alligators, crocodiles, raccoons, other small animals and birds, birds and birds. Food, boat and canoe rentals, campground, open camping area and a few hiking trails. Literature should all be available on the Net(google). 7-11 type tourist store with ice cream, coffee and more, two restaurants, ranger guided canoe trips, ranger talks, etc. Motel and cabin rentals, too. Might be a few mosquito serenades. last edited: 3/07/05 7:14:43 PM” 7:12:57 PM 3/07/05 “Nowslimmer, those aren't birds, there bugs!” 8:35:57 PM 3/07/05 9:03:49 PM 3/07/05
