Yeah Twig how much mulla!

Artex I fell Like I already know you after hearing all the stories from Pennsy. That and wearing your face mask, then burning you in effage.

Wearing a mask of someone and then burning is a ritual of family-like acceptance in Viking culture. We'll have to top it off by drinking mead and singing praises to the ghost warriors who roam the halls of Valhalla.

Perhaps she's preparing mead for our trip. Or making us Viking hats.

I think I'm a go for this one!
Anybody flying in?
Want to split a rental car?

I'm a thin blooded Southern Boy so y'all will need to give me some pointers for Maine camping.

Is it true those Maine people talk with a funny accent?

StoveStomper, very cool! I'm flying in to Portland, but am arriving a day early to take of "the thing" and hang out with a friend. Pennsy is going to pick me up the day of the trip and drop me back off in Portland.

BTW Pennsy - lunch/breakfast is on me for being so kind as to pick me up. Dude, four words: Augusta House of Pancakes.

How far from Portland, ME
is the start of the trip? I'm just looking for an estimate of driving time and miles.

~3.5 to 4 hours I think... The Mainers here would know better.

Heck, if someone could pick me up in Portland that would be great.
I will need to rent snowshoes or skis somewhere if the snow requires and get alcohol but other than that I will be ready to hit the trail.
The last time I tried flights into Portland the only times I could fly in were late in the day. I will probably fly in and get a room near the airport and catch a ride or rent a car the next day.

Thanks, Artex. As we get closer to the time, I'll need directions from somewhere on 95. Stovestomper, I'm sure someone should be able to pick you up in Portland. It just kind of all depends on the timing. It'd looking like around a 7 hour drive for me.

Hidy-ho!!!
=D

I just got home from a 3-day Fugowe tour, LOL...AND in between booney stomping I checked out the Matagamon cabins - cool! Thing is they are $20/night, not $15, but they are still the cheapest in that area.

I don't know why I chose those particular dates, but my organizer is at work - I can check when I go back on Monday, and if you guys want, I can try to move the dates a little. Last year there was plenty of snow in the woods the last weekend in March. The good thing was the roads were clear.

Viking hats, yes! Acually I was thinking more along the lines of toga party - whaddya think? Combine the two? ;)

Money can wait until you arrive for the trip. It will be $72 - eeek! Sorry it's so much.

Everyone is welcome to stay at my house the night before the trip. We can drive up the day we're staying at the cabin and go into the park to hike Horse mountain or something.

Portland to my house is 1-1 1/2 hours, from my house to Patten is about 4 hours.

I LOVE MAINE!!!

oops, $76, I can't freakin' add...
anyway, let me know if that's a problem and I'll see what else I can figure out...we definately want the cabin for the post hike bash though.

Hey, $76 is plenty fine with me, especially since Artex is buying.

Hey Stove Stomper!

So glad you're coming along! I have alcohol (for your stove right?) and you can reserve snowshoes from LLBean over the phone and pick them up on the way.
twigeater

Eeek! Try not to move the dates if at all possible. I already reserved the time off from work, and will get my plane tickets in the next few weeks. A lot of people are planning to take off time at my work in March, that's why I reserved it off so early. But if something changes in the next few weeks, I will probably be okay.

Togas and Vikings? Nice! Interesting contrast between ancient civilized Greek culture and barbaric Nordic culture. Someone in a toga can start to recite Plato, and then one of the Vikings can tell him to shut up, hit him over the head with a turkey leg, and pour mead on his head.

HIKE MAINE!

I just spent two days trying to figure out what was wrong with my tv and/or cable, come to find out the channels all changed. Course I got a notice in the mail about it, but who reads mail from the cable company.
Just a little extra gripe thrown in for your reading pleasure.
