Corrupted Compactflash card help

“I just downloaded FILE RESCUE PLUS..and it's doing what looks like a fat16 scan disk and is pulling thumbnails of every picture that was ever on this card..but the demo will only let me recover 2 pictures..i was reading online that some windows utility would recover these pics also with a type of scandisk..and someone mentioned chkdsk/f earlier...can someone help step me through this..there are about 50 gorgeous pics from tc3 on there, and 20 from the Conecuh NF”

“Yes, as barbaric as it sounds, I've been using chkdsk/f to recover jpg files from compactflash cards for our Nikon Coolpix 990.

I started getting errors a couple of weeks ago trying to recover pictures from the memory card.

To recover the jpg files I went into MSDOS and ran a chkdsk/f. This captured the files as .CHK files. From there I simply renamed each .CHK file back to a .JPG file and the pictures were restored.

“capn bobo...i read while looking for my fix that the nikon coolpix digi cams get an error in them after awhile...and there is a patch that you upload to the camera via usb cable”

“Thanks Opie! That's was going to be my next question to throw out there, because I haven't found the solution to this problem.

I've been experiencing this prob on two different compactflash cards and also getting a "system error" on the camera when trying to review the pics on the card, sooo I was looking in the direction of the camera's software.

And now for the $1 Million Dollar question...
