OK - LadyHiker is coming to California and I want to show her a good time.

What I can do is a day hike on Sunday in the general Sacramento area. I am thinking of one of the following hikes: Carson Pass, Dardenelles(?) Lake, Loch Levin Lake, Grouse Lake area.

Any takers???

I sooooooo wish she had come earlier or was coming later. We just can't get away.

I found a great-sounding Carson Pass hike in my hiking book. Woods Lake TH to Winnemucca Lake to Round Top Lake -- "gorgeous volcanic scenery with views of The Sisters, Mount Round Top, and Fourth of July Peak...... incredibly dramatic." From the east side of Round Top Lake, you can pick up use trails and summit Mount Round Top for even better views.

Have lots of fun.

I'M IN!!
As long as I get picked up from the airport and Peppergod and Phaedrus give me their new addresses and take the block off their phones...

Wannabp - Are you positive you can't get away? Try harder!

Rockman & the Mrs. - WHERE ARE YOU???

Hodge - come on down!

Free - Do we get to see you and find out the REAL story??

Is it this Sunday Oct.19th? If so, what time were you thinking?

The hike that wannabp mentioned is a great one. Matter of fact - July is the time to hike it if you want to see the hills profuse with wildflowers...fall colors are gorgeous too!

I can prolly go depending on what time we start.

How early? I live in the Modesto area, but I'll be coming from Monterey on Sunday early AM.

If people want to do Carson Pass we could probably be at the Ranger's Station by 10:30ish. I think it takes about 3 hours from my house (damn, that makes for an early morning). Phaed - we can talk carpooling tomorrow.

LadyHiker, it's just that it's a 4-5 hour drive for us to the Sierras at the closest point, not practical for a day hike.

Can't think why you would prefer Point Reyes, living on the coast as you do, but Point Reyes is only an hour and a half from us...........

Wannabp - I NEVER get tired of the ocean! I walk/run the cliffs, beaches whenever I get the chance here. Hiked the Lost Coast last year and it was awesome too. Point Reyes, of course, would be on my list! Hope to see you when I'm down!

PepperGod - Since I don't have a car to help carpool, I'll just have to sleep on the way to Carson Pass (I'm sure I won't need any after Saturday night??
:-) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I'll be on vacation anyway.....

Heading home soon to pack!! (Don't want to be too prepared!)

Which campground would you go into at Pt Reyes? Is that where jvz wants to go? The California coast is different enough from the oregon coast that LadyHiker should have a good time.

I'm trying harder.

I just learned that the aspens are in their glory RIGHT NOW. The leaves will have all fallen to the ground when Landscaper and I head over Carson Pass in early Nov.

So I called him (God bless those cell phones) to see if he wouldn't like to head that way this weekend instead......... He didn't say no.

Pepper, could we sleep in our car in your driveway Sat night if we did come? And then could we all hike Carson Pass Sun and see the aspens?

You betcha, baby. We will be going into Sacto to dinner that night. Email me at annieb@davis.com and give me your phone number if you want to make arrangements. You should try to come early enough to go to dinner in Sacto with Phaedrus and company. I think we are aiming for 6:30 for dinner.

Wanderer - ditto what everyone else said about the floor thing. Please join us for dinner if you can't hike on Sunday, though. Bring the Mrs and we will try to be on good behavior.

Gojo - All the way from Halloween through Christmas???? You got big plans, doncha?

I would be glad to work out some cool hiking while you are in the area. It would be fun to see Belle and Gizmo again.

So, are you going to Carson Pass or what? If so, and it is the one on HWY 88/89 I'd love to go.

I talked with Phaedrus this evening. It sounds like the Carson Pass, where the PCT crosses 88. That is where I'll be at 10:30. I'll check this in the morning for any potential corrections before I head out.
See you tomorrow!
