It starts tomorrow night at 7:30.

It looks like a good one.

The Fish are for real, as Cubs, Giants, Phillies, and Braves fans can attest.

The Yanks have to win for Joe and Popeye.

I reckon the Yanks will win.

It would be way kewl if the Marlins stopped 'em though! (or at least took 'em to 7 and extra innings like the BoSox did)

Not only are the teams pretty much evenly matched, the managers are both low-key unruffable guys.

The yankees make me and any other true baseball fan want to hurl. They have the payroll of like 3 teams. What a joke.

Baseball is bought and paid for people!

The argument is old, BB. And leaves out several important elemnets. You can spend all the money in the world and if the chemistry isn' there, the players are not going to win. I am not sure of numbers, but I am guessing that the Braves, for instance, have spent some money on their team and can't seem to be able to win the big ones. The Mets have bought some big money players, but can't seem to put it together either. Sorry, Bud. But the argument only goes so far!

It’s not about the money it’s about the Yankees. If the Red Socks had made to the series no one would be talking about how they bought their way in as the second highest paid team in baseball.

THat's my point. Steinbrenner is directly responsible for lifting the salary issue to ridiculous heights years ago. But, the nature of the sport is high money entertainment and more of a business than ever. But, it is in no way restricted to the Yanks anymore...

Except you have nothing to do with this purchase. You just happen to live in a big market with the rest of the socialist. Get off your high horse the Yanks are over ratted and should be a hell of a lot better with the payroll they have. Just like backpacking you feel a great sense of accomplishment from taking the hard route than taking the easy one.

umm yes we do, just check out what the cost of tickets and beer and food and parking costs.

it cost an average 150.00 to 200.00 for a family of 4 to go to the ball park.

Lets put it this way Tree. The Yanks are on the top of the food chain on this one. They may not be the only team associated with high salaries but they are the top spenders. At least there are some real teams out there still and competing with these over priced players.

For years and years, The Boss shelled out big bucks and had very few American League titles to show for it, much less World Series wins.

The years when he was barred from running the team were lean years with big payrolls.

The keys to the current team's success seem to be Jeter, Williams, Posada, Clemens, Rivera, and Boone. They pull the rest along. Jeter is an animal at short. Baseballs just aren't safe around him.

I may hate the Yankees and all they stand for, but that is because they are so damned good, and have been for about a decade.

And Georgie Boy seems to have let Torre pretty much run the club. If they have a need, he digs into his pocket and buys it.

Last, while other owners break up championship teams to save money (ala Connie Mack and the Philadelphia A's), Georgie keeps the good guys around and just rebuilds around them.

Yes, money is involved, but it's money spent wisely.

But I still hate the Yankees. The Mets were pretty nice this year. It was fun watching them.

Overpriced tickets for overpriced players. Why you would pay that much is beyond my belief. As I see it your part of the problem. So raise your head high you must feel proud!

Ok, had to take UU off ignore for a minute to be able to keep up with what's being said here. All I can do is reiterate that the top spender will not necessarily dominate. You talk about payroll for players, right. Are you aware that a lot of what goes into making greatness is what's done off the field? Let me clue you in on one thing in particular. Have you ever heard of those guys known as scouts? The ones you never hear about. The Yanks have some of the best scouting people in the business. And nobody has even mentioned the coaches and managers. Are you aware that their work is an integral part of making a machine like that run? Apparently, you overlooked things like that.

And, in conclusion, how often have you seen a top player go from one club to the other and subsequently go from top of the heap to suck player in the course of one year. Bobby Bonilla comes to mind, for one...

I can see if thier team was home grown, but the yankees spending is outright cheating!

1.) They outbid most teams to get the top home-grown players of other teams.
2.) Small & mid-sized market teams can't keep thier stars, and on top of that have to shell out big bucks for mediocre players due to the fact the Yankees are paying big bucks for guys who actually produce.
3.) When home-town free agents hit the market, small and mid-market teams can't retain them, becuase the 5-6 other big spenders in the league have to shell out huge amounts of dough to keep the Yankees from taking them.

It's a vicous circle, and to be honest, I can't see any of the yankee's world series wins in the past 10 years as legitimate.

Buddha. The statistics thing is great on paper. But, it means nothing on the ball field if you can't put it together. You can't by chemistry. Cheating? C'mon, man. You are brighter than that! That's a stretch. Florida spent 1/3 and they are playing right alongside the Yanks. So, what do those numbers mean? It means that the hungrier players will endure...
