Me, Belle, and Giz did a Long Trail overniter near Manchester in fall 03. Rain rain rain. It was GREAT!

Week or so later we did the Whites with Ski. Belle and I snowshoed there winter 2001, Cats, too.

Pennsylvania - where boots go to die... Did a hike there with Pennsy, et al, a few years back. Dayhike with xc skis & shoes with the wonderful AmyG Xmas 2001. PA is beautiful!

TT hikes:
(Too late to join - we done did'em!)

Montanapaloosa 2002 -
Aero pulled a rabbit out of the hat. The best organized TT hike ever! Awesome scenery. Do the Beartooths before you hang up your hiking boots.

Lost Cove, NC -
Ghost's annual appearance. This one will likely happen again - join up!

Ocala NF, FL -
I did three of the five - totally regret missing the two. I vote that HPM and TB move back to the Sunshine State!

Brooklyn, NYC.
If for no other reason, it takes you to Manhattan!

Arland D. Williams Memorial Bridge, DC.
Named after Air Florida flight 90 passenger that drowned while saving several passengers' lives in the ice cold water of the Potomic.

LaKiva
Terlingua, Texas
(the illegals used to go out the cave entrance when the place was entered by law enforcement)

FloraBama
Florida/Alabama State Line
(I am sure it lost a little of it's character after it was blown into Georgia, but where else can you drink in two states simultaneously?)

Our county lesbian bar, before it burned down, was the Tongue n' Groove. Missing nary a lick (pun), they've already set up shop in their garage.

Nimble hopefully no one was hurt in the fire. Don't know about a Lesbian Bar, but I hear that the Gay bars really are safer in the event of an emergency. Apparently all the patrons can get out fast because they already have their Sh*t packed.

The Shanti in Gunder, IA (and have a famous Gunder Burger while you're at it)

The Mint in Sheridan, WY... I went in there alone... not advised during Rodeo Week - and you're female (or perhaps even swing the other way). It's a saloon from back in frontier days...

I mentioned the buttfalo because it helped me come to grips with the lack of distance perception that comes with the treelessness west of the river. I was awed by the endless grasslands.

"the treelessness west of the river"

So you've got that "west river"/"east river" concept of South Dakota down then. ;-P

Sculptures:

1. The Enchanted Highway from I-94 to Regent, North Dakota.

2. The cherry in the spoon in a Minneapolis park.

3. Yeah, how about that Big Rider on a Big Horse, ummm, aka Crazy Horse sculpture in a mountain between Custer and Hill City, SD? There's a 10 K volksmarch up onto the outstretched arm the first weekend in June every year.

#3 Crazy Horse blah blah blah...

Screw'em. I drove up to get a closer looksee and the pimply girl in the kiosk wants nine bucks! Screw'em.

Go that first weekend in June and cost is minimal. I think it's free, but maybe $3 for the Volksmarch association day membership.

Well, hey, remember, they are building all that stuff - AND making an eventual center for Indians (I'm thinking a school, too). Gotta make money somehow. We, the general public, are not being taxed for it PLUS paying an entry fee like in our parks.

(;-P this opposing viewpoint courtesy of lizs ;-P)

1. seneca rocks
2. cranberry glades
3. new river gorge (US19 bridge)

driving between these you will see a lot of gorgeousness of that state. :)

"Other" Bridges

#1 Linn Cove Viaduct
Along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, NC. The most complex concrete bridge ever built. Was built to spare Grandfather Mountain the damage associated with cut-and-fill road construction.

#2 Iron Mountain Road
Black Hills, ND. Road features several "pigtail" bridges (and tunnels). Pretend you're in a dogfight with the car ahead of you :)

#3 Seven Mile Bridge
Connects the Lower Keys with the Middle Keys, FL. Why drive it? Because it's the land route to the Conch Republic!

Big Creeks

#1 Mississippi River @ US Hwy 2, MN.
Actually a creeky/swampy conglomerate crossed by a couple/three bridges - if memory serves.

#2 Flint River Headwaters, GA.
Where a big pipe comes out from under ATL airport. Lots of huge, loud planes passing low and lower. Not for the faint.

#3 South Fork, Big Creek, Lemhi Range, ID.
Two day stroll to it's headwaters in an Alpine bowl below the saddle to Sawmill Canyon. Iron Creek Point looms overhead at 10,000-plus feet. Unknown treasure.
