Pinhoti Trail

“does anyone know if its been extended from 95 to 130 miles yet?

is there any kind of shuttle service available? what about services, mail drops, etc

anyone hiked it, have any comments about the trail?”

“Here's a guide which is a little dated and covers only the older sections of the trail.

I've hiked part of the Pinhoti through Cheaha State Park and it's not too bad, but it was one of the easier sections. There are some shelters on the trail.

In depth trail guide from an individual that has hiked the whole length of it multiple times. Also, he posts regularly on the above mentioned message board. People sometimes use the Pinhoti as a test hike before doing the AT.

“It is at the Abalama Walkin Woods.
It got good trales. Watter is skeerce some times at drowts.

There aint no bares soposobly.
Be VERRY CARFUL and do not fall on the roks at the look overs!

Chek be for you doodoo so you will not doodoo on the trale like I done by axadent (some times ther is leafs on the trale and they look like the woods).

“I started to do the northern half in Dec and then decided I wanted an easy going type of trip. If it's 120 miles then I might be interested in doing this 4 days if I got in shape for it. You'd want to do this in Spring or Winter, and I'm tied up this season. Maybe next I'll do this in a big, fast hike.”

I couldn't do that kind of mileage now, but if I jogged regularly for about 2 months I feel like I could do it on the Pinhoti.”

“Some months ago I stumbled upon a guy's journal of his backpack of the entire Pinhoti Trail. I don't recall that he mentioned having any problems finding water. It was a neat little journal that I read all the way through. I didn't bookmark the site, though.”

“I think you'll be fine in April. There are long dry stretches, but you won't need much then. The links should give specifics. A guy named Solo is the expert on it. Monday I'll pass along a link to a message board on the Pinhoti.”

“Thanks dayhiker. Looks like water can be found, but several days will involve packing it along. Sort of like a desert hike, I suppose.

I am getting a week of "comp" time in April seeing as how I have worked every day this month. I was hoping to hike this in 10 or 12 days so I only have to burn a week of vacation. I will know by mid February if it is a go or not.”

“chili, if you do this we'll have to meet up for a pre or post hike meal. The starting point is maybe 1 hr south of me and the finish is maybe 1:30 northeast of me.

I haven't read all of the profile listed in the link above but I suspect any water source listed as seasonal will be available in April.
