I thread my back outView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 25 of 25 messages posted.
OUCH!!!!!!!!! “.....digging post holes with a "one man" agguer yesterday. I don't know how this is going to effect my trip to "The Big Z" in a couple of weeks. I can hardly move. The lower part of my back hurts real bad. I'm hoping that this is only a strain. Is there any way I can tell if I need to go and see a doctor? Has anyone else had back problems and if so, how did it effect your backpacking? In any case, I gave me a great excuse to start a phuckin' phunny thread title and have it be bping related.....” 9:53:20 AM 10/21/03 “"Digging post holes with a one man auger?" Is that what you kids call it these days?” 9:54:51 AM 10/21/03 “Btw, take some Advil.” 9:55:39 AM 10/21/03 “LOL! I didn't even mean it that way. Good one, aero!” 9:55:57 AM 10/21/03 “My back gets strained really easily, so I always take my backbrace with my backpacking, just in case. The only doc I've ever been to for my back was my chiropractor, but I've never torn a muscle or anything like that. Rotate icepacks and moist heat on your back. If it's not feeling better in a day or so, hie thee to a physic.” 9:56:13 AM 10/21/03 call... “twinkle toes, pay for a trip for her to come down to where you are, and have her walk on your back. 98 -120 lbs is the perfect weight for a woman, who is willing to walk on your back...spiked high heels is an option (I for one, vote for the option). feel better man....oh BTW... Please report to the TT injured reserve thread.” 10:01:06 AM 10/21/03 “As far as prevention; I've been using an exercise ball to do abs work for awhile and I strain my back a lot less (I usually tweak something working in the yard on weekends). It strengthens the abs and obliques which helps backpacking too.” 10:01:33 AM 10/21/03 “I threw mine out two years ago shoveling wet heavy snow. I went to the doctor, but than again I couldn’t even walk. I had to crawl back into the house and wait for someone to get home to drive me. The doctor gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers (which seemed to do nothing) and a prescription for 800mg of Vitamin I. It took me about a week before I could really move around. And about one two more on top of that before I could lift anything without any pain. I’m sorry to say, but time is probable the best cure.” 10:04:12 AM 10/21/03 “oohhh, you're so exercise-savvy, Aero!” 10:04:14 AM 10/21/03 “If nothing else, this thread generated a phucking phuny euphemism. Honey… my one man auger is all warmed up…” 10:07:00 AM 10/21/03 “LMAO! it took me awhile to get that one.” 10:08:32 AM 10/21/03 “I will sent you some of the crap the doc has me on for my knees. You will feel better in 3 days. As for using a one-man auger, next time dig a shallow hole and place a stick of dynamite in it. No more back pain.” 10:12:04 AM 10/21/03 “It is at crucial junctions of one’s life when we must pause and ask, “What would Rush do?”. Carefully take two Oxycontin and crush them into a fine powder in a bowl or similar receptacle, being careful to not lose any of the loose powder. Carefully empty the bowl onto a mirror or similar slick smooth surface. Using a credit card chop the powder into equal lines and snort using your favorite method. Lick the mirror, bowl and edge of the credit card when done. Sit back and enjoy the total absence of pain! Sidebar: Don’t get this from your housekeeper! LOL! Try some Tiger Balm. Works wonders. If it keeps up go to the doc.” 10:20:34 AM 10/21/03 “My wife won't go for the 'dynamite'. Too kinky.” 10:21:16 AM 10/21/03 “"didn't even mean it that way"... suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, LOL I've thrown mine out a couple of times in the last three years. Once I was was down and out for about four days. When I got my latest pack, I made sure it properly transferred weight to the hips (i.e. it wasn't just a rucksack design, but still pretty lightweight). I also went with a slightly longer torso length. I've had no further problems, <knock on wood>!” 10:21:50 AM 10/21/03 “Dang. What those "one man" augers need is a... well... man. heheheeeee!” 10:22:17 AM 10/21/03 “Hey, how did the thread title changee???” 10:22:50 AM 10/21/03 “Looks like Somebody got edited, LOL” 10:23:48 AM 10/21/03 “I was just wondering the same.” 10:24:12 AM 10/21/03 “The Man! has repressed you again!” 10:25:23 AM 10/21/03 “Actually, by bax still smartin' from doing Ski's stairs. Pressure treated 2x12x12s. Not-so-textbook lifting techniques will get you every time...” 10:25:38 AM 10/21/03 “I worry about my back quite a bit because I do a lot of lifting and transferring of 100-140 lb. People from place to place. I’m not sure if I have a nice strong back because of the lifting or if I’m wearing my back by the lifting. I’ll just keeping kidding myself and say it is strong because of the lifting.” 10:27:26 AM 10/21/03 crunches... “and reverse torso lifts and side to side lifting with weights and lots of yoga...have strengthened my back...I use to really suffer, but the last 2 years have been REALLY good, even on the long excruciatingly difficult hikes, my back still feels great...but it took alot of effort to get it that way.” 10:32:29 AM 10/21/03 “Motrin and yoga is my recommendation. If you have anything stronger, take it. Go very slow and remember to breeth during the stretching. Very important Daniel san, always breeth.” 10:41:43 AM 10/21/03 “First, I must say "Sorry" to 'da Man! I was only trying to be phunny on this day, concidering.... Second - Thanks for all the helpful info. I like Stik suggestion, I'll float it by the wife and she what she sez... I think gojo hit it prefectly. I was bending at the waist and not sqwatting and lifting with my legs, but I saw no other way to complete my operation. This sucks and it doesn't seems to be getting any better. I hope I can make through the day at work (or at least say I did it on the job :) )” 10:55:46 AM 10/21/03
