Fall Creek Falls - a backpacking thread
Anybody have a good estimate of the time it takes to hike in or the distance to the north backcountry campsite on the lower loop? I am trying to decide what time to leave Birmingham and still be able to get to the campsite before dark. Any FYIs about the lower loop hike or park in general that we should know? Thanks...

I couldn't find your email on your website. Send me an email to the address listed on my profile. I need to mention something.

I've never been to Fall Creek Falls, but think it's around 3 1/2 hrs.

where are you parking? With the last TT hike I don't recall it being anywhere near that long to hike into Fall Creak Falls - around an hour or so IIRC - hike in on 200 from the rec area parking, cross Borden and then maybe a mile on 209 - only hard part was Borden - it was just after a lot of rain so it was running about 2-3 feet (as vs its normal of about 6 inches)

I once drove from Baltimore to Fall Creek Falls in about 8 hours.....running hard. Great place and memories. Enjoy!

The lower loop is pretty good but I gotta say I like the Upper loop better. That's wierd for me cause I prefer trails with plenty of elevation changes.
The walk to the campsite is flat so it won't take long to hike to it.
As far as Parking, You'll get your Backcountry permit at the Betty Dunn Nature Center. Then drive a couple of miles and park at the Rangers house. Your car is safe there.

That one is nice. It's got a water pump there (or at least the last time I was there it did). It's probably only abot 2 - 2 1/2 miles in.
