Yes, and before Westinghouse agreed to take over operations (1989?), it had to be put in writing (in triplicate, carved in stone and dipped in platinum) that they wouldn't be held responsible for any past, present or FUTURE environmental liability associated with the site.

I believe DuPont also received a 'get away scot-free card' from Uncle Sugar at that time (?).

This still doesn't make any kind of sense, Baume. If someone wears Gore-Tex, then they automatically grant DuPont absolution for all crimes foreign and domestic? LOL

Golly gee whiz, before this afternoon I didn't even know they were the ones who made it.

Two other questions...

Was it just a coincedence that hemp was outlawed about the same time Nylon was invented?

Does DupPont still manufacture gasoline with lead in it for export to the Third World?

dupont does not manufature goretex nor do they own any gasoline companies.

goretex was discovered by a dupont scientist while he was working with teflon. dupont decided they did not want to put money into goretex. the scientist left dupont (his name was gore i believe), and started his own business.

dupont got rid of conoco a few years back.

no, i don't think dupont is asking for your forgivenes nor should you carte-blanc grant it just because they make or invented something you use.

i have read some on the hemp issue, but am not overly familiar with it. hemp was outlawed before nylon was put to market if i am not mistaken. i am sure they probably were on the side of outlawing it because nylon was in the works.

So what's with all this talk of hypocrites? What was the point of that?

That was a nice puff piece from Delaware, BTW. It has the same cutting edge seen in the piece from PR Newswire, <G>. Corporate HQ is still up there, isn't it?

another thing, on the nuclear business. i certainly don't know what it was like growing up near the savannah river facility, so i can't really comment on that. i do know the reason the government asked dupont to build and operate this facility for them was due to their safety record and the responsibility they had shown over the last century in managing hazardous processes.

another note on the savannah river production facility. not only did they build it at personal request of harry truman, they operated it for a grand profit of nothing for the 40 years they were there. pretty surprising that big business would venture into such a hazardous endevour for nothing. they did it for the United States during a time of perceived need, that being the cold war. that is why uncle sam gave them the get away scot-free card.

yes, teir corporate HQ is still there. that is why i looked there first for the story. im pretty sure if you did a google on that like somebody on here did on pollution you could come up with 1252 hits.

teir = their

the talk of hypocrites is aimed at those that only try and bad mouth any organization, not just dupont, while they sit in their nice chairs (for example) that was proveded by these corporations.

Sorry, I can't get worked up into a patriotic fervor for DuPont. I just remember the atmospheric releases we found out about... MONTHS after the fact, time and again.

Any of you people who are using anything sold at Wal-mart can no longer piss and moan about illegal imigrants!
