"this is great...let all the hunters into the place, so that they can kill all the wildlife, so that it is safer for the pedestrians.... Other than the hunting applications, I think this is wonderful" StikMonster Now I will probably get the 3rd degree on this TT thread lashing on this, but why are hunters not allow to hunt the land we all share. Hunters have been hunting since the beginning of time and hikers have been hiking since the beginning of time also. I used to hunt a lot. I go hunting less now, but I still wander out in the woods once in awhile with my thunder stick. I mostly just to get outside and enjoy the woods. I really don't care if I get(kill) anything. The enjoyable part is being with the friends and family I hunt with. Kinda like how hikers bond too. I'm sure I will hear that "we as a society don't need to hunt for our food" excuse.... You could say the same for hiking we don't really need to hike we have cars and bikes and stuff, but we still do both of these activities, because it is what we love to do. I will be the first to admit there are some serious jackass hunters out there. I also know I have heard about some serious jackass hikers too. I love animals, In some cases there is a need for hunting..... I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on this. I would just like to hear why the hunters should scolded for hunting. Please don't whip me too hard...lol” 1:01:09 PM 10/23/03 “Because that evil hunter killed Bambi's mom, that's why...” 1:02:24 PM 10/23/03 “I have no problems with hunting or hunters.” 1:03:53 PM 10/23/03 “Aw crap! that right blood, screw you snafu, I hate hunters! :)” 1:04:56 PM 10/23/03 “.....or Boo Boo Bear >:O” 1:06:26 PM 10/23/03 “I always wanted to get a bumper sticker printed that said "BAMBI'S MOM WAS SHOT DURING DOE SEASON".” 1:06:29 PM 10/23/03 “my cousin vinny Imagine your a deer. You're prancing along, you get thirsty, you spot a little brook...you put your little deer lips to the cool clear water...BAM a fucckin bullet rips off part of your head, your brains are lying on the ground in little bloody pieces,” 1:10:16 PM 10/23/03 if you want to hunt, then hunt.. “with a knife or a spear. hunting with high power rifles and scopes is not hunting...its killing. and most hunters (and I mean that literally) break hunting regulations and hunt illeagally...I talk to a lot of rangers and they say that hunters are a real problem...if the rangers say that sort of stuff, then It must be true...at least here in Missouri and Arkansas...at least in Pa, hunting is not allowed on Sunday (or at least thats the way it was). and yes.,,,there is no need to hunt...go buy your food from the supermarket...and you can't see the backcounty from a car, some places you just have to walk (hike) to get to. hunting is something that no longer is needed...and it "hunting" was not sport, long ago...it was survival...now, hunting is a sport and a stupid one at that. If its necessary to thin herds down, then it should be controlled and the woods should be closed for the weekend or week, whatever...but hunting is a crime, it rapes the wilderness and is an assult by man on the world that God created.” 1:11:24 PM 10/23/03 Maple “ROTFLMAO>>> that was one of my favorites movies...haha” 1:11:49 PM 10/23/03 “multiple use land = more advocates = more land open for public recreation The biggest reason I oppose the North Maine Woods Park is because the woods we've ALL shared and enjoyed for many years will be closed to everyone but hikers.” 1:12:53 PM 10/23/03 Ah, hunting. “Deer hunting starts a week Saturday and I can't wait. Rabbit, hare, grouse, duck, Canada and snow goose hunting have been great. Christmas dinner, mmmmm! I had caribou meat loaf in 5 pepper sauce last night and caribou chasseur (deglased with red wine, beef stock, mushrooms and onions thickened with tomato paste), butternut squash and baked potatoes last Saturday with my girlfriend and one of my oldest buddies who had driven 6 hours for the rugby finals. Life is good with good people.” 1:16:10 PM 10/23/03 “Oh, bloody hell...” 1:18:21 PM 10/23/03 ...and another thing... “I swear that will be my last quote from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" today.” 1:19:29 PM 10/23/03 “...imagine you're a road sign. You're just standin' there with a post up yer arse. Along comes a half-lit hillbilly in a muddy truck. Blam, you're fulla holes!"” 1:19:39 PM 10/23/03 road kill “thye call that Dinner” 1:20:22 PM 10/23/03 “Stikmon's full of #&%!$, he doesn't have a clue about wildlife management. Your probably one of those that supported the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone too, which has now expanded to WY, MT, ID and who knows where else. Now we have a ton of wolves, very few coyotes, the calf to cow ratio (elk) is about 1/3 of what it used to be. We hardly ever see cow moose with their calves anymore because they can't keep the wolves from killing them. So, where has the reintroduction of wolves gotten us? There ought to be a license available to kill both wolves and grizzlies, IMHO. I know ranchers who refuse to use their grazing land in the mountains because the losses are too great, yet they continue to pay rental on those leases.” 1:21:36 PM 10/23/03 “LMAO @ Tom T!!” 1:29:13 PM 10/23/03 “I don't totally agree with the use of high powered rifles since the range is so far, BUT they do allow for a cleaner kill, that is, a one shot death so the animal doesn't suffer, or at least not as much. Currently hunting in Maine isn't allowed on Sunday, but there are proposed laws to allow hunting of small game on Sunday in certain unorganized territories. I don't agree with this as I feel it will open the door for other Sunday hunting. On the other hand, proponents of the bill say if we get rid of one "blue" law, e.g., shopping on Sunday or Sunday liquor sales, then why not all. I say put 'em all back in place. I do believe it makes the herd healthier to maintain certain numbers. We humans keep tearing up their habitat to build houses, malls, etc and drive the critters into smaller and smaller areas. Starvation or hunting? Controlled shoots are the cruellest things I've ever seen. There's nothing worse than a bunch of sharp shooters picking off a bunch of poor frightened deer that are trapped by netting and trying with all their might to get away. At least they have a decent chance in a hunt. I don't understand how the woods could be "closed" or why they should be. If you don't want to go out during hunting season, don't. I don't because I enjoy wild game and leave the woods to the hunters for one month of the year. rape the wilderness - do you live in a house stikmon? how did it get there? How many critters were displace and trees were cut down when it was built? did you rip up the ground beneath you for a foundation? why is that ok and hunting isn't?” 1:30:29 PM 10/23/03 And while I'm at it... “What makes people think that if they eat meat (and it is a choice they make) and 'killing' is bad, that it's the butcher that will go to Hell? It makes me sick to hear people excuse the supermarket for the death we must eat by saying that steers (castrated young bulls, BTW), pigs and calves kept in 1 metre pens and like chickens stuffed with antibiotics (and growth hormones in your country) were 'brought up' for slaughter, Did anyone ask them?. BTW, Jean Cocteau (there's a new movie about him just out) said that when we learn to change the frquencies of our hearing, we shall hear the plants scream. It's still death - even if you live on plancton and krill. The only sin, in my opinion, is waste and that includes plastic wrapping and styrofoam containers. And why can't I get Goddamned KIDNEYS in the butcher's section any more? Buying it in celowrap and pretending it didn't suffer in the truck and the chute just doesn't make it. Remember the maxim that the unreflective life is not worth living.” 1:31:20 PM 10/23/03 dang, bunny boiler >:O “I've never seen you have so much to say about non-backpacking.” 1:37:02 PM 10/23/03 “BTW, Stikmon, backpacking's not 'necessary' any more either. Let's all spend the reat of our lives watching the bloody telly. Also, I've seen a lot of Kleenex and worse garbage left by so-called outdoors people. What about nylon? Is it from a renewble resource like fur? I remember back in the sixties (where this whole thread is from) reminding anti hunters that the geese didn't survive the plucking for their fancy down jackets, and that the nylon was using up the planet's resources one hell of a lot more than I do.” 1:37:21 PM 10/23/03 “I agree with gremlin - vegetables must be killed in order for us to eat them. Just because they don't have eyes or blood or a scream that humans can identify with (or hear) doesn't mean those things aren't there. How do we know that when we're snapping beans, that "snap" isn't really a bean screaming? not so unrealistic to me... geez, gremlin I hope your butcher starts carrying kidneys for ya...” 1:38:00 PM 10/23/03 “Canuckster, the butcher will go to hell because he's been porkin' the lady customers.” 1:39:42 PM 10/23/03 rebuttle to TT “Think as yourself as a Cow :-) Your outside grazzing on some wonder Kentucky Blue Grass, a feast fit for a king. You have lived a long life. Your bull takes care of a couple times a year. Your children grow up and are beautiful. One day the man who has given you this wonderful life, says "come here into the barn" You stroll in thinking, "wow this is nice". The farmer leads you thru a maze, with the sides getting smaller and smaller, until it is closing in on you. Finally you get to the end and you head is in between a couple of boards. BLAAAAAMMMM Pneumatic stainless steel shaft is driven through your skull!!! Hamburger anyone? Why is a hunter any different the a Beef farmer? Just curious to hear the debate.” 1:39:49 PM 10/23/03 “I have not been hunting in the last couple of years, but I have committed to opening weekend in two weeks with some old friends.” 1:39:50 PM 10/23/03 “Haha TomT, we've had this discussion so many times on TT, I've got it memerized... =D” 1:40:27 PM 10/23/03 “"Canuckster, the butcher will go to hell because he's been porkin' the lady customers." Tom Terrific LOL....thats a good one....I will have to remember it...lol” 1:42:00 PM 10/23/03 “Sorry, everybody, but the kidney thing is driving me spare. How can I get my French Canadian squeeze to try steak and kidney pud after introducing her to haggis, bridies and meat pie (she calls it tourtière)? What makes me sad is the 'variety' meats are being sold for some tiny, useless bark box in some fat person's apartment. Humph.” 1:42:32 PM 10/23/03 “yeah snaf, except most cows don't get the "pleasure" of a bull, they get a long plastic tube in the barn... most males get an elastic around the balls or the pincher... (think of that next time you're eating steak, LOL) and the farmer drags the cow up on the meat market wagon by putting a ring through it's nose that five men can haul on and still the dang cows don't move... they hump each other regardless of gender and pea and poop on each other - man, gimme deer meat any day.” 1:45:28 PM 10/23/03 Yeeeeeeeah! “Tom Terrific's on a roll. Who was it that said, 'Cows think we own them because we love them, but pigs are under no such illusion.'? LOL.” 1:45:43 PM 10/23/03 Bunny “Yeah, and don't forget the Angery Cow Disease...lol I'm not a big Venison fan, but I love Venison Jerky....” 1:47:58 PM 10/23/03 “"rebuttle to TT" snafu29 Huh, what? All I did was make jokes, so back off buster!” 1:50:00 PM 10/23/03 “and damn good ones at that MarkThomas...I love that one about the road sign, LOL...” 1:53:29 PM 10/23/03 “Animals don't hunt us. We shouldn't hunt them.” 1:56:27 PM 10/23/03 “This barbaric blood sport should be condemned to the history books.” 2:01:13 PM 10/23/03 “Hunting is no more conservation than murder is a viable relief for world hunger.” 2:02:07 PM 10/23/03 “Wildlife management practices actually stimulate animal reproduction, ensuring that hunters always have an overpopulation excuse.” 2:03:16 PM 10/23/03 “Hunt fiddlers” 2:04:14 PM 10/23/03 Mass murderers: “ ”2:06:07 PM 10/23/03 “Stikmon just made my 'Official Moron' list...” 2:06:59 PM 10/23/03 “How fitting that you were made Keeper of the List.” 2:08:51 PM 10/23/03 “Flame on, knucklhead...” 2:12:56 PM 10/23/03 TT “Can we kiss and make up? Still love you man!!!” 2:20:46 PM 10/23/03 “Do you know where you can buy those?” 2:27:31 PM 10/23/03 “Uh, that's a trapping pic, Violin, and another matter. Also, up here some animals do hunt people, polar and black bears for example. I have no wish to hunt these animals because I don't want to eat them. Hunting is killing and the only sin is waste. Listen, everybody, If you don't like hunting, that's cool and I'll stay out of your face. If you don't eat meat, that's cool too. If you come to my place I'll prepare you a kick-ass veg dinner. Just stay off my a$$. What I do is both legal and of the highest ethical standard. Don't spew a stream of hypocritical bull$h!t at me, please.” 3:39:30 PM 10/23/03 “Don’t hand me that #&%!$! If you really cared about ethics, you would only eat animals that had died from natural causes!” 3:41:49 PM 10/23/03 Gremlin “You can order fresh kidneys online if they aren't available in your area. If your'e interested, I have a really good recipe for devilled lamb's kidneys.” 3:52:48 PM 10/23/03 Ya know... “Ya never see the animal rights folks hanging around outside a biker bar throwing red paint on the bikers' leathers as they walk out. Guess throwing paint on a 60 year old woman in a fur coat is a little less risky. :) Violin, you're getting a bit shrill. I don't think you're doing your cause much good.” 3:53:10 PM 10/23/03 “Kidneys are what backpacking newbies are for...” 3:53:29 PM 10/23/03 “i support ethical hunting, though too many hunters don't follow regs and have little ethics. i think hunting can be a great activity, if taught right. just me, but trapping doesn't seem right. if you're gonna kill something, you better use the meat. stikmon is entitled to his opinion, no need for some responses to be so childish.” 3:55:11 PM 10/23/03
